Mucca Osteria Ratings and Reviews
Unparalleled in Portland and confident in many other cities as well. The service is fantastic not too much ,not too little. The Tortelli and Pappardelle are off the scale, Spinach Salad and Radicchio Salad are also tremendous along with excellent bread. We sit at the Chefs bar #15 and #16 and watch the food preparation and usually drink a little more than we should, it makes for a great night. I am a great Sicilian cook, they are better.
Have been many times and always considered it a treat to eat here. Disappointed in selection of menu items. They just didn’t appeal to me or my husband. Portions were smaller than I remember. Not sure I hold this place in such high regard as I used to considering there are so many great places to eat in Portland
We both ordered two of the pasta dishes. They were quite excellent. However the spinach salad I asked to be lightly dressed was not. Apparently not the fault of the waiter who reiterated that my husband did not want his salad lightly dressed. Well both of them were quite overdressed. A disappointment . Don’t come here for fish since the selections are quite limited.
First time here, and we were so pleased. Location and atmosphere are a little rough, but the food and service make up for any shortcomings in ambiance. Service is really, really great, like a well-oiled machine. Friendly, very helpful and attentive staff, but not so much that they're making you nervous. Bar service and wine steward are top-notch. Menu is what I like to see--not so many dishes that you get overloaded and confused and wonder how the kitchen can pull it off. These folks make their own bread and pasta, both of which were excellent. We were fortunate to enjoy a pasta with fresh truffles, and it was divine. The steelhead trout special was very good. I thought my duck breast was a little salty, and I would have preferred it a little rarer (but I didn't think to ask.) Dessert was a chocolate torte and pistachio gelato, both lovely as was the coffee. Wine selections are numerous, so we relied on Carter's guidance, and he helped us to a wonderful bottle. I notice ALL of the tables were enjoying wine with dinner, which I found fun as this is a cozy, warm, authentic place to dine. Our occasion was a birthday celebration for husband.
I've heard this restaurant is one of the better Italian places to nosh.
Walking up to place it has that small intimate bistro look..First, the food is outstanding. I know... that's a high statement to profess for a restaurant. Also, it could have been a good night for them too. I really love the appearance in how the food looked, but the flavors were noticeable.
The service was spot on, even when there was a minor error with my dessert. This restaurant has a small wait staff, only two servers and a bus person. So all of them share the load with request and clearing up the tables. When I ordered my dessert, one of the other server forgot. So when my check arrived, I asked about my dessert. They soon realized the error. The server who took my dessert order came over to my table with genuine regret with what happened. She told me how she dropped the ball, and apologize for a whole 1 minute. What I was impressed was how the staff handled my issue, gave me a comp on my dessert. And still apologize again, they were concerned I waited for sometime for an order that didn't come. I appreciate the act in kindness towards me, not acting out for my benefit as a customer.
Even though, the dessert error happened. I'm still coming back. Amazing food, amazing service.
I really couldn't complain at all over this experience (or with anything at all). I brought my sister here for a secret Santa gift, and we were impressed all the way. From the various drink pairings, super homey feel, amazing service, and the delicious food, we were satisfied to the fullest! Not to mention, super delicious complimentary bread, with the most delicious olive oil I've ever had! I will say that the second floor rattled every time the max passed by, but I felt that it made the experience more exhilarating! Loved it!
My wife and I went here for New Year’s Eve. Of course, the restaurant was extremely busy. That said, it didn’t affect the quality of the food, beverage, or service. The entire staff and management team were committed to meet the customers every need. Hats off. Outstanding.
My wife and I went here for our five year anniversary. Had a later reservation and called and said we were early if there's any chance of getting in. They said of course and got us a table in a busy spot which we do not mind at all. We like to watch the kitchen action. They took our coats and sat us down. The ambience was amazing. It was very exciting and elegant. The cocktails came and they were fantastic. The food was amazing and the chefs blew away our expectation. They ran a little late on the duck I ordered (which is a must). They gave us some prosciutto with fresh mozzarella on the house. That was extremely thoughtful and really made us feel like they were taking care of us. They food came shortly after that and wow! Presentation and flavor. It was hands-down the best experience I've ever had in my life. It was nothing but smiles at our table. Could of been the drinks too. Thank you to all the staff making my five year anniversary with my beautiful wife experience that will forever stay in our memories.
We quickly decided in the tasting menu ($75 for 6 courses) because everything on the menu sounded delicious. I loved every bite. It would have been the perfect portion if I hadn't eaten several pieces of their yummy bread. I ended up a little stuffed because the food was too good to leave on the plate. The restaurant is a little crowded and has an open kitchen, but it isn't too loud to have a conversation. I will definitely be back.
We had the tasting menu and man we're we stuffed! The oxtail was amazing, but honestly, the portion sizes on the tasting menu were so large, I had a hard time really enjoying myself after course 3.
We'll definitely be back when we're in town. It's a pricy meal, but the serving sizes are rather generous and the wine selection is wonderful (not to mention our server had a deep knowledge of their wine list).
Fabulous from beginning to end. Waiter Nicholas who has been with Mucca 3 1/2 years was passionate and deeply knowledgeable about the wines, enthusiastic and gently encouraging on menu choices and flattering to our group. Food was beautifully presented, creatively prepared and brilliantly sauced and balanced. Wine list is 100 % Italian and comprehensive. Portland you are so lucky!! Do yourself a favor and go!
Excellent food, wonderful presentation. A slightly limited menu, but what was offered was interesting, prepared perfectly, and appropriate for the style of the restaurant. The service was attentive without being intrusive. They handled our anniversary with great aplomb and offered a very nice complimentary dessert. Would highly recommend this place -- come an expect a great meal, and take the time to enjoy it.
I learned that Mucca Osteria has been in business, in the same Portland location, for well over 6 years. Since I consider myself a "foodie" (fine diner), I'm amazed that I had not heard of it until recently. It came highly recommended ...and, now that I've dined there, I understand why. The service was impeccable from the moment we entered the door. My partner and I shared a salad and a scallop appetizer: both wonderfully presented and tasty. Her fish and my rabbit ragu pasta dish were fabulous as well. Somehow, we managed to share a scrumptious, and beautiful, semifredo., served on a slab of black slate! All that's left to say is: WOW - we'll be back and tell our friends to try Mucca.
Four of us had a STELLAR dinner at Mucca Osteria last night. The service was attentive and charming. We all enjoyed every bite of our dinner. From salad to the main course, to dessert....everything was excellent. I highly recommend this beautiful restaurant.
Absolutely amazing experience, every last part of it. Great attentive wait staff, who know their wine, recommendation was spot on for our meal. The meal was fantastic every single course was top notch. The chef wrote Happy Birthday on the dessert plate of our birthday girl and they staff all took a moment to wish her happy birthday. We will be returning!
Everything was absolutely perfect. We requested a quiet table and had a wonderful spot upstairs. Service was great and our server very helpful. He suggested a red wine for our meal that we all loved, and it was one of the least expensive on the extensive wine list. Two of us had the fish special of the day; black cod with vegetables and an interesting, delicious sauce. Great option for low carb eaters. The pasta with wild boar ragu was so flavorful and the pasta with shrimp, calamari and shavings of mullet roe had the most wonderful sauce. The bread basket and olive oil could make a meal. As it was our 40th anniversary we were given a complimentary panna cotta (just superb) and our table also ordered tiramisu. It was good but a tad dry. Coffee and cappuccino were delicious.
