Mr G's Ratings and Reviews
We have lived in the DFW area for over 10 years and have tried many restaurants, but Mr. G's was the best restaurant we have ever been to in town. The food and service were both outstanding. Darryl, the maitre d' was one of a kind. He made feel welcome and at home. We will definitely return and recommend it to our family and friends.
Great service, and a maitre'd who fits the role perfectly. Portions are Texas size, so I would keep this in mind when ordering appetizers as the main courses are not small. Food was well prepared and tasty, and service was attentive but not overbearing. A nice find in the middle of an airport hotel!
I am a very meticulous gent, I plan everything out months in advance. I was so blown away by this restaurant last year (2016) during Texas Frightmare Weekend. I planned out exactly what I was going to eat, I printed out the menu, and provided my guests choices before we got there. I made reservations months in advance. When we arrived, the place no longer seemed exclusive, it was loud, the staff was fumbling around and changing table cloths while we were trying to enjoy ourselves. I was prepared to have the Reef and Beef, because I crave lobster and they had a set menu. I even asked the gentleman when I made the reservations if the menu was the same and he told me it was. The set menu was selective and for what it cost, I would have preferred just leaving and going to an upscale restaurant. I was highly disappointed by the sarcasm the staff conveyed and how I was treated this time around. Sadly, I will not be going to this restaurant next year as I go every year to Texas Frightmare Weekend. Looks like it was a fluke, and the staff even upset celebrity icon Udo Kier by asking his associates Charles Band and Agent if Udo was bothering them instead of offering him a seat. These guest sat next to us. They can't even realize a celebrity in their midst. Very disappointed.
Good goose liver appetizer. Very good filet, done just right, juicy and chewy. Good service. Not much interruption by waiters. Great seating for date night and quiet conversation.
Maybe need to improve:
Slow to serve food. You need to wave down the waiter for ordering. They are most likely not going to be over your shoulders asking if you are ready to order.
Wine list changed about 2 months ago. No more Silverado or Opus One by the glass. Bummer for Pinor Noir lover like my partner! Wine was not stored correctly and may be opened for a day or two.
Definitely one of the best steaks I have EVER had )and I like steak, so I order it a lot). Service was quiet & attentive without being intrusive. Man, seriously, whenever I fly through Dallas I am going to make a point of having a long enough layover for dinner at Mr G's.
Mr. G's is one of our favorite places for special occasions. It is located in the Hyatt at DFW Airport. The restaurant is very small but elegant. From the moment you arrive and are greeted, to the wait staff who use a team approach to serve you, to the management, everything here says attention to detail. The food is the star of the show though. We have never been disappointed in the food or service and our Valentine's Night out was consistent with our past experiences. I highly recommend Mr. G's!
We ordered steak and sea bass. Food was ok, but service was not that great.
Food and wine can be expensive. Beware.
Wait time before and after placing our order is Looonnng!
Make sure you signal the server when you are ready to order.
Make sure you get your orders in first, especially if there are large groups.
Patience. Sit back and enjoy.
Their bread with sour cheese tastes good.
We were stuck in DFW overnight after missing a connection. We booked the Hyatt Regency and discovered the little gem, Mr. G's. We had a delightful experience. Great atmosphere, great food and great service! Just 14 tables made you feel like special guests for the night. My hats off to Darryl, the Maître' d who remembered us from 18 months prior when the same missed connection resulted in the same memorable experience. Also to Willie, our Waiter both times.
Dining at Mr. G's is an absolute must if you have the time passing through DFW. If you are stuck overnight, dining there is a great way to make "lemonade out of lemons."
Mr. G's has been a favorite of ours for nearly 30 years. It is a quite, elegant restaurant rich with "old school" ambiance. While the menu is limited, the steaks and seafood are almost always excellent. Wines are limited as well, but what they have are excellent as well. The service from Darrell (the Maitre D) to every waiter, they have decades of experience. Save room for the dessert cart. Overall a DFW gem.
I never knew that this great restaurant was at the Hyatt Hotel. Had been to the Hotel
for meeting but never to eat. I had Hyatt gold Pass point so I decided to use this place
Wow it was great. The staff are first class. the atmosphere was just right for Valentine
day celebration. Most important the food was the Bomb( slang for it was great)!!!
If you are out that way or want a place to get a wonderful meal try this place.
This is one of our favorite restaurants...anywhere! The food is always over the top and the service even better. We have been on a quest for many years for the best Lobster Bisque in the country and we believe Mr. G's has it. Daryl, the maître d', is the most pleasant and refreshing fellow and always sets our expectations for a fabulous evening. You have to try this place to understand how special the experience is...and at DFW Airport of all places...go figure!
So you are in a airport hotel and to get to the restaurant and you basically walk through an open bar area and are greeted by one of the coolest and smart maitre-d and enter a door where you are cast into a completely quiet and elegant dinning experience. The food was superior as was the service. It all comes with a price - but it was well worth it!
Mr. G's is one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at.
The service was impeccable, and we were able to order all of our courses at our own pace.
All the dishes we had were fabulous. Atmosphere was wonderful. I can't wait to go back. It is not your typical hotel food.
