In Pittsburgh, the Muddy Waters Oyster Bar works via the quote by Andrew Carnegie that the first man gets the oyster, the second man gets the shell. All of the food at Muddy Waters Oyster Bar is fresh and made to order with an adept kitchen staff working to shuck, crack and peel some of the finest shell fish and seafood around.
A mix of classic New England style seafood and Cajun cuisine dot the menu with variety. Guests to Muddy Waters Oyster Bar will find fried green tomatoes and boudin sausage on the menu next to Rockefeller oysters and Clyde Mays Caesar salad. A selection of sandwiches and poboys and a variety of large plates round out the menu.
Wonderful bourbon cocktails, great music and fabulous staff!
Had an amazing meal - salmon with fall hash and butternut squash was unbelievable. Would go back every week for the same meal. It was a little pricy but worth it.
A simply divine brunch. What more is there to say?
Drinks are amazing !!! Creative and different . Great location . Love the music
Great oysters...fried chicken was outstanding....nice place for casual dining...will return!
Oh. My. God. I love this place. Nothing can beat the price of the Happy Hour and the food is simply outstanding!!!! The oysters are fresh, and not at all sandy, the corn bread and the hush puppies are the best cures for a carb craving, and the cocktails are worth checking out too! It is already my go-to place when I want some lovely oysters and some down-to-earth Cajun cuisine!
Muddy's is great! I cannot recommend it enough. Since moving to PIttsburgh from New York, we have been in search of some good places to go to eat and enjoy a regular date night. This is the place we know we will be returning to again and again- the food is outstanding, the menu changes so you never get tired of it, the cocktails are amazing and service is friendly. Even if oysters is not your thing, head out for an amazing fried chicken dish, or a gumbo, or just have fried green tomatoes and corn bread. You will not be disappointed.
Delicious food, great service.
I had an excellent birthday experience at Muddy Waters Oyster Bar! The service was incredible, the food blew me away, and they have great drinks.
Love the people and great food!
Great service and amazing food
Go for raw oysters. We went in with high expectations. We love southern comfort food but this is more Cajun. The atmosphere has a nice vibe. Friends who are raw oyster eaters raved about it. The three in our party are not raw oyster eaters. Many of items on menu are fried which I secretly love. But what we ordered was over done fried and quite dried out. Lobster meat in the lobster roll was extremely salty and inedible. We had asked for plain butter on the side rather than garlic butter. Loved the pierogies!
Absolutely incredible food, specifically the salmon-- hands-down the best salmon dish I've ever had! Everything from the pierogis to the lobster roll, the dishes were amazing!
The menu is outstanding, too many delicious dishes to try! And drinks too!
Great food and service!!! Cocktails were amazing!! Had a featured dress called apple cider sidecar! It was fabulous!
One of our best dining experiences in Pittsburgh...Ever!!! Every item we ordered was delicious...our shrimp "beignets" were incredible and our waiter very attentive!
Oysters very fresh. Great fried green tomatoes and beignets
Much needed addition to Pittsburgh as a creole/cajun restaurant (where as before the only option was NOLA). This isn't just oysters- the rest of the food is tasty too.
Hints - try to get to the neighborhood at least 15 min early if you are meeting a group- you will need that time to drive around and find parking. I know the team is working on this, but until it can be resolved with the city, it can be tough to find a spot.
The island creek oysters were the reason for our visit to Muddy Waters Oyster Bar and they were amazing. We had another round of those wonderful flavorful delights since the first order were so good . We then moved onto the sandwich part of the extensive menu and Shared the lobster roll. Most delicious I ever had...along with cornbread. I give Muddy Waters an A+ on food, service, and creativity. Parking was a challenge but once inside the restaurant, the feeling of being on vacation removed the stress of parking. ...an perfect old fashion really was the stress breaker. I will definitely be making a return trip soon!!
It is a decent oyster bar with mediocre service.
Food is fabulous and the service terrific. Live the Oysters happy hour-- great idea.
Excellent food. The oysters were outstanding!
Amazing food and ambience
Though our dinning experience was good, I WOULD NOT recommend this restaurant to others. Mainly because of the price and small portions of food. The oysters are priced OUT OF THIS WORLD though they were tasty. I will not be revisiting and will continue to go to Rollings in the Strip for my oysters and seafood because you get your money's worth there.
Great food and experience overall- a little pricey to pay $7 for a small cup of gumbo that was not a seafood gumbo - salad was just so so and pricey but overall we enjoyed our food. Expected the oysters to be pricey - stick with the raw over the oysters Rockefeller. They had some kind of smoke issue when we went where it all filled up with smoke but they apologized. Otherwise it was a great dining experience and we will go back for more of the raw bar.
We were very pleased with our food and drinks, but our server was very rude and not attentive. We waited quite a while to order drinks and then had to request to order food because she didn't come back. Then, she completely missed an order and never checked on us. Another server stepped in and was stellar, not blinking an eye when he noticed only 3/4 entrees arrived. Great guy! All in all, we'd definitely go back for the food and drinks.
Loud environment, but the food was excellent. We started with the Chef's Pick East Coast Oyster sampler. Very Yummy. Definitely recommend trying the charcuterie.
Our evening at Muddy Waters was wonderful. We started with the oyster selection which were all delicious. Since it was Sunday, we got the crawfish boil which was a lot of fun to try to eat, but delicious and spicy. Also got the shrimp cocktail and the hushpuppies which were both good and would be ordered again. Cocktail was also wonderful.
The food is delicious, $3-4 per oyster is certainly pricy. They would go a long way having a value oyster or oyster specials during happy hour.
We went there for the happy hour oysters. We were confused at first because we thought it was any oyster on the menu. Our server informed us that the $1 or $2 oysters were only for selected items. Anyway, the oysters were really fresh and we enjoyed them. Our server was very accommodating and helped us select wine pairings. It can get a bit pricey, but the place was great and we enjoyed the food.
I had dinner at Muddy Waters with a group of friends. All in all, it was a good experience, but there were definitely some rough edges. I arrived early for the reservation and tried to get a drink at the bar and, despite the fact that it was not particularly busy, I was unable to procure a drink prior to being seated at our table roughly 10 minutes later.
When we were seated, again, our waiter did not offer us beverages for quite some time. To be fair, some of our party were late, so he may not have wanted to take a food order, but he could at least have offered us a cocktail.
After this initially unsatisfying introduction, the rest of the evening was quite nice. We had a variety of appetizers, of which the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese and oysters rockafeller were quite nice. I had the selection of west coast oysters, which, while not cheap, were delightful. My companions each got either the lobster roll or the shrimp po boy, both of which got rave reviews.
Their New Orleans inspired cocktails and beer selection were delicious and refreshing for a hot day once we were allowed to order off the menu.
Food is way overpriced and way to salty. With overpriced New Orleans bar food you'd think they would have at least beer on tap.... only cans. Will not go back there again. Just way to many places around here that offer much better food at a much better value.
Last time had the Texas red drumfish (or something like that) - it was terrific.
The oysters they serve are pretty good, but honestly I've had more fun - had more interesting dining experiences - at other restaurants.
Here, if you order the chef's tasting menu, you get 12 oysters and the server sort of says what each one is. Have been here 3 times and they don't really help you learn about what you're eating or pair the oysters with anything other than mignonette or cocktail sauce.
The food is good, but if your looking for a really outstanding experience, this isn't it.
The first time I was there are food was great. Service has always been good. But the last couple times we have been there the food has not been as good. Oysters are always great though.
I liked this place, good atmosphere, good service, and descent food. I'm a little biased though because I lived in New Orleans for 4 years and ate at some incredible restaurants, and got the chance to experience Cajun food at its very best. The food was pretty authentic Cajun style, but it obviously was not as good as it was in New Orleans. It was Very good though for Pittsburgh, and I would recommend this place to anyone looking to try some Cajun style food. It was much better than Nola on the square for Cajun style food. I will definitely go back. Cocktails were interesting too, Overall it was a great time!
Loved the food....super drinks...very good and fun bartenders.....great music, just want more..really wonderful edition to Pittsburgh scene.
Get the cornbread and the lobster roll You won't regret it!
OK, I have to say that I was introduced to fried green tomatoes in Greenwood, Mississippi, so I guess I couldn't expect what I had there. The coating was thick, and they were extremely salty. The creamed collards seemed quite salty too. The James River oysters were wonderful, and paired with sparkling wine, OMG.
Oysters, oysters, oysters - YUM! We love Muddy Waters.
