I have been there before, and the place was still as beautiful as I saw last time. The place is spacious, not too many people were there and most people dined there were sitting in the booths. So it's supposed to be a romantic place with nice music, however, I found the music was too loud and annoying, and it certainly didn't fit the atmosphere. I understand it's a Chinese restaurant, and the name of restaurant is named after a famous heroine in China history, but still they could have found more siutable Chinese folk music, and play it in a nice way. What a shame if they couldn't do better.
Overall, I like the place, and the service is good too.
There was too long a wait for the food to be served and too many people.
When I first read the review from others before booking this resturant, I was thinking there might be some misunderstanding about the rudeness since this should be a high class resturant. But the others review was ABSOLUTELY CORRECT about the RUDENESS. There is an older gentlemen (I beleive he is either the owner or manager) working there and he was IMPATIENT and RUDE when I inquired about my drink which I have ordered 30 MINUTES AGO when I came in. Also, other waiters are no better. There is one waiter who just disregard my inqury about my drink. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANY OF MY FRIENDS. Also, I saw the same old gentlemen turn away customers WITH AN UNPROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE. GOOD LUCK WITH THE BUSINESS
Overall a good dining experience at Mulan. Upon arrival at the time of the reservation (7:45 pm) we were told that there would be a slight delay in seating my party of two. With no seating area to accomodate us while waiting for an available table (approx. 20 mins.) we stood. The atmosphere was elegant and quite reserved. Originally described as a business casual affair, we noticied a number of guests with jeans, sneakers and work clothing, however this did not detract from the sophisticated ambience. Our waiter began taking our order, only to inform us that a particular item on their Valentine menu was no longer available, and no substitutions. Main course was served before soup, a litle disorganized but a good dining experience.
The food is soso, not worth the price and can't match what the restaurant claimed and the location at queens crossing. Gernerally speaking, it's not good enough.
Attentive service and quality food . Hard to find a chinese restaurant in Flushing area where you can really take your time to enjoy the meal and the time with friends.
food is surprisingly good and high end that what we expected except for the seafood noodles. it was dry and too al dente. service though was very impressive. our server was attentive and friendly. the ambiance is also above
For a Chinese restaurant, the service and ambience and noise level was excellent...on an "american" scale, it would rate "very good". The wait staff was very helpful and nice, the dishes were creative...beautiful decor.
Outstanding Restaurant, Food was great, Design and Setting was at the highest level. Excellent table service, top Manhattan type ambiance with out the high prices and Queens County location. This is a keeper.
This is an excellent restaurant. It is the first of its kind that I have found in Flushing. The sizzling beef, Wu-sbi Spare ribs, lily scallops, foie gras, rock shrimp, tiny buns, har kau were all top notch. The meats were prepared to the perfect temperature and the sauces were flavorful without being overbearing. Skip the miso salmon and the chilean sea bass was just ok. The lava cake and banana cake were both scrumptious. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Great service, very attentive. Complimentary non-alcoholic drinks, which were good nonetheless. I would definitely go back. The lunch pre fixe menu has good variety..was not the best food I've ever tasted, but still satisfying. Great decor, clean, simple.
The atmosphere of this restaurant is very nice. The food is good. I especially like the oxtail. They have a nice twist on traditional chinese cuisine.
My fiance and I went there for a date. The place was very chic and upscale and totally out of place for Flushing. The food, while probably not as authentic as typical Chinatown restaurants (restaurant doesn't aspire to be), was delicious nonetheless. Service started out ridiculous good, but by the end of th night dwindled and couldn't even find who would bring us the bill. In their defense, they probably didn't know we were done as we had overordered. All in all though, I would definitely recommend giving this place a try.
food not good at all.
The restaurant is well decorated however the service was terrible. Food was fair.
I don't usually travel to Flushing for dining but this restaurant was recommended to me. Overall, the meal was pleasant and I thought the restaurant was pretty neat and clean compared to other places in that area.
Finally!!!! It's a restaurant I would repeatedly visit in Flushing, happily!! I think it's a very very good restaurant for Chinese cuisines. It's not oily or full of msg like a lot of other Chinese restaurants are in Flushing. I'm in full support of this restaurant. Soups are made from real stock/broth. Cuisines are not perfect and needs work occasionally, but generally very good!! The service definitely needs a bit work. Some of the waiters/waitresses are not trained very well, but some are great. So it all depends on who you get.
Food and decor was quite good, unfortunately they were short staffed on a sat nite - therefore service was spotty. Wait time in between course was extremely long - over 2-1/2 hours for dinner. Would recommend to friends who would enjoy good a leisurely dinning experience.
Food wasn't worth the price.
Great modern feel and outstanding ambiance! Water feature in the middle of the room drown out all of the loud chinese-speaking guests. Very nice service and excellent signature cocktails. Food wassn't the best chinese that I've had, but certainly fair. I would definately go just for the atmosphere.
Overall, I had a good time at the restaurant. The service is still going through a bit of growing pain. However, it is one of the better/best Chinese restaurant in Flushing Queens. It is not for foodies but it is good enough to bring your parents for a special occasion without feeling cheap!
Great place with excellent service
My dining experience was great at Mulan. From ambience to food, this place is quite a departure from the typical restaurants you will find in the Flushing area. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. They were proactive in keeping our glasses full and were prompt to clean up after each dish. The food was delicious and as mentioned before, very different from what is typically offered in the Flushing area. The food had an Asian fusion feel, with 5-star presentation. The ambience and décor had a trendy New York City feel that made me forget that I was in Queens. Overall, I enjoyed dining at Mulan and was very impressed.
If they can open up just a section for family with children 14 and under that would be great... we had to give space to baby strollers in the middle of dinner and it was a bit distracting...
