Mr. John's Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
This was a terrible meal. The filet carpaccio app was atrocious. The meat was drenched in the balsamic dressing which overwhelmed the entire dish making it one noted. There was no flavor except the overwhelming balsamic dressing. The pork belly was too thin and had a nice crust but the gravy tasted like it was made from a packet and had no flavor. The steaks were tough and had no flavor and the rib eye was too grissled. On a good note the spinach salad was solid. Everything was exorbitantly over priced and no value. This was truly a horrible meal for the price
It was our 1st night in New Orleans. We were staying at the Avenue Plaza & wanted a place to go for my husbands birthday. It was perfect. Excellent food & service. The petite tenderloin was the best steak we have ever had. The complimentery garlic bread, wedge salad, & augratin potatoes were all delicious. Made for a wonderful evening.
The reservation was right on time. The overall ambience was nice. The food was excellent. The service was spot on. We had a table of 16 just behind us and the noise level for an hour was near deafening. Think that is an unusual case as it didn't happen two or three times before.
We came here Saturday to celebrate our recent engagement and I regret it. We thought It would be a nice romantic evening however it was overly loud and though our waiter was excellent because it was a busy night the food was not what I have experienced in the past not being as seasoned or as tasteful as it was in the past. Also the steak wasn’t cooked correctly and had to be sent back so our sides got cold. Not a good experience for such an occasion that’s for sure
We weren’t seated for reservation time it took at least a 30 minute wait after reservation time. They had a large group that was extremely noisey and the waiter had to almost scream to tell us what was on the menu for the evening. It wasn’t a memorable night i was a little disappointed!
Great experience! The service by Gindy was personable and the atmosphere was pleasant. The noise level was the quietest I have experienced dining out in a long time. I know it was because it was lunch. It was nice though to have a semi-quiet dining experience. When I go back I will try a smaller cut of steak. It was also nice to have one of the owners on the floor and to be able to get the background story of Mr. John’s from him. Good food and service!
We came here for my birthday dinner with friends. We had a great time! The service was fabulous and the food was wonderful. I had a petite fillet and it was cooked to perfection (medium +1 = pink in the middle/no blood). One of my friends brought 3 bottles of primo red wine (thank you Carol). Gindy provided information about the pairing of wine with our food and he was spot on! All in all, I'd give this restaurant more than 5 stars if I could.
As a side note, after dinner we went to the Tin Roof bar which is across the street from Mr. Johns in the Pontchartrain Hotel. They have the best view of the city and great drinks!
Have visited Mr. John’s previously, so this was a disappointment. We had The Who Dat Shrimp for an appetizer, and the Bacon was overcooked, which made the Shrimp dry. I had the daily special which was grilled Drum topped with Crabmeat; the fish was not well seasoned, and therefore lacked flavor. My husband had the Ribeye which was supposed to be cooked medium, yet it wasn’t. However, his side dishes were perfect! He had the Sautéed Mushrooms and Potatoes Au Gratin, and they were delicious! Despite this subpar visit, I still recommend to friends because dining at Mr. John’s is an experience.
One of the best dining experiences we have ever had. The waiters JT and Mike were great, the Chef came to our table and introduced himself. The steaks and salad were great, as was the pompano. However, the crab cakes were out of this world. The red velvet brownie was the perfect finish to a great meal and a good time had by all.
It was a Christmas gift card from my son last year. We normally do not dine in New Orleans. It was my husband birthday so we decided to try it. We brought my son along since he has been in your restaurant before. It was a great choice for his birthday selection. I am sure we will be back. I was very, very pleased with the food since I am not much of a meat eater.
Loved Mr. John's and the crowd even at our late reservation time shows everyone else appears to as well. We were promptly seated which I like when having a reservation. Service was wonderful and staff was very attentive. Food was outstanding and we kept our portions down IE petite filet so that we could sample a lot. I loved the small "neighborhood" atmosphere and ambiance of this restaurant with a small but very cool bar area. It is loud so having a lot of intimate conversation was a challenge for sure but we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here and will return without question.
