Muddy Rudder Yarmouth Ratings and Reviews
Our dinner was so fun and tasty. We love the Muddy Rudder for a special dining experience. Service was too slow [told due to holiday parties]. Did not feel like that was a good excuse and nothing was offered to compensate us for the 2.5 hour time at the table. Would still return but would inquire if the kitchen was struggling to keep up.
We were a bit disappointed with this visit. The service was extremely slow. We waited at least 15 minutes before someone came to take our drink order and then waited over 30 minutes for our food order. I had Fish and Chips and it was mediocre at best. the fish and fries were luke-warm. My friends seafood scampi was pretty tasteless and very watery. The pork loin dish my wife and other friend had were very good. We've eaten here many times and this was probably an anomaly, so we will return in the future.
Service was terrible. We sat at our table for at least 10 minutes before the server arrived and then waited nearly 45 minutes for our food. My food (sea bass in miso broth) was good but my husband’s seafood platter was cold. Then it took at least another 10-15 minutes for the server to come by to pick up our payment. We had a groupon but with a charge for every side dish, it’s expensive and not worth it.
We had great seats overlooking the water. Our waitress was efficient and friendly. Three of us had the fried scallops which are always our favorite. They have a light, tasty batter and certainly are filling. The other person in our party had the stuffed haddock. He has that quite often when we go out. He said it is the best he has ever had-anywhere.
I almost forgot; we can never pass up the rudder chips with shrimp. Tasty and a wonderfully large serving. Great evening.
Would definitely go back for a second try. I was there on a Sunday so perhaps the regular chef was off. Hostess was pleasant and we got seated pretty quickly although about 12 minutes later than our reservation (not required but we made one so we shouldn't have to wait.). Lots of tables were open but I guess they were not assigned wait staff.
Waitress was a little slow in service and lacking in ongoing follow-up. Had to keep asking for water refills, finally asked how food was about half way thru the meal.
Mussel appetizer was excellent but the large serving only can with two slices of bread.
Flank steak special was tough, more fat than normal and disappointing. Lobster tail add on was presented very well but cool even though overcooked so it was tough and chewy.
Seafood deep fry combo was excellent.
Table bread was excellent.
A friend and I meet here every year, and this time, while the food is always good, it was GREAT! I had the Chicken Pasta - Beer battered chicken, spinach, crumbled bacon, tomatoes, Parmesan cream and cavatappi. My friend had the Ravioli - Ricotta and spinach stuffed, grilled artichokes, and oven-roasted tomatoes in a basil butter sauce.
We looked at each other when we had the first bite and were amazed at how great both dishes were. We each had a dessert, and that plus our great waitress made us both say - 'We've GOT to do this more often!'
Our waitress had an "I don't care" attitude. Tuesday evening family dinner. Restaurant was not full, bar was almost empty , not many patrons. Piano music was lovely. Glad we had reservations though. We "waited" for everything, water, food, refills, had to ask for dessert menu. Had to ask for check. All the meals were delicious, but the most expensive meal was also the smallest portion (seared scallops). We are local to the area.
The only good part of this experience was the piano player & great waiter we had at the high top in the bar area. personable and responsive despite the many things he was juggling which appeared to be bartending, bar backing and waiting tables. We had a reservation and though there were plenty of tables around the windows and in the main dining room we were led to a table in the remote off shoot dining room that was void of what ambiance existed. We politely asked to wait for a different table noticing there were quite a few empty tables and the host rudely informed us "well....it will be awhile". When we noticed the high tops available in the bar area, we asked to sit there and proceeded with our evening. The high top gave us a perfect view of what was happening. It became all too clear that the focus and preferential seating was reserved for the regulars because the host obviously knew those he was seating. This restaurant needs to find a way to balance that given the fact that Freeport is a destination area. Give the host a lesson in courtesy if he is going to run the entrance. He seemed put out that we had found an alternative to his rebuff. If you are visiting from out of town, don't bother.
We enjoyed going to the Muddy Rudder overall, however, there were a couple issues. I ordered the sea bass, which I had heard was one of the best fish to eat. It didn't look like pictures I have seen of sea bass dishes. It appeared to be thinly filleted, possibly taking away from the flavor. It almost appeared as if it was actually tilapia. To me, it definitely wasn't worth the price. My wife totally enjoyed the fried clams, stating they were the best she had ever had. Service was slow. The waitress was very good, but appeared to be overloaded with customers. It was long periods of time for our orders to be delivered to the table. We realize it was a busy night, but 20 minutes to get a drink order is a little long. Irregardless, we will visit again sometime, just maybe not during the summer or a Saturday night. Thank you
It was a rainy day and we were looking for a place to go. This was OUTSTANDING! The atmosphere was great, patio would have been nice, but alas, the rain! The food was amazing and the wait staff were friendly and very helpful. Great place for a meal or special occasion. parking can be a challenge, especially in rainy weather
The Muddy Rudder in Yarmouth was just the right restaurant to take our family who was visiting from out of town. Great food with a variety of choices for everyone, great atmosphere and we really enjoyed the piano music. We will definitely be a regular guest of the Muddy Rudder and brings family and friends as well.
We have eaten at The Muddy Rudder several times, but have to say that this time it was a poor experience. The restaurant doesn't have enough servers so we waited for everything, drinks. Food more water, etc. Our server had 9 tables. Too much for any one person to handle. Not her fault, but not a nice dining experience
We had an early evening reservation, 6:00 pm and were seated immediately upon arrival. We sat outside on the deck because the weather was beautiful and because inside was a bit loud due to how busy they were. Service was a bit slow but we were in no rush so it was fine. The food was terrific, tasty, nice presentation and generous. I have been here several times before and will be back!!
We arrived at your restaurant a little before 7 pm, as our reservation was for then, we had requested to sit outside and the table that we dined at was empty when we got there. The hostess directed us over to the bar area and said she would be right with us. No one came to ask us if we wanted a drink, my husband finally went over to the bar and was told just a minute as the bartender went to deliver food to a table. Several people arrived after us and were taken to their tables, I would guess about 15 were seated before us, then the hostess came to get us and seat us at the table that was empty the whole time it was then 720. We got a menu , ordered a drink and a bottle of wine and was never asked again til 815, how things were. We were never asked if we would like another drink, or even given a glass of water. The meal finally arrived around 845, mine was warm at best , my husbands was better. We ate our meal, served our own wine and went back to our hotel,we had gone to Freeport especially to go to your restaurant. I asked the server if it was really busy, she said she had been called in and that she usually works the day shift a couple of days a week.. Our experience was far from good , the best part was the appetizers and the table outside, the wine was even flat. I had heard this was a lovely place to eat, to bad I did not get that experience.
I hadn't been to this restaurant for years. Sadly, it was pretty disappointing. There were 6 people in our party. I had picked the restaurant mainly for convenience. It took at least 15 minutes for our waitress to even approach our table. The food was mediocre and pretty cold. Sorry, but they need some improvements for sure!
We were seated immediately and server was quick with taking order but slow on follow up. Food did not appear to be made fresh. My wife's french onion soup was so hot it had to have been microwaved and my lobster bisque was just barely warm although had good flavor. Our entrees were ok portion wise but again not hot. My fried clams had definitely been sitting for a while. With drinks and placing an appetizer order prior to ordering our meal they had us in and out in 30 minutes. This was not a great experience. Too many options in the area to make a return.
We were staying down the road on a road trip from Canada to Pennsylvania. We had a most pleasant dinner there. Our table was in the "back room" where we could enjoy the lovely pianist at the grand piano (but softly).
Our meal was Very good, but we want to send a special thank you to the bartender who mixed our Manhattans to perfection: straight up -- stirred, not shaken --
Enjoyed our meal ar Muddy Rudder. Good food, good service. Pleasantly pleased with the improved atmosphere since I last dined there maybe 5 years ago. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant and look forward to doing there again in the near future
