A really great space, especially seating at the bar or by the windows near the bar.
Ryan is a friendly bar tender. Our waitress was attentive.
Best part? The value. We ate a lot. Everything was tasty. The price was very reasonable.
This was not our first visit and we will definitely return.
Not exactly the place one wants to take a date given the level of noise.
Staff welcomed us so nicely! After a very cold day we were so happy to be near the warm fireplace and staff took a picture of us by the mural—-food was excellent! We will be sure to come back — made our vacation memorable. Thank you!
As always, we were very happy with our dinner on Thursday evening ... this time we brought two other couples who had never eaten at the Inn, and they were delighted! Service was unusually slow compared to other visits, even though it wasn't terribly busy. But it wasn't a problem as it allowed for a very relaxed evening!
Great food and attentive service. Had a nice evening.
Wonderful as always! The staff is the best!
Best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had. Lobster roll was great!
I was not expecting much, it is after all a pretty touristy destination, but it was charming. They had two dining rooms with wood fireplaces, so rare to see now-a-days, very cozy on a cold March night. Their selection of wines was interesting, much better than I was expecting. And the food was very good, well prepared and a couple unique offerings. We shared the fried brie. it came with a raspberry sauce that was perfect. Not too sweet. My friend got the pot pie and she ate the entire thing, I got the New York Strip with burratta and black truffle - asked to substitute mashed potatoes for the grits. I was not sure what I was going to get, topping a steak with cheese was a new concept for me, but it turned out to be REALLY good. the steak was cooked perfectly. And it was only $24.00. For 10 oz.! I have lived in Alexandria for 30 years, and this was the first time I came to Mt. Vernon to eat. It won't be the last.
The food was excellent. The server was great, but she did accidentally give me the wrong information regarding the daily special. She said pork chop with mashed potato, red wine reduction gravy, mushrooms, and brussel sprouts. While the meal was DELICIOUS and I have no complaints, the meal was actually pork chop with white grits (and cream & cheese I believe) with red wine reduction gravy, mushrooms, and asparagus. Thankfully I have no allergies and still loved the dish. I think perhaps confirmation/written specials would help servers coming into their shift understand the daily special a little better. Otherwise, our flatbread and drinks were fabulous! I had a whiskey pomegranate drink that I will definitely be trying to recreate at home.
2 of our meals were cold and one order was missing part of the meal
A long-time friend came to visit; it was a quick turn around so I thought the Inn would provide a good meal in a historical setting - and it exceeded my expectations. My son, DIL and 5 year old grandson joined us. The staff was incredibly pleasant, service was excellent as was the food. We're not that far from the Inn and plan to be back frequently. My son and DIL noted how inviting The Tavern section was and have put it on their 'place to meet friends' list as well.
Service was naive. The ratatoulle fid not enhance the filet mignon. The Brussels sprouts slaw was enormous and delicious. The lobster roll was good, too.
Impressed with the level of class in the management and staff, and delighted with the menu and wuality of the food. An unforgetable experience.
We have never had a bad meal at Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant ... the service is great, the atmosphere cozy and warm, the food delicious! We eat at the Inn any time we have spent the afternoon in DC, rather than fight rush hour traffic back to Manassas. It is a delightful drive out to the Inn, when we get there early enough we can also take in the museum or the gift shops ... and we alway eat there after a visit to the mansion itself! Just lovely!!
Noisy but good food,, accommodating staff and a great gift shop.
Excellent food, service, and surroundings. Price was fair, even better than I expected. Will return!
Great as always, always returning customer. The food feels as if it was made specifically for me. All items on menu is delicious
The scallops were too sweet, and the fried tomatoes did not taste like fried tomatoes, as they were overwhelmed with other, too strong ingredients.
The grits with the shrimp were the best food on the table.
Service was excellent.
Great place, tasty food and a very good service - we can definitely recommend the place
Meet with a friend to eat and go to a book review at Mount Vernon.
We arrived early and were seated right away ( we were expecting to wait) . Service and food were very good. Staff was very friendly.
Fireplaces all lit, beautiful and relaxing. Great food!
Bundled dinner at Mount Vernon with a tour of the home and museum. Nice little bar area in a corner of the restaurant area. Fireplaces in several rooms. Cozy, not too loud. Great place for a dinner date. Good wine selection- some of it from local VA wineries. Food was good, and well-prepared. My steak was a touch tough, but the duck my date got was excellent. Surprised veggies didn’t come with the main dish, but plenty of food in the dish. Overall we had a great dinner, and would go back in a second!
We loved our night. The waitress was very sweet and accommodating.
Love the real wood fireplaces alight near the tables keeping the cold winter outside and the warm ambiance inside. Great food, great service, good price, and close to home.
I took my little brother here for his birthday, it was a cold rainy day in February so I thoroughly enjoyed the real fireplace in both the waiting area and the dining room. Excellent ambiance and quiet atmosphere. Food and service was top notch. A little pricey but it was worth it. Food portions very good size, I took home leftovers for lunch the next day.
Little loud in Bar area if you are wanting to have dinner and talk. But we enjoyed the time there.
Elsie was a great server! Brussels sprout salad is big enough to share and FABULOUS. Pot pie was good and filling. Rock fish nicely done. Reasonable wine list. Complimentary bread is so white bread bland that it detracts from meal.
Absolutely fantastic service and delicious food! The pot pie was amazing.
This is historic Mt Vernon Inn restaurant. They now play current era music (Taylor Swift, Justin Beiber, etc) throughout the restaurant which completely takes away from any ambiance of the site. The menu is also barely anything close to what it used to be with more classic meals. The entire restaurant has changed for the worse over the years and barely resembles anything about the historic history it should.
I looked up menu online prior to booking and we'd picked out our meal choices prior to arriving. Husband wanted the shrimp and grits... When we arrived restaurant was set up for valentine's day (2/13) and no other menu options were offered. We were eating at this restaurant MT VERNON/GEORGE WASHINGTON for the historical/authentic menu offerings - which we absolutely were unable to receive. There should have been a notice online when I booked about the VALENTINE ONLY menu available. Another couple came in after us and they asked the exact same thing - this is the only menu available??? Disappointing, expensive & inflexible.
Very comfortable, casual setting.....nice table and environment.....service was exceptional. Great afternoon get together for local residents.
Enjoyed the occasion with good friends and good food.
Had a wonderful time and a wonderful meal to celebrate my fiance's birthday. Our sever Elsie was amazing and personable. The food was fantastic, had an amazing time beginning to end.
The service was great, the food was great and we had a very enjoyable evening. Thanks
Very good restaurant
Amazing food at very reasonable prices. You are in an colonial style house and all employees are dressed the same.
The food is average and the price expensive but the place is wonderful.
Always a great experience at this restaurant especially during the holidays.
Holidays decorations are beautiful and food and service is exceptional. Definitely recommend this restaurant during the holidays.
Food was not as good as in years past. The peanut soup was still outstanding but the pot pie was bland and flavorless. Somewhat disappointed as this was our family outing for the holidays.
