About MP Taverna - Irvington
Chef Michael Psilakis introduces his award-winning Greek-inspired cuisine to Westchester with the opening of MP Taverna, a modern interpretation of a traditional Greek tavern.
MP Taverna’s accessible menu brings Psilakis’ Greek fare into the American culinary lexicon and is another step towards the chef’s goal of putting Greek cuisine on the culinary main stage. “The memories I have of cooking with my family are the inspiration for my restaurants, and I hope my guests create their own memories through their dining experiences at MP Taverna,” says Chef Michael Psilakis. “I want MP Taverna to be a destination for more than just a celebratory meal; a place that conjures the familiarity of your dining room table at home.”

MP Taverna - Irvington Ratings and Reviews
MP Taverna has a unique 1/2 bottle wine menu which I loved. They will pour you a 1/2 bottle of a wine and put it in a carafe and the prices are reasonable. We had a delicious Amarone which I usually don't order out because it is a pricey wine. The food was rather good we had simple baked chicken and a souvlaki which could of had a juicier sauce . The service was very slow. That was my only issue. Otherwise try it!
I used to live nearby and this was one of our favorite places. So it was an obvious choice for my first visit in a couple years. Unfortunately, my experience tonight ended up being a big disappointment. Maybe it was a bad night. But I don’t know about that since there did not seem to be any awareness from the manager or waiter that anything was wrong. We were seated right away after checking in - so far so good. The bus person offered us water and asked if we wanted sparkling, which we did and he brought it. And I asked for the Dip Trio. Great. The waiter however did not appear for several minutes. When he did, he was aware of the dip order. Great! He recommended the Dorado. I ordered it. My daughter ordered a chicken Souvlaki pita and her friend ordered the grilled salmon. And a sprite. We also chose an order of meatballs as another app. The apps took a while but just short of “too long” and were good. Then the long wait began. we asked for more pita when the dips came. They did not arrive. No sprite either. And after 45 minutes post-appetizer we still had no meal. At 8:30 (an hour after we sat down) I flagged down the manager and asked him to check on our dinner. It took another 5-7 minutes and he (the manager) appeared with our food. My fish was completely dry and horribly over cooked. Just heat blasted. The salmon was also super dry and over cooked. And nobody ever acknowledged how bad all of it was. Oh well. This place is off my list.
We were seated near the kitchen at a four top. The waiter didn’t seem to understand our order and we had to repeat it many times. The menu didn’t list all the ingredients in the salads. My friend can’t eat peppers and they were in everything even the hummus. We were being pushed along towards the end of dinner. The waiter finally said if you’re not ordering dessert I will bring your check. There were still people at other tables but the staff was clearly ready for us to leave.
I have been to MP many times for good food and this time lived up to all the past of a reliably good meal. I have never seen it so empty there and must be as it is restaurant week next week but it was quiet and pleasant. Usually it is filled and difficult to get in without much prior planning. Love the soup of butternut squash. Great salad and wonderful souvlaki. Highly recommend.
Very pleasant and accommodating. Our server was first rate and could not have been more helpful. We have been to the restaurant several times. The food always is very good and extremely good value. I am a big fan of the lemon chicken. It is a very generous portion and good every time. I would recommend the restaurant highly.
I was there with a friend who recently had surgery which left her totally uninspired with eating. Our waiter, sorry I forgot his name, could not have been more gracious and accommodating. The food was delicious, and we cannot wait to go back. This place has it all, good food, good staff, and good vibrations. Thank you!
Excellent food and service from beginng to end. Fried calamari appetizer was crisp and not oily. The soup of the day, squash with brusselsprouts was very tasty. The four of us had the scallops and shrimp with risotto special and it was outstanding. We ended the meal with desert, apple baklava and chocolate lava cake, they both hit the spot.
Normally a good satisfying happy option but on this night a bad meal and bad experience -- over salted steak and fries. Was given specials list from the day before and ordered off it. Waiter did not take time or care to correct this & insisted on serving us a risotto we did not order. Very unpleasant evening there .. first time it has happened. Hope not s trends
This was our first time at MP Taverna and I want to start on a positive note, the food and cocktails here are very good! However, the overall experience was disappointing. I made reservations to take my husband out for his birthday last week. We work late so I selected a 9:00 reservation, which is not the latest offered there was also a 9:30 and 9:45 time slot. I did indicate that it was his birthday when making the reservation - no one said anything when we arrived, which isn’t a big deal but any other time I’ve indicated a special occasion somewhere it’s been acknowledged. There were about 3 to 4 other tables eating when we were seated. Once those tables left-about the time we got our entrees-things went downhill. Everything started feeing really rushed, and at one point, the staff all gathered in the kitchen and were gossiping about a former employee. This conversation was so loud we could hear every detail clearly. Then, someone dragged trash through the dining room, as we were eating. After we finished our entrees, the waiter brought our check without asking if we wanted dessert. Because it was my husband’s birthday, we wanted to order something so we had to ask if we could order. We ordered desserts and coffee and when it was served, the check came. And again, no mention of his birthday. We waited to pay it until we were finished with dessert, and I noticed employees waiting in the dining room with backpacks on, presumably waiting for us to leave. I simply felt like a special night out for my husband’s birthday was soured by the environment. I would recommend the restaurant not offer late reservations if they are not going to give each customer a nice, relaxing dining experience.
I was visiting a friend in the area and had heard of the reputation of this restaurant. A truly pleasant dinner. I liked that the ambience with high ceilings and plenty of wood, with enough distance between tables that conversation was possible without effort. Our server was friendly, cheerful and helpful. We each shared a house salad, with interesting flavors; ordered filet of sole special that was perfectly cooked though with less adventurous tastes and shared the ice cream dessert: maple walnut is a stand-out.
i believe that this restaurant is the best in Westchester. The food is consistently excellent.
There is a noise level...but this time we went on a Saturday night (to celebrate 2 anniversaries of marriage (each 56 years!!!!) We enjoyed the dinner and may be ready to celebrate again soon.
At MCPC in NYC for our 55th anniversary they created a sorbet desert with a written Happy 55th Anniversary and a candle..how great was that?????
We sat outside on a beautiful evening... Though the outdoor dining leaves something to be desired ( indoor is much nicer) the view of the sunset was lovely.
The food was very good but the service definitely lacked that evening. The grilled octopus was amoung one of best I've had and I consider myself to be a well traveled foodie. As a table of 4 and ordering by courses along with drinks someone should have been attending to our water and cocktail refills as well as our food orders. We even had to ask for serving utensils each time something was brought to the table.
As for the noise level, only bad when the train went rambling by otherwise quiet.
Nice place, with great ambience. Small, focused, but reliable menu. Host service. The only thing that I am not 100% happy about is that their wine list is very limited. More variety and more Greek wines (as would be appropriate for what after all is a Greek Restaurant) would tip me over and get me to visit here more often.
Always worth a trip for a fine meal. We've only been to MP Taverna 3 or 4 times, but it is worth the half hour drive for wonderful food. Had the service been slightly better (the low point was needing to ask for milk for my coffee three times) I'd have given it five stars for the food and the atmosphere. Even with the service glitches, I'd come back in a heartbeat.
Importantly, if you aren't a Greek food lover, don't be put off by thinking this is classic Greek cuisine, because it isn't. Rather it is a broad collection of fresh fish and meat prepared very well, with only a hint of what we tend to think of as Greek food. I had the Greek paella, which is somewhat different than its Spanish cousin but was very tasty and loaded with seafood. I also highly recommend the fish entrees and the crab and mussel appetizers.
The food here is excellent. Was disappointed that the steak choices that were on the menu in the past were no longer there. The dining room and bathrooms were "dusty" which again, doesn't come across well in what is generally a nice restaurant in a great space. Made me left to wonder if the restaurant has changed hands. The wait staff was also "fine". In the past, the wait staff was outstanding and everything was top notch. This time everything was just a little off. Also, my drink (cosmo) was not what I consider a traditional cosmo. There was a flavor in it that made me think the bar tender wasn't quite sure what a cosmo was. It was okay, but not a cosmo. MP was our "go to" place, but now I will consider others first.
Been here a number of times. Consistently good. Fresh ingredients and well prepared without overdoing it. I also really like that the wine list has many selections by the glass. Makes it a lot easier to try wines I'm not familiar with. Nice vibe and elegant but casual decor.
