MRKT Ratings and Reviews
I have to say that the food was exceptional! Fantastic flavor profiles with our appetizers!
As the restaurant got busier the noise level increased dramatically! However it did not take away from how fantastic the food was!
Will recommend MRKT to all of my friends!
The food was very good and despite a modest choice, the bases were generally all covered.
Presentation was good and the flavor combinations were very good. the dishes that we had were prepared just right.
the café was a bit loud but that covered conversations at adjacent tables. décor was very modest.
all in all a good dining experience.
This was my third time at MRKT. Service was good. Friends had the mussels, which they raved about. I had maple meatballs, which were flavourful and well-cooked. The baked goats cheese was also excellent. Good wine list, with a few great by-the-glass options.
I wondered why the restaurant was dead on a Saturday evening but then ended up waiting a long time for an underwhelming and small portioned dinner. The flavors were good but i left there hungry and paid way too much.
Would try lunch there if around the area, but no value for dinner.
We dined at MRKT with friends before a concert/show and we were very pleased with the restaurant. Service was incredible with our server being very knowledgeable, friendly and able to make great recommendations. The charcuterie board was generous and the meals delicious. This is a great restaurant - the only drawback we found was the overall ambience; this is a great place if you are looking for a fun, casual evening however if you are looking for something quieter and more romantic another venue may be better. We found the tables quite close together and because we had a very lively group right beside us it was difficult to enjoy the company of our friends. I think a solution might be for the server/hostess to seat the tables further apart when the restaurant is not busy however having said this I would still recommend this restaurant to family and friends.
This was my first experience at MRKT and for me it was a great beginning. Wine list was great and food options looked very appealing. I enjoy my selection for dining and my wine. The noise level was a bit to contend with for a quiet conversation. Having said that, the energy in the room had an infectiousness to it.
I've had great experiences here for special intimate evenings and group dinners as well. The service is the best I've received in the city, and the cocktails are all made to near perfection. The o my criticism I could offer is that the menu is not large, and could be changed a bit more often. Would highly recommend MRKT.
We were the first people at the restaurant for an early dinner before a show. All it took was for three other people to arrive for it to become very noisy. I don't know if they were the loudest people on earth or if it's the acoustics, but by the time there were six other people in the restaurant, we could hardly hear ourselves talk.
Food was good, orcheietta was bland and unfortunately that's what most of us ordered. Prawns were excellent. Cheese & charcuterie, melty cheese and roasted tomato bruschetta were delicious.
Music was WAY too loud. Service was rushed and sloppy. Our plates were quickly thrown in front of us.
The service was attentive, the food a high-quality finish and a great selection of wine & other drinks. A nice combination of big & small plates makes accommodating all kinds of palate needs pretty easy. Ambiance was excellent. We had a table of 26 beside us and while it get a tad noisy, prior to that, it was comfortable. Not that it was uncomfortable with the large group, just noticeable. But the food was top-notch. I would absolutely go again. If using a Maps App to find it, signage out front is not apparent and walking up a handful of stairs is necessary. "Where is this place?" Did come to mind and I had to call to confirm; however, it was easy after that. Oh--free, 2-hour parking on Jasper Avenue right in front definitely helped!
This was the first time the 4 of us have ever been there, we were excited to try a new place and heard great things of mrkt. The food and drinks were amazing- we shared a tasting board then each got the prawn dish. Again the food was delicious. Our service was lacking. Our dark haired server -whose name I do not know because she never bothered to introduce herself-, was for lack of a better word a very sour individual with a poor attitude. She was rude and short. At some point we asked her to take a picture of the group to which she quickly replied she has to go "check on her big table", and ran off. We didn't bother to ask again when she returned later, nor did she offer. Overall, the food was amazing too bad the service was disappointing.
It was way too loud in this restaurant. I had to shout at the rest of my party sitting across from me. The food was really great. But I booked the reso ahead of time and they stuck us at this huge large table and we were sitting beside people we didn't know. It was a special occasion, so being able to talk to everyone would have been great. Not really impressed. Great winews menu though
I have been coming here for the passed 3 years and I keep coming back as I enjoy the food, atmosphere and service. This is like finer dining without the finer dining costs and snootiness that they can be known for.
The most recent visit I have been greatly impressed with their menu. I had the duck with bratwurst and very tasty! I like how it is set up like a charcuterie, very unexpected that they would do a main like this. My friends who were less of foodies than myself were equally impressed by all of the things mentioned. One was visiting from Calgary and said "this is not the Edmonton food scene I remember and this restaurant is better than anything I have had back home". They cannot wait to come back and I will continue to support this MRKT.
We had a wonderful business dinner at MRKT. Our server was attentive and very helpful in recommending wine selections, and timed the food perfectly. Everyone was very pleased with their meals and when we lingered near the end of the evening, discussing a bit of business, we continued to feel welcome, and not rushed. Thank you for a lovely dining experience - this was my first time and MRKT and I will certainly return!
Fresh and flavorful ingredients thoughtfully combined, and good for sharing (or not!). The shrimp, the charcuterie, and the mussels were all superb. The mixed greens were nothing special (especially for $16) and the flourless chocolate cake was disappointing (delicious cream but rather tasteless otherwise). Nonetheless, the strengths of this restaurant make it one of Edmonton's best spots. I found the interior stylish but a little noisy. I'll definitely go back.
Two friends and I dined here recently and loved pretty much everything about the place. Decor was unique, food was terrific, service was most attentive! Only thing that took away from the experience was that there was an exuberant stagette party going on at the same time we were there. Our server was most apologetic, and even went as far as to bring us each a glass of port with our dessert to make up for the noise. No one's fault, certainly not the restaurant, and not the ladies celebrating. (They were actually pretty tame, by stagette standards!) But I think I'd like to try it again a few decibels lower in volume!
I don't know if it was just this one server but wow she was so rude to us. She did not ask how we were doing when we got seated up until we were finished. She felt very robotic and made it seem like she did not want us there. She was just a really rude server.
The wait for the food was painful and our server not coming to talk to us did not help. One dish in their main list was very disappointing; their bratwurst with smoked duck breast. I feel like they shouldn't have put the smoked duck breast in the title as you only get 3-4 incredibly tiny slices of breast. The portion was thinner than sliced ham. It was incredibly disappointing. Their sticky toffee however was so delicious. I'd go back just for that if only I could avoid their servers.
The isn't too much decor in the place, it looks very plain and small.
All in all it was okay. Our server just did not do a good job at all and the place looks really awkward and plain but their dishes are fairly okay. Would not go back though.
