MP Taverna - Irvington
MP Taverna’s accessible menu brings Psilakis’ Greek fare into the American culinary lexicon and is another step towards the chef’s goal of putting Greek cuisine on the culinary main stage. “The memories I have of cooking with my family are the inspiration for my restaurants, and I hope my guests create their own memories through their dining experiences at MP Taverna,” says Chef Michael Psilakis. “I want MP Taverna to be a destination for more than just a celebratory meal; a place that conjures the familiarity of your dining room table at home.”
Excellent food and value. Great and all too rare combination.
Great food and service. Will definitely be back.
I hadn't been here in a long time, and don't know why. So, when I needed a place for lunch on a Monday, I remembered they were open and made a reservation. It is very good, and on a Monday for lunch, pleasantly empty...very nice atmosphere to catch up with an old friend over a long leisurely lunch. Don't get me wrong, for dinner or on weekends it is a gloriously busy, vibrant place, but on a cold Monday for lunch with an old friend, the quiet combined with the wonderful food, drink, and service was welcomed!)
Food was very good. Paella with seafood was loaded with shellfish, hanger steak a little small but very tasty, the special penne vodka with ragout was very enjoyable. We had a good time there.
Unfortunately we arrived to find that despite having a reservation we had a 30 minute wait. There was a large crowd of people whose reservations were also not being honored. It was chaotic and unpleasant. We had planned our evening with enough time to enjoy dinner with friends and then attend a show nearby. We had to scramble to find an alternative dinner location. Manager would not even speak to us. Not good.
What started out as a terrible welcome by the hostess (no record of our reservation on Open Table, was advised never to use Open Table, and told we'd have to wait at least 20 minutes for our table) turned around into a thoroughly enjoyable meal. Some spotty service issues and ran out of most fish options by the time we ordered but, fortunately, the chef does EVERYTHING well so we were able to enjoy our meal.
One of our favorite restaurants. It never disappoints!
We were celebrating an anniversary and had a party of six people. When we arrived our table was waiting for us and were very happy that we were giving a round table at the end of the dining so that we could talk to the other members in our party.
The menu is very creative and different from most other restaurants in the area. All the food that we ordered was delicious and everyone was happy with their selection.
We had a very lovely evening I would recommend this restaurant. Just wish the entrance way, bar area , and hall were a little larger since it tends to become difficult when entering or leaving the restaurant.
Excellent, hearty and unique food at reasonable prices.
We were happy to meet friends at MP Taverna. Was a bit surprised that on a Sunday it was fairly empty. Since it was around noon, we all ordered breakfast food items and we enjoyed our selections. At least we didn't feel rushed since no one was waiting for our table. We would go back again.
This is among our favorite places for dinner. The bar is great with some fine whiskies and an excellent wine list. The servers are friendly and attentive. The food is always delicious; it may have a Greek accent but is nothing like the restaurants that cause people to say “I don’t like Greek food.”
Food and ambiance was great. Service got a bit slow. Biggest complaint was the cappuccino. Tasted like weak coffee with some foam. Otherwise a terrific meal.
I ordered lamb burger--something I had ordered frequently before. This lamb burger was tasteless. I was disappointed. I hope that the chief will remedy this problem.
We adored MP Taverna. Friendly service and tasty food all around. Everything was good--we got the branzino and the paella--but the eggplant dip was particularly delicious. We will be going back!
We had lunch at MP Taverna. The entire experience was amazing: very attentive service, delicious and creatively prepared food, and lovely space. MICHAEL PSILAKIS himself (yes, Iron Chef America Michael Psilakis!) had served our table as well! What a treat!
New Years Eve... just a little disappointed about being rushed to order because the kitchen was closing
New Years get together with friends. Had delicious food.. ambiance was cheerful and festive. Lovely night
I would come back here again and again for the food. Hands down the most tender and delicious octopus around. Phenomenal experience. Very nice to meet the chef!
I always feel well taken care of at MP Taverna. Family was in for Christmas Eve and wanted an upbeat restaurant and they were as delighted as we always are with this excellent restaurant.
Thanks so much for making the holiday such a special occasion.
went for Sunday brunch--it was great. The eggs were done to perfection
We think of ourselves as regulars and have never been disappointed. We like all the dishes, but especially the octopus, branzino, and roast chicken.
Was ok.. pork was dried out ..salad and smashed fries delicious...chicken yummy! Get the lunch special! Good value!
The food was amazing! Flavors were spot on! The dessert was beyond delicious. Would recommend MP Taverna to anyone and everyone!
Excellent, creative cuisine. Much more than just another Greek restaurant.
Our party of 5 decided to share all the dishes of apps and entrees, so we could each have a taste. All the dishes were prepared with such flavor and were the right amount for our group for a taste for each person.
We all had happy tummies.
We were all very happy with the food and the service. Will definitely return.
A cozy dining experience with excellent service and delicious food. Highly recommend the three dips and the dumplings with lamb sausage. Our server recommended a wine that was not on the list and it was a homerun. Definitely will be returning!
Consistently awesome food. A bit on the pricey side for everyday dining. Great service as well. This place fills up quickly so be sure to make reservations.
Food is consistently good.
The staff, one and all were the nicest. Had grilled octopus as an appetizer and it was superb. Next time it will be my main course.😇, as the lamb burger was too heavy for my taste, but I’m not a big eater.
I will be back soon for that octopus . Can’t wait.
Always a nice experience
We had the eggplant dip as a starter and it was way better than expected. We had several questions about the menu and the waiter was friendly and very knowledgeable. I had the best lamb burger I ever had and the smashed fries were amazing. My wife had a salad but it was dressed perfectly and had tons of yummy feta. Definitely going back.
The restaurant interior needs some attention. Scratched and wobbly tables don’t really fly at this price point. Most importantly the food - particularly for vegans - is just so-so. Won’t be back.
The meal was super! Greek meatballs, sausages, tzatziki was superb and the grilled salmon and eggplant was wonderful.
Ambiance nice and the staff was really nice.
I cannot wait to return!
I went on a Sunday--the food was great. We each had one item on the brunch menu
Each was really good
Reservations only work if the restaurant honors them. Sadly MP did not. All they had to do to make us feel better would be to apologize and offer us a drink while we waited for a table. Food was fine, but pricy for what you get. Would not return.
I’ve been here many times and it’s always very good . This night the restaurant was packed and overwhelmed so the service was not good at all.
45 minute wait for my table was not a good omen but the very charming and hard-working hostess bought us a round of drinks, which helped. The three dips were great, my swordfish was smothered in some kind of eggplant with that Greek cheese. Very so-so. Good service once we were seated. Loud but fun. Not my cup of tea but I can see why people like it, especially if you’re a big group.
