Hands down the best salmon I have ever had! So yummy! Make sure to order the kitchen sauce for dessert.
As the restaurant has been so highly rated, perhaps I set my expectations too high. That being said, it was a good experience; delicious food; unique flavors. I made reservations about 2 months in advance and only time available was 5:45 PM. The evening began at a very leisurely pace which we wanted - it was a special occasion and we enjoyed 3 wonderful appetizers. However, the entrees came less than 10 minutes after we ordered them - the pork shank was not hot (in hindsight my husband had wished he'd said something) and we suddenly felt very rushed. The pork shank was a huge portion, whereas the Colorado lamb was a small portion. The server was good, but could have been more attentive to replenishing water and having the beverages come at the same time as the entrees.
A wonderful Vail "hot spot" with delicious food & drinks! Everyone working there is very friendly & welcoming ~ we couldn't wait to go back.
The best service and best food in Vail and... THE best Margarita in Vail!! Oh and the Turkey Club is the best sandwich in Vail!
We took or daughters to dinner after an awesome day skiing in Vail. The food was amazing for both adults and kids. ( The kid menu with kid cocktails was a huge hit). The service was great. Our waitress was awesome. We will definitely be back for date night or with family and friends.
Great dishes, but the assistant to the main waiter definitely needs more training. We (2) shared several appetizers which were of exceptional quality and appearance - shrimp and grits, roasted carrot salad and a pork belly appetizer (quite lean and delicious). However, initially we had to ask for additional plates and for getting any bread. The bread was very nice and I don't understand why it wasn't offered when we started to order.
It was so good I had to have some " kitchen sauce" ( find it on the deserts menu)
My compliments to the chefs
Amazing food terrible service and wait staff
Every thing was great except trout. Food was innovative and delicious . We had the lamb and trout. I thought the trout was too fishy and it came with a really smelly fishy rice. Not the best way to put It together. Lamb was absolutely delicious and Meat was falling. Off the bone.
We had a few appetizers and they were super.
Friendly, warm and inviting. The staff was welcoming but not overbearing. While the entrees were a bit pricey, it was on par with other high end restaurants in the Vail area. My daughter had the Salmon and she loved it.
The special soup, Cauliflower, was delightful, savory and filling. The Gnochi style starter was also delicious.
Would definitely recommend.
Always a great lunch... The Turkey Club is the absolutely best sandwich in the Valley!
Unique and distinctive hors d'oeuvres, great onion rings, shrimp and grits, and a spread with pimento, bacon and cheese. Our waited
Good concepts. However, all of the dishes tasted the same at the end, with salt, sweet, sour, and spicy. Cauliflower was too charred. Certain restaurant goers may like that blast of flavors but this was not for us...
Another fabulous meal from the people of Sweet Basil! This is a newer restaurant but we made a quick stop when we found ourselves in the area for lunch. Amazing! Every dish is perfectly created. Trust the chefs and take a risk - they know what they're doing when they combine ingredients in ways you'd never imagine. We'll be back!
Lisa was our server and was so friendly and answered all of the questions we had about the menu! We each tried a craft cocktail from the bar, which were fantastic! There was a nice kids menu for our children to order from and even some kiddie cocktails for them. The food was fresh and quickly delivered to our table. Mountain Standard offers some unique twists on things like Peel & Eat Shrimp with their homemade spicy dipping sauce. Fun and casual atmosphere. Book ahead!
Love this Vail spot! Delicious food, great service-will not disappoint.
Mountain Standard has the best lunch and dinner menu in Vail! The Turkey club sandwich for lunch is the best sandwich anywhere... fresh turkey, avocado, bacon and thin sliced peppers on ciabatta bread. The house margarita is the best! The waiters are attentive and helpful. The atmosphere is great.
The noise level was high and unpleasant. When the kitchen went crazy (repeatedly) because they were given a beer tip, the banging and hollering was awful. Off season, with the $25 price for entrées made the place full of millennials who were too loud. We were hosted to $18 of wine for our anniversary which was nice. We had one pork belly appetizer ($12) and one Rotisserie Chicken ($25) along with a side of potato salad ($8). Our server, Jennifer, was very good and commiserated with us about the noise. There was no dessert we wanted. We spent $60.70 (after the reduction for the complimentary wine) plus tip.
Mountain Standard never disappoints. The food is always outstanding and the service is excellent and attentive.
Extremely attentive and personal service! Has a great vibe with nice location right on Gore Creek.
My friends were so pleased with the reservation i made through OpenTable. The food was delicious and made of quality ingredients... you can just tell. I also enjoyed the staff and decor. I'll be returning without question!
Hip place. Must have a reservation, otherwise you will wait and hour plus. We had a reservation and still waited 20 mins. Wait staff was excellent. Host dude could be friendlier.
Fantastic venue. Fantastic food. Fantastic atmosphere. Very loud :(
Outstanding as always. Great service. Good wine list. Great open kitchen that is wood fired.
My wife and I had dinner during the restaurants off season dinner specials. She thought her grilled salmon was done perfectly with a complex of accessory flavors. I had the Colorado bass which was ruined by the overly salty sauce and fish. The salt destroyed the delicate flavor of the fish and the other things on the plate.
I took my girlfriend to Mountain Standard for her 40th birthday. I called in advance to let the restaurant know the occasion and felt we were given the VIP treatment (although I am sure they treat all patrons superbly). Food was amazing. Service was first rate. Anytime I am in Vail, I will book a reservation at Mountain Standard - no question.
Read great reviews, but it was an average experience. It was my daughter's birthday (I put it in the notes), and we got a "hey, it's MY birthday in 2 days" comment, and no other comment or congratulations. Service was slow overall. Food was good, not great.
Just Outstanding! The food is superb, and the service matched the food. We both had fish, trout and bass. Each was wonderful. The wedge salad is one of my favorites-fabulous. One of my favorite restaurants in Vail.
exceeded all expectations!! Atmosphere, food and service was EXCELLENT!!!
First visit - good food, nice spot along the river, great service by Lisa, but a bit noisy in the bar area eating along the window. I would return for their creative cuisine.
Just really good food. Have been there three times and everything has been really good and wait staff is attentive and very pleasant.
steak over done. ordered med and was well. took a long time to get new steak.
Manager was attentive, but still.
Need more local draft and bottled beer selection
The restaurant was very busy the night we were there and extremely noisy. The voices are
one thing but playing rock music ( really for dining) loudly on top of the voices - could
not really enjoy meal. Your girl very poorly dressed, very bad service.
Our cloth napkins were wet????????
I really enjoy good service and great atmosphere for dining!
My group of four will not be back. We have to recuperate.
Returned to this restaurant for second year in a row during restaurant week, it is wonderful, the food, staff and atmosphere is outstanding
We visited this restaurant during Vail/Beaver Creek restaurant week. It was a great way to sample their delicious menu at a lower price. I would definitely return to this restaurant .
We were looking forward to our visit to this restaurant. Our other option was their sister restaurant Sweet Basil. We made the wrong choice.
Our table was right next to the bar which lacked ambiance
We had to wait 45 minutes for ourfood and there was no bread offered to accompany the meal.
The salmon was fine and so was the pork, but the tomato soup that two of our guests ordered was definitely sub-par.
The overall dining experience at Mountain Standard was disappointing and we will not be returning.
Nice restaurant with a great view. Very cozy and nicely appointed.
Mountain Standard is an excellent choice for dining in Vail....if you can get a table. My friends and I were in town for a girl's weekend and Mountain Standard is the right combination of fun, food and service! Great night...skip the mezcal cocktail. ;-)
Ate during restaurant week where all the entrees were $20.16. My wife and I had the pork shank and the lamb. Both were very tasty and quite large. Unfortunately my lamb, although falling off the bone tender, was warm.....barely. Service was attentive but quite slow.
