    Disappointed. Compared to city tavern in Philadelphia, Smithsonian American Indian museum food court and restaurant at Pueblo Indian cultural center New Mexico, food offerings bland and unimaginative. Expected far more quantity small plates, more vegetable dishes, salads same as you can get at a denny’s or Applebees. No beer or wine tastings nor shrubs. No Washington grown fowl, lamb or pork or fish on menu. Only cornbread and hoecake using gristmill corn. Start of berry season and no cobblers, crisps or crumbles.

    We very much enjoyed our late afternoon meal at the Inn. Was a perfect respite after a long hot day. To start, we ordered Mac & Cheese Appetizer with steak topper to share. Was plenty for the two of us and served in a hot skillet so the cheese remained soft and yummy. Ordered two wedge salads w bacon, cherry tomatoes and a very good crumbled blue cheese. The lettuce was crisp and cold. Great on a sweltering day! It did not disappoint! We also ordered a filet mignon, medium rare, with mashed potatoes and and mashed sweet potatoes. Steak was high quality and done perfectly. Mmm-mmm on the mashes! Nothing is overly salted, which is appreciated. Always a pleasure, wonderful service, and not rushed. A great dining experience!

    I just love the history and the service is always excellent and the food does not disappoint! The servings are very generous and overall the restaurant is accommodating.

    Good value and generous portions, so be sure to come hungry. Only down side was our appetizers and main meal came out at the same time and our drinks did not arrive till after the main meal arrived. But the food was good so we come back again.

    Not what we expected. Food good, however seated in what seemed like "overflow" seating. Noise level high and felt like cafeteria style. Expected historic, quaint feel.

    Food was very good, but our waiter disappeared when we wanted to pay our bill. After asking two other waiters for our bill. over a period of about 20 minutes. a manager came and presented us with the bill. She said she had no idea where our waiter had gone.

    Started with Fried green tomatoes and hoecake both were very delicious unfortunately we had to wait for appetizer plates so they were a Luke warm but still very good. Cocktails were very good Salmon looked delicious and must have been because there was nothing left. Jambalaya was very flavorful (living close to New Orleans the flavor was very good) the turkey pot pie was very delicious could have been a little hotter. The Brussels were D~LISH! And the club sandwich looked delicious and also must’ve been because there was nothing let!! So All in All ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    I dined alone and it was so peaceful, quiet, beautiful and offered superb service. I was very impressed. Had the southwestern chicken salad. You can choose from grilled or fried chicken. Delicious and fresh. Prices are typical. Would highly recommend!

    I went to this restaurant after almost 10 years. at that time it was a great restaurant. but now it was big disappointment - both food and service. their signature items in the old days were peanut soup, cornbread, and bread pudding. but all 3 were big disappointment and the waitress didn't sow much interest. i dont think i will ever go there again!

    Food was good. Drinks were good. Wish they had more cocktail specials that included the whiskey distilled there, but there weren't even any cocktail specials with any whiskey - very surprising. Overall a good dining experience after a day of walking around Mt. Vernon.

    Wonderful experience! Staff was very helpful. My husband has a dairy allergy and the waiter was very thoughtful and helpful in making sure he was bale to have something that was dairy free.

    We had a very enjoyable lunch after touring the grounds and before our guided tour of the mansion. The location is perfect and the food wonderful! I highly recommend!

    Service needs improvement. After our food arrived, we discovered it was not what we ordered, but our server never came back to check on us. After several minutes, we were finally able to flag down another server to fix the problem. Despite the poor service, the food was delicious.

    We absolutely love The Mount Vernon Inn restaurant. It’s quaint and cozy with a wonderful atmosphere. Tonight we were in for our anniversary and we each had the Maryland crab soup as an appetizer. There was plenty of crab in it and the flavor was spectacular. For Entrees we had the duck which was perfectly cooked and not like most duck it had no fat or grease on it. The sweet potato mash is fantastic and spiced to perfection. Now I went a little adventurous and tried the Jambalaya. Not only was it loaded with chicken shrimp and andouille sausage, but it tasted like NOLA without overwhelming spice. We highly recommend eating there especially if you want to get away from the city.

    Excellent service and so much fun!!! Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant is a must for anyone visiting Alexandria. Good food and staff goes above and beyond. Shrimp and Grits is a favorite.

    Outstanding service; unique menu; excellent recommendations from our waiter - shrimp and grits (made at the Mount Vernon grist mill); quality meal; in spite of tourist season this is a bit of an oasis, but definitely recommend making reservations. Also recommend it for take out.

    Excellent service and large portion sizes. The food was good. We had the braised short rib- some parts was too dry, not enough gravy on the plate. It came with a lot of mashed potatoes but it definitely needed something on top. The kids cheeseburger and fries was really good according to my kids.

    Food and coffee tasted good but were cold. The sever did try to make up for a few foibles and was attentive. Historical setting was nice and some of the Colonial food options were nice too.
