We have been there twice before so we decided to return. We never complain about anything when dining out, but this was an exception. We were seated in a nice room upstairs, but it was so uncomfortably warm. We asked twice if they could adjust the air conditioning, but nothing was done. They opened up a door, but all that did was bring in the humid air from outside. We couldn't wait to depart the restaurant because of this. We even encountered another diner outside the restaurant who said the same thing. She said staying outside in the heat was preferable to sitting inside. I don't think that we will return there.
Love the food, service and personal approach at MP Taverna. The deck wasn't open but we were told by the manager who was very apologetic and friendly in his explanation. The food was excellent. So was the service. My only wish is that MP Taverna would offer more gluten and lactose free options. If they did, I'd be there every week!
The food here is quite good and prices are fair. Appetizers were tasty, and the grilled bronzino was great. They were out of the wine that I wanted, so the waitress suggested and alternative. She was nice enough to give us tastes. The first taste was something I didn't like at all, so we found a different one. Like many Greek restaurants, too many Greek wines by the glass, something that must be an acquired taste that I have yet to acquire. But the food was very good and we enjoyed ourselves. We sat in the back of the bar, which is one of the quieter spots. The place can get quite noisy.
Probably the most reasonable restaurant in the area. We tried a variety of dishes and everyone ate everything.
This restaurant continually surpasses expectations in every category. Gourmet food, great atmosphere and service! Because it is also all offered at amazing value prices, we will continue to dine there frequently.
We loved the food, service, and ambiance. Also, the location was very convenient.
Arrival greeting was welcoming. Ambience easy and casual. We were seated in the back, across the kitchen door. Not great, but ok. Per our server, wine list and menu recently changed becoming more mainstream to satisfy their customers. Our server had limited to no knowledge of wines I asked about. I ordered a glass of Assyrtiko from Santorini which was quite nice. We shared 3 great appetizers: dumplings, octupus, and scallops. Our server recommended Greek Paella, three of us ordered it. Flavors overall were ok, but laden with too much olive oil. 2 desserts were great. 3 specialty coffees our server made with salt water! Still don't understand what happened. Received confusing answer, just asked for check and left. Will try once in future
After a good dinner we returned for Sunday lunch.
The place was understaffed and overwhelmed because of a private party.
The few available servers could not keep up. It took an hour and 15 minutes for our food to arrive, and whe it did several dishes were cold and dried out. The waiter was apologetic and treated us to coffee, but that certainly did not compensate for the pour experience.
The manager seemed well aware of the situation but did not say or do anything more.
My husband and I go out a lot. We love to try new places, but frequently find ourselves returning to MP. It is one of our favorite places.
They were out of a lot of dishes we were interested in
As always the food was excellent, it is our most favorite restaurant where we girls meet to have a visit with each other and enjoying their always great grilled fish with the Greek salad. A gem.
We were not rushed. Waiters were careful not to remove our plates until we were all finished eating. We were very appreciative that the service was so sensitive to our needs.
Food was delicious. We had the Branzino lunch special, which came with salad and dessert. Very tasty. Wonderfully seasoned. Our waiter not only made for nice eye candy, but was knowledgable and super attentive. Will definitely go back.
The food was great, with the exception of the mixed grill, which was dry and tasteless. The real disappointment was the ambiance and service. Insist on sitting downstairs when it's summer--2nd floor is uncomfortably warm. Waiter was nice, but clueless. Dessert saga: We ordered 2 desserts to share, both with ice cream. Ice cream is melting, extra plates are very hot. Waiter knows this -- they burned his fingers bringing them to us. Ice cream is melting, the plates are not useable, we still need utensils. We ask that he replace the melted ice cream. He brings us new WARM plates, but no utensils. We finally get spoons, divide the dessert. It's delicious despite the melted ice cream. We're done. The replacement ice cream arrives. oh well.
We were really looking forward to our dinner plans here, however when we got there the girl who was seating us had an attitude for some reason and then brought us to a table that was soo close to the other couple, my husbands chair was stuck in the aisle and in order for me to sit down another table had to get up and move their chair( and I'm Not a by girl either). We then ordered some apps and the Branzini which was cold , not served w/ any lemon (we had to ask for it)and just no very good at all. We had also ordered the lamb shank but the waiter came back to tell us they were out. Completely dissappointed . Better off at Kyma , Ethos or Limani's if you want Greek food on the island
Let me get the bad part out of the way first. There is a rear service door out to the patio that slams constantly with such force as to shake the floor. When it gets busy you can expect the door to slam almost every minute, which really grates on you if you are upstairs. Also, perhaps I just was just unlucky but my lamb shank was tough and dry.
The grilled octopus appetizer is to die for. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Likewise were Grandma's Meatballs. Incredibly light and bursting with flavor. 2 of my companions had grilled Branzini and were quite pleased. My other friend had the special which was grilled & butterflied trout. Said it was good, but he was not overwhelmed.
The food was predictably good (not great), but the service was a bit slow, due to a large party that must have involved most of the staff. The whole experience while good, was not up to par for MP Taverna.
We loved the carefully made salads. Excellent pork chop special. Fantastic fish dishes. The wait staff needs more training about the menu. We ate at MP Astoria last week and MP Roslyn this week, Both times the waitresses were pleasant and friendly BUT did not know the menu. I ordered the pork chop special. The waitress said it was simply grilled. It was actually served with grilled leeks and red onion slices with a WONDERFUL tomato reduction. Much BETTER than simply grilled. The waitress had no idea. She said it was off the bone. i almost passed on ordering it because ON the bone pork chops are always better. Imagine my delight when it was served with a nice bone for me to gnaw on. One of the best pork chops i have had in the last year.
We love MP Taverna for its consistently excellent food and great service. They now offer rooftop dining. We did not try it because the evening was very warm and muggy but will definitely give it a shot, hopefully soon. Also, while the place can be noisy, we went on a Tuesday evening and the sound level was fine, allowing for easy conversation.
I have been to this restaurant many times and this is the first time that I was truly disappointed with the service. The waitress was pretty non-attentive. It took about 10 minutes to get her attention just to get extra spoons for the appetizers. Not all the appetizers were served at the same time. We had to inquire about the octopus salad which eventually came 10-15 minutes after the initially serving of the other apps. When it did finally come, the main course pretty much came at the same time.
Although the food was pretty good, the service really took away from it!
Everything about the meal from service to food was excellent!
they do an absolutely excellent job on grilling their fish and to be able to eat outside on their deck this time of the year is just great and very relaxing. Our waiter was trying a little bit too hard to please and came to ask us just a few too many times if we needed something else etc. He was very nice but needs to calm it quite a bit.
Service was not up to its usual good standard. Probably due to Father's Day.
The food is fine but the portions are very small and not what you would expect from a Greek taverna. It is also way overpriced...$15 for a mediocre souvlaki? I was charged $28 for a 4oz piece of fish which was slothered in butter. Very disappointing.
Food very good. Think we had a new kid as waiter...very polite but still learning...he ll be fine.
Look forward to hitting the rooftop for drinks
There has been a recent turnover in staff ... all new faces! They seem to be trying hard so hopefully they will keep the high standards that have been set. Happy Hour on the deck ends at 6, unlike the bar, which ends at 6:30, so be sure to get there early.
We really enjoyed our brunch. The staff couldn't have been nicer. It's a beautiful place. We will definitely go back again.
3rd time having dinner at MPT and consistently good. Ordered a specialty drink and my glass came out with a huge lipstick mark but they apologized and gave me a new drink. In my opinion they should have comped the drink, its not like I'm at Fridays... My friends and I shared the beef sliders and they were great and came with 2 good sauces on the side. Our waiter was a bit chatty but cant fault him for the effort. I ordered the branzino and it was good, my 2 other friends both ordered the steak and were happy. We shared a halva brownie for dessert, when they ordered it I made a face but it was delicious. Overall good experience. Would come back again.
This was our second time back. Food is excellent and different. The grilled octopus chick pea salad is a must! We also tried the bulgar salad which was delicious. I had the branzino again and it was just as good. They have a rooftop outdoor seating area which was being reserved for a big party. I would love to try it the next time. Unfortunately we were put at a back table by the kitchen which was not very atmospheric but the food made up for that. The service was fine but this was also the second time the appetizer came out and the entree followed shortly after. Next time I will tell them to slow it down even though they didn't rush us out. I highly recommend this restaurant .
There were two of us. We ordered Greek Meatballs and the MP Salad for appetizers. Both were excellent. For main dishes, we ordered Lamb Shank and Mixed Grill. Lamb Shank was perfect. Mixed Grill included two excellent sausages but was dominated by two large dried out, tough and not flavorful pieces of chicken breast. Inedible. Threw chicken away when we brought leftovers home. I think there was supposed to be another kind of meat in the dish, but I could not find it. We did not have dessert. Overall, a great place. If I go again, I now know what NOT to order. Anything with chicken in it.
Excellent food, stellar service. My wife and I went out to dinner for the first time since our son was born and MP Taverna proved to be a great choice. We dined on the roof top outdoor seating with nice weather, which certainly helped the occassion. We will go back soon.
Skipped the octopus salad for the first time but suggested it to my dining partner who had never tried it. He thanked me! I ordered the Simply Grilled Branzino with Tomato Salad. The preparation, presentation and taste were beyond my expectations. The service is always attentive and I never feel rushed. I always recommend MP Taverna to friends and I wil continue to be a fan!
Everyone at our table had fish and everyone was extremely pleased. The Branzino had more bones than I expected but was grilled perfectly.
The food was good for the price point, but the service was in attentive at best. 3 of us ordered the same meal & they still managed to put the wrong food in front of us. We could not understand the waiter when he spoke & the noise level made it difficult to converse. We had a reservation for 7 pm & needed to change it at the last minute & we were accommodated without any problem. We were very appreciative.
We really enjoyed our dinner. The food was very good with exceptionally fresh fish. Our only complaint was that the service was not as attentive as you might like. This is our second time at the Roslyn location. However, the service during our first visit was excellent. We will definitely go back again.
We enjoy eating here. Good menu selections and large pportions. Very reasonably priced. Wife and I usually split a salad and we each have an appetizer as the main course (portion size is adequate if you're not a big eater)
I would (and have) recommend this place to friends.
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and the service was wonderful and caring..WE will be back soon!
Looking forward to the rooftop for some drinks and summer dining....
Consistent food all the time. Apps/salads are great for sharing. Wide menu selection from Burgers to great Fish. The whole family of picky eaters always finds something great to eat here.
Wanted a quiet evening out with my wife to discuss a few personal matters. Was sat on the first level next to the bar in one of 5 "deuces" that they have on this level. Immediately asked to be changed and was told by a fairly uncaring host simply no. (They do have upstairs seating, she never looked). My dinner, although quite good was ruined by the sounds of the people next to us and the behinds of their waiters sprawled across the table. Manager didn't really care. In fact he went to all the tables that weren't two to see how their meal was. They need to remove one of the five squished tables. If not, don't go unless you are a party of three or more. It's a good place but atmosphere is important so I would not go back as a 2.
Al fesco, a bit breezy, but fun and delicious. We had a great time.
