Chef Susan Feniger owns and operates the Mud Hen Tavern in Los Angeles, California. The casual dining atmosphere features wooden interior accents and simple, dim lighting. Dine in the indoor area or enjoy a meal and cocktails on the outdoor patio by one of the fire pits. The service at the Mud Hen Tavern is top notch and often the chef can be found checking on her customers.
The menu at the Mud Hen Tavern features unique dishes as well as some traditional favorites. Appetizers include such favorites as deviled eggs with sriracha mayonnaise and the signature Kaya Toast. The AAA salad, tavern burger and pumpkin ravioli are all popular dinner options. Pair an appetizer with the limitless cocktail options during happy hour.
I will miss Mud Hen Tavern. The food was wonderful, and had the feel of a nice neighborhood place.
SOOOOO SAD they are closing. I have enjoyed this restaurant since its beginning days of Street. Susan F is such a creative and talented chef.
We went to Mud Hen Tavern to have another final experience before they close. We had been to Street before Mud Hen Tavern and celebrated the Jewish holidays these past years.
We await the next culinary adventure!
It was great, but their closing for good..
October 11th is their last day.
favorite restaurant in los angeles best food ever my husband and I could eat here every night
Going out of biz oct 11 '16 :-(
The food was great, however, although we had a lovely waitress, our service was extremely slow. The restaurants is not that big and it wasn't overly busy, so a quick acknowledgement that the service was slow would have been a nice touch. If it wasn't closing, I would probably return for special occasions (e.g., brunch, dinner, etc.)
Super sad this is going away. One of my favorites. We will miss trivia nights and brunch!
Our salad, main course arrived together within minutes of sitting down. Wine arrived much later. We were in and out of the restaurant in 30min. Not a very relaxing dinner.
Also, very noisy.
Had a really great time at brunch! We didn't see our waiter very often and waited a long time between refills, but overall had a great time. The food is so delicious!
Always one of my favorites in LA-eclectic small eats with monumental taste.
The owner came around to every table to say hello and make recommendations. She made us feel especially welcome, as did the whole staff. Despite a lot of sound, we still had no trouble hearing each other. The atmosphere is intimate and casual at the same time -- a great combo!
great service and yummy food. we shared about 4 different dishes and loved them all
The food was very salty. There were a number of light bulbs out on their carnival light strings that seemed a little weird.
We love everything about mud hen, fabulous food and service it's our go to restaurant
I don't normally complain on forums like this, but my experience needs to be noted. I was meeting two friends and had made a reservation for 3 at 8PM. I arrived a few minutes early to check in and informed the hostess that I'd be at the bar until my reservation time, and inquired if we'd have to wait until the entire party was seated and was told "NO." A few minutes after 8, I was still waiting on my friends to arrive and went to the hostess station and asked about my reservation since I wanted to sit and wait for them. No tables were available yet so I returned to the bar. One of my friends showed up a few minutes later (now pushing 8:20) and we were taken to a table that was set for 6, which they tried to break off into a 4 top that would ultimately seat 5 and a 2 top for me and my two friends (I'm the smallest at 6'0, 190 lbs). That was flatly rejected. We were then told no other tables were available, so I kindly said we'd loiter until my third friend arrived. He made it in around 8:30 and still no tables were available. We were ushered to a two top by the bar and told to hang out until a table came up. Hardly even an apology to this point mind you. Why did I bother making a reservation again? Finally at 8:45 we were sent to the back table and seated somewhat rudely (I guess my standing around and glaring didn't sit well with the hostess) and proceeded to wait 15 additional minutes for a server to greet us and take our initial drink order. We actually contemplating leaving but stuck it out and were finally greeted by our server who did her best to quell the situation but the damage had been done. Drinks came out incredibly slowly all night (we were drinking beer!), we ordered an appetizer and then dinner a few minutes later and everything came out within 90 seconds of each other (one of my huge pet peeves) and the food was good, not great. She did bring us a free appetizer but it was a very disappointing evening. Not sure if I'll be back, sadly.
We had a very enjoyable evening thanks to the excellent service. The fish and chips were outstanding. Also had the tuna and heirloom tomatoes and burrata. Both good but could have been better--too heavy hand with the dressing.
I've enjoyed every visit. One small nit-pik; choosing the pretty patio to avoid the noise of the bar area only to discover the sound level of the music just high enough to shatter the otherwise tranquil outdoor setting, and which intrudes into quiet conversation between dining companions.
Ambiance was warm and welcoming. The service was great and the food was absolutely DELICIOUS.
Food is fantastic!
