   It’s a shame that this restaurant is connected with Mount Vernon. The ambiance is nice, but the food leaves much to be desired. It tastes bland, an maybe even frozen an microwave quality. What they really need is a Chef here. The front rooms of the restaurant are nicely decorated, an fairly quiet. But don’t get put in the back room. It is a passageway for kitchen staff, servers an even managers. They were all walking past our table talking loudly, going in an out constantly. Which is understandable, there are four doors into an out of this room. If it’s meant to be a passage then the dining area should be walled off. It wasn’t quiet or relaxing at all. I can say there is a lot of potential here. It’s a great location, next to Mount Vernon. The ambiance in the front rooms can’t be beat. But it sorely needs some improvements on food an passage for their kitchen staff.

   Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the food I was served. The sweet potatoes and broccoli had spiced sauces mixed in that were reminiscent of the sauces used in frozen TV dinners. The duck had a differently flavored, but similarly artificial and gooey sauce that was unpleasant and extremely salty. The dessert cheese cake seemed to have been kept in the refrigerator too long and so was a bit gelatinous, similar to the types of cheesecake you can buy at Giant or Safeway. It all left the impression of a hospital cafeteria. Granted, it was a week day, but I really expected more. I especially cannot understand the odd spices/sauces. In addition, most traditional restaurants in the summer in Virginia offer special fruited drinks, such as raspberry or mint lemonade or ice tea made with real berries or mint. There were no such offerings, again leading to my sense that everything was very prepackaged/mass marketed and simply heated up or thawed. Honestly, I was shocked and can only think that this restaurant is being operated under a contract that was given to the lowest bidder.

   If you are at Mount Vernon, this is the place to eat. Great colonial era food choices, ambience, and friendly service. George Washington would be pleased to have his name associated with this fine establishment.

   No reservation was needed on a Tuesday afternoon at 5:00. Wait staff was below average. Food was below average for the price. I will not recommend this restaurant to friends.

   Food was absolutely fantastic!!! Do not miss the Jumbalaya or the shrimp & grits. Service was friendly and helpful. Environment was peaceful and had the right feel for being at Mt Vernon. This was a main highlight of our visit today. We will be back!

    Not sure if they are under new management but I went years ago and loved it. This time was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Asked for a cheeseburger and specified what kind of cheese - it came out without any cheese. Nobody checked on us until we flagged them down and by then we were too hungry to wait so we just ate it anyways. No ketchup with our fries. Had to flag someone down and it took a good 10 min just to get that ketchup. It’s a shame because I love Mt Vernon. Not sure I’ll ever go back to the restaurant.

    I wish our waitress paid more attention to our table. We waited a good 15 minutes for our check. After she brought our check, I told her I was a member. She then spent another 5 minutes fixing our check. Also, another wait staff came to take my plate without asking me if I wanted a to-go box. Other than those two things, we really enjoyed our lunch.

    A series of small dining rooms makes this a must-do experience while at Mount Vernon. Excellent food quality, pleasant ambience. Schedule your trip so food is at the end because they take away the audio guides and force you back through the welcoming center to continue your tour (this isn’t the restauarant’s fault just a hot tip for convenience).     Three of four dishes were cold when they got to the table. After reheating One of them had to be sent back again. The peanut soup was sludge, and the manager said that the consistency varies. They left the remoulade Off the club sandwich., And it fell apart. The manager said they would take the price of the sandwich off the check, but they added Back in the price of the soup that came with the sandwich, and which I could not eat because it was sludge.     Was looking very forward to eating here and my expectations were most assuredly not met - coffee for my drink and it was burnt and took 6 sugar to make it drinkable which I guess was good because it sat empty on the table till my meal was done before a single refill was offered - which is also the first time the waiter checked on us since taking our order - cornbread appetizer was disappointing - bland and dry, my friend had the fried chicken which ok but nothing to rave about and I had the chicken sandwich which was very moist and was probably the highlight which isn’t saying a lot - my friend had the bread pudding for dessert which was again not up to par so overall the food was ok but nothing to rave about and the service was atrocious - really felt ignored for most of the meal - and the price was certainly elevated due to the location and was exorbitant based on the experience - would not recommend and would not go back

    We had reservations and were placed in a very noisy room (Bar area), seems to be the sun porch with a lot of windows. We asked the hostess to give us a table in any of the other rooms, which had far more of a historic feel than the add on room. We traveled a great distance to visit Mt. Vernon. She refused, although there were other tables available. My husband is hard of hearing, and we were unable to have a conversation. The food was very good, we had the peanut soup, turkey pot pie and crab cakes. The server was not very friendly, good and efficient though.

    Fabulous! We had grits and shrimp and fried green tomatoes! So excited to try southern food! Mount Vernon us a must see. The restaurant is the cherry on top. Would highly recommend. Great food, great service nice ambience.

    MVI is routinely good value for money. The menu choices are excellent, but the portions are quite large. I usually get one or two appetizers, and still bring a portion home. The ambience is typical for an historic tavern, but it can get quite noisy at times. That being said, our guests and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

    We had reservations for a long time knowing we were going to Mount Vernon. They sat us in the bar with the bartender waiting on us. No atmosphere and a little disappointing! Most likely won’t go back.

    The Mount Vernon Inn was the perfect end to our day at Mount Vernon. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Peanut soup, fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits were southern favorites that Mount Vernon Inn made extra special.

    Food was good. Great portions and good options. Location near Mt Vernon mansion also made it a nice way to start our visit. We ate Friday night and toured the estate Saturday so a nice preview and helped with navigation the next day.
