Mr. John's Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
We were a party of four for a reservation at 5:45. Soon after being seated an extremely loud party of 8 was seated next to us. They were so incredibly loud our table had to scream at each other to be heard. Our waiter had trouble hearing our order. Our waiter forgot our sides. We reminded him about our order. The sides arrived after we were mostly finished with our steaks. Our waiter said he would give us dessert for free. No one wanted to stay any longer in that rowdy TGIF atmosphere at Mr John’s prices. We passed. Waiter gave us his card and apologized. I spoke directly to the manager. He said he knew about the loud table and had asked them to tone it down. He offered nothing after my complaint. Not I am so sorry here is my card and please join us again. He offered a very dismissive apology. Sadly the steak maybe the tastiest in all of Nola. But no steak is worth leaving a restaurant hoarse and ears ringing.
All that is to be said .... Phenomenal !! One of the top restaurants in the world in my opinion. Took some very close and dear friends and loyal customers of mine to eat here and was so over the top impressed. Recommend to everyone and anyone I talk to. Please request Gindy if able. THE best service I have ever received in my life. Knowledge of wine is incredible and the way he makes you feel as if you were his dearest and greatest friend. PLEASE , if you are in New Orleans for any reason at all ... live ,play , business , whatever it may be ... stop in and have one of the greatest meals and experiences in your life time. It’s all about you here and they put you first !! The food is out of the world. Flavor, preparation, you name it they brought it !! Incredible and will continue to dine with the team at Mr Johns for decades to come. #priceless
One of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans. I have never left here disappointed. The service is always fun and fabulous. The food is outstanding. They serve one of the best steaks in the city.
Beyond the food there is an old school charm to this restaurant. You feel stuck somewhere between a great haunt in Brooklyn and a lively room in New Orleans.
If you need a place for that special dinner or even just a Tuesday, head here without hesitation.
I have been to Mr. Johns at least 6 times and always thought it was one of the best steakhouses around. My experience last Wednesday night was very disappointing, the service was fine, ambiance good, appetizers and soup good. We were a party of 3 myself, my wife and a dear friend.
My steak was a ribeye as was my wife's. My steak was very fatty and grizzly not cooked right and not even close to what I expect of Mr. Johns, I would normally have complained and sent it back but it was a special occasion for our friend and I didn't want to interrupt our otherwise good mood. When we got in our car to go home, my wife said here steak was just as bad as mine. This really disappointed me because like I said I normally would have told management about the steaks, but didn't feel like the hassle. I don't think we will ever be back. I am quite frankly shocked at the quality of the steaks.
This was a terrible meal. The filet carpaccio app was atrocious. The meat was drenched in the balsamic dressing which overwhelmed the entire dish making it one noted. There was no flavor except the overwhelming balsamic dressing. The pork belly was too thin and had a nice crust but the gravy tasted like it was made from a packet and had no flavor. The steaks were tough and had no flavor and the rib eye was too grissled. On a good note the spinach salad was solid. Everything was exorbitantly over priced and no value. This was truly a horrible meal for the price
It was our 1st night in New Orleans. We were staying at the Avenue Plaza & wanted a place to go for my husbands birthday. It was perfect. Excellent food & service. The petite tenderloin was the best steak we have ever had. The complimentery garlic bread, wedge salad, & augratin potatoes were all delicious. Made for a wonderful evening.
Loved the place and everything would have been perfect had they prepared my steak as I requested. I ordered my steak well done and explained to the server I do not like my steak with any red and I received it cooked medium. I took 2 bites and couldn't eat anymore. This was our first time to New Orleans and we passed Mr. Johns so I recommended we try it. Our meal was $172.00 for both of us I only wished my steak had been cooked as I ordered.
The reservation was right on time. The overall ambience was nice. The food was excellent. The service was spot on. We had a table of 16 just behind us and the noise level for an hour was near deafening. Think that is an unusual case as it didn't happen two or three times before.
We came here Saturday to celebrate our recent engagement and I regret it. We thought It would be a nice romantic evening however it was overly loud and though our waiter was excellent because it was a busy night the food was not what I have experienced in the past not being as seasoned or as tasteful as it was in the past. Also the steak wasn’t cooked correctly and had to be sent back so our sides got cold. Not a good experience for such an occasion that’s for sure
We weren’t seated for reservation time it took at least a 30 minute wait after reservation time. They had a large group that was extremely noisey and the waiter had to almost scream to tell us what was on the menu for the evening. It wasn’t a memorable night i was a little disappointed!
Great experience! The service by Gindy was personable and the atmosphere was pleasant. The noise level was the quietest I have experienced dining out in a long time. I know it was because it was lunch. It was nice though to have a semi-quiet dining experience. When I go back I will try a smaller cut of steak. It was also nice to have one of the owners on the floor and to be able to get the background story of Mr. John’s from him. Good food and service!
We came here for my birthday dinner with friends. We had a great time! The service was fabulous and the food was wonderful. I had a petite fillet and it was cooked to perfection (medium +1 = pink in the middle/no blood). One of my friends brought 3 bottles of primo red wine (thank you Carol). Gindy provided information about the pairing of wine with our food and he was spot on! All in all, I'd give this restaurant more than 5 stars if I could.
As a side note, after dinner we went to the Tin Roof bar which is across the street from Mr. Johns in the Pontchartrain Hotel. They have the best view of the city and great drinks!
