About Mulvaney's B&L
As an American restaurant, we focus on seasonal local products from our friends the farmers. Likewise, our modestly priced wine list emphasizes producers from the West. We are a small restaurant, if there is no availability here please call the restaurant to check.

Mulvaney's B&L Ratings and Reviews
We thoroughly enjoyed this six-course Birthday experience. Each course was a tasting event of it's own, timely spaced to allow our attention move to the wonderful ambiance of the restaurant; a packed house of cultured humans. This Foie Gras appetizer was a nice light smooth opener for the dinner. I'm not a big fan of duck liver. Yet the additional blend of pomegranates with toast set our start off nicely. We moved to the red lettuce salad with fresh sliced apples with vinaigrette. Garnish with goat cheese, pistachios; delictible combination! The sweet potato gnocchi held its own as the chanterelles battled the chard for dominance when doused in butter. A bit salty in the palate. The bourbon raspberry sorbet gave me a slight buzz on the break. We really enjoyed the double main dishes, Passmore Ranch Trout followed by pork chop. The trout was excellent and could have stood alone although the parsnip puree on the bed was a delightful addition. The pork chop was really tender, it's characteristic occasional dryness offset by sweet apple butter. I completed the meal with a nice glass of port with dark chocolate. It was like drinking candy!
Delicious, Exquisite food and Exceptional service!!
We made a reservation for four, last minute, for a Saturday night. We arrived a little early and also before our friends. The hostess told us that our table would be ready soon and to wait in the courtyard. We were surprised at first, since it was a little chilly already that night. But, we sat in the side courtyard by a lovely fire pit, with other patrons waiting, so everything was fine and cozy.
Before the rest of our party arrived, the hostess approached us again to let us know that our table was ready. However, she added that the “wine room” had become available and we could sit there, if we preferred. The wine room ended up being a quiet, private, storage room in the back with a table for four. It was a great score. We highly recommend it, if you prefer the privacy.
Our waitress was sweet and fun. The owner came in more than a couple of times to check in on us and make sure we were doing alright. The bartender also came in a couple of times too, and offered some banter and recommendations about the wine and spirits stored around us. Everyone working here we interacted with was amazingly fun and thoughtful.
We ordered some wine and appetizers. My partner had the rabbit tortellini and I had the rib eye. The rib eye was amazing, perfectly cooked medium rare (as recommended by the waitress). The rabbit was great. Everything was delicious.
We greatly recommend this place. We would try to come back here next time we are in town.
So glad we were able to make dinner here on our recent visit. Too many good things to try, luckily we had 4 of us so we could share a few things. Especially enjoyed the rabbit pate, persimmon salad, fresh pulled mozzarella and roasted tomato salad, and short ribs. Great wine list and phenomenal service. Will definitely go back!
This was an excellent experience. We were able to have a private room so it was quiet but fun. Walked through the kitchen to get there but the service was outstanding and the food was fresh, locally sourced and a great variety. The sea bass was really well done.
My husband and I celebrated our 36th anniversary here. The staff were notified in advance and everyone wished us a "Happy Anniversary". We let our server guide our food and wine pairings. It was an amazing meal. The pork chop was perfectly prepared and an extremely large serving (take the leftovers home). The Passmore Farms caviar was a treat. We were too full for dessert, but our server prepared two little bites of a white chocolate rice crispy treat drizzled in chocolate served on a plate that said "Happy Anniversary". The perfect ending for our evening.
I hesitated to go back because the selection of entrees is limited but that was a huge mistake. The food is exceptional and there is a large variety of appetizers and small plates that more than makes up for the limited selection... besides it quality over quantity, right? The foie gras was amazing, rich and tender. The swordfish was done perfectly, crispy on the outside but not overdone. We also tried the smoked duck which was very flavorful and tender. The wine selection is excellent with some very good values. We were very pleased with the service. It was attentive but not cloying. Will definitely go back soon.
Great food and dining experience. My wife thought the lamb was a bit "smoky" tasting like the chef put smoke product on it. My halibut was perfect...mouth watering and a bit of nice seared crunch. I thought the risotto was a too watery...a disappointment really...dessert was great...something with fruit and crust...maybe pears?, tomato appetizer was great....tasty and fresh. Beer selection was good but I wish there was more Sacramento area beers and NO beers from outside of Northern California...we have many great local beer brewers, no need to go far afield. The Saison I ordered was a treat and something I would not usually have ordered.
One of our "go-to" favorites anytime we're planning on celebrating a special occasion. IMHO, Mulvaney's is one of the handful of Sacramento area restaurants that can be picked up and placed in San Francisco and hold its own. Menu changes depending on the season and availability of ingredients but usually the red meat and fish dishes are just nailed. Service is always terrific and attentive. Really, just one of the top places to dine in the area.
One of the finest dining experiences I've had in Sacramento. Mulvaney's is always a great decision, the level of service, beverage menu, cuisine will exceed expectations. Reservations in advance is a must, expect a lively cozy atmosphere and listen for whatever they have on special. You will be in for a treat.
I have had much better meals at Mulvaneys, my favorite Sacramento restaurant. Everyone has an off night now and then, so it doesn't mean I won't go back. The corn soup was fantastic, but the yellowtail dish was greasy and too salty. It was very noisy too - I recommend patio seating if you don't want to shout.
