Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Great choice! Our friends and I both agreed that we will come back! The staff is extraordinary, the food was perfect, the drinks were made extra stiff! We weren't rushed out of our table which gave us time to visit our friends in great length. We tipped our server extra for her patience, her kindness, and her professionalism! One classy place! Thank you.
A frequent visitor to Mount Vernon Inn. The waitstaff is efficient and courteous. Dinner on current visit was the Caesar Salad with chicken and the pork chop dinner. Both were prepared as requested. Portion sizes are just right. In the past have enjoyed the soups, salmon or fish special, and steaks. All are excellent choices. Request seating in the Potomac Room, Betsy Ross Room, or Tavern for a more traditional ambiance.
We didn't try this restaurant for years because we assumed it would be "touristy." This assumption was very wrong. MV Inn is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant. We love the atmosphere -- it's got a very comfortable and relaxed vibe (particularly the room with the bar). Food and service are both excellent too. Highly recommend!
We visited the Mount Vernon Inn during a family excursion to Mount Vernon.
Although we had a reservation and the restaurant was empty when we arrived, we were seated between two entrances instead of in the cozier room with the fireplace, which would have preferred.
Unfortunately, an otherwise pleasant lunch was ruined by the loud and obnoxious music being played which destroyed any potential ambiance the setting has. Different music would have elevated the overall experience immeasurably.
My brother and I took our mother to dinner for her birthday at Mount Vernon Inn. It was all around an outstanding dinner from start to finish. Great Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and we all had the 8oz filet mignon. In a word, outstanding. Probably best filet I have ever had, perfectly cooked to perfection and so tender and delicious it made my Grandma's eyes water. Seriously I could cut it with a butter knife. Fresh veggies, a spicy cup of Maryland Crab Soup, and garlic flavored mashed potatoes. Bread was piping hot out of the oven too hot to touch and served with sweet butter. Finished it off with a big scoop of chocolate ice cream and the night was complete. Amicable wait staff, we joked with them a bit as my brother used to work in the kitchen there many years ago when in high school. Make a reservation with Open Table app on your phone and get down to the Mount Vernon Inn for the filet mignon. There will be sparks flying from your silverware I promise it's that good.
It was a delicious dinner and they took care of us and made us feel special for our 31st anniversary including making sure the flowers I sent in advance were at the table. Our server was Hector and he was outstanding. Great wine recommendations and the food was tremendous.
We are from Pennsylvania and love to visit Mount Vernon during the Christmas Season. We shop in the gift area of the building for Christmas presents. Attached to the gift shop is the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant. We are able to make reservations online and this really is convenient. The staff member calls you back to confirm the reservation. The soups are wonderful. The décor makes the dining experience something special. If you plan on going use the online system to make a reservation days ahead in the holiday seasons because you may not be able to just drop in for a seating.
Alright the food was fabulous and the venue was beautiful, the service was abysmal! Water was late coming to the table, server kept delivering wrong food to our table. Handing wrong meal to each of us. Cleared silverware with second course and never brought more. Main course was delivered and still no silverware. Even though the waitress recognized we needed silverware. After 5 minutes, my wife was forced to go find the hostess to get us silverware. Any other occasion, there would have been zero tip but it was New Year's Eve.
Our New Year's Eve dinner at the Mt. Vernon Inn was beautifully memorable! The setting is lovely, the food was divine, the wine list was commendable, the wait staff was personable & professional. My husband remarked that we would absolutely be returning for our anniversary!
My wife and I dined here last night (New Year's eve). The food and overall atmosphere was mediocre at best given the price-point ($98 each + drinks). In all honesty, the food, presentation and atmosphere was not worth half that price. The bland taste of our food and zero presentation really disappointed both of us. Our waiter was friendly and engaging, which helped keep our dining experience from being a total disaster. This restaurant is probably better suited for what it does best (feeding tourists), rather than special occasion dining experiences.
Dinner at The Mount Vernon Inn was fabulous! I hadn't been there in years and was not disappointed. Their famous peanut soup -- delish! And their shrimp and grits was the best I've had. I will definitely be going back and I won't make the period between experiences as long this time. 😉
Our server Austin was fantastic. Really, all the staff are wonderful. We enjoyed our holiday lunch at the Inn. The peanut soup was really good according to my husband and I could smell the peanutty goodness across the tables. The daily fish was trout, which my husband loved. We very much appreciated the ability to swap in a veggie rather than have mashed potatoes-helps with the diet! My scotch collups was quite tasty.
Special occasion of relatives visiting the area so before our touring of the beautiful house & grounds of George Washington's home at Mt. Vernon, we had early lunch by the fresh Christmas tree. Glad we did early seating as regardless of the mostly empty areas of the classic building/restaurant area - they keep seating the groups with little children next to us.
I don't object to families eating to seems like our area was the target children corner!
Server was great and food terrific. Just get the cornbread cause you can!
The Mount Vernon Inn provided the perfect conclusion to a day exploring the Washington home. The menu offered modern takes on colonial fare and everything we tried was excellent. The hoecake appetizer was exemplary–the perfect blend of comfort food, savory, and lush flavors. Our server was friendly, personable, and attentive. He helped make our meal a special occasion rather than just dinner after a long day. The Mount Vernon Inn is one of my new favorite places. We would go out of our way to visit again.
Our family gathered in Virginia for Christmas from several different states. We spent the afternoon at Mount Vernon, then the nine of us had a lovely dinner together at the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant. The food and drinks were delicious, our waiter Robert was fantastic and the hand painted murals on the walls made the room beautiful.
The hostess was the rudest woman I have EVER encountered at a restaurant!
We stopped in for a reserved lunch before exploring Mt. Vernon, and after a 3 hour drive. The hostess was a mean old woman who could hardly be bothered to seat us. She walked so fast to our table we lost her and she was clearly annoyed at us.
The food wasn't bad, but you're definitely paying for the location and atmosphere. The waitress was pleasant and the bar tender was fun to talk to.
After our tour of the estate we decided to see if we could get a table for dinner. It was 4:50pm and when I said to the same hostess as before "we don't have reservations but can we get a table?" She just told me to stand aside. Okay, I get it, reservations first. But she was seating people who had reservations for 5:30-6pm! She was rude to person and child that came up to her podium. Then an obvious manager or boss arrived and suddenly she was VERY pleasant to all the customers. When the manager said to her "they've been standing there for awhile" and pointed at us, she looked over the rim of her glasses and muttered to him "oh they have to wait" I never walked out of a restaurant so fast in my life!
Luckily, found a much better restaurant with better cocktails, better prices, and actually much better food.
Sadly, given their location they can almost get away with treating people so badly.
Had a great time. Our server was Emily and she was outstanding. If you arrived early you could sit by a fireside or check out the excellent gift shop. One friend had a goat cheese salad and the squash soup. Two of us had burger and very well executed French fries. I had cherry pie ala mode and another had bread pudding served warm.
it was a busy Sat. night with both a Wedding and Munt Vernon's Christmas Illuminations Event going on. However, the service was attentive and excellent. Food was very good and bought to the table hot despite the crowd. Menu had many selections and was reasonably priced for the venue. TPhe prime rib was aged and so good. the manager visited each table to ask about food and service - impressive. We will go back.
