The food choices were interesting and very well prepared. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were quite moderate for the area. We ate there for Brunch and Dinner. On the 2nd visit there was a table of people that were way too load and quite frankly somewhat obnoxious. Members of the staff apologized to us for it.
Very good selection of American rustic food; complements to the Chef. Historic building coupled with good service. Stick to wine; drinks are not well made.
Can’t come up to this area without eating here. Well water, fresh made bread and butter make it extra special. Food is excellent. A big yum.
Great food and so nice service. I would love to come back sometime. Thanks so much
We had a great lunch meeting at the Mount Vernon Inn. The servers knew just the right time to come check on us and the food was delicious!
Hostess made our family with two girls wait 30 mins despite OpenTable reservation to celebrate 12 yr old’s birthday. When she did seat us, she scolded us for being a party of four when she thought we were five. We had reserved for four. She then moved us to a crappy and small table.
Waitress and manager saved the evening. Manager moved us (again) to a nice table and gave us free desserts.
Made a reservation and visited after seeing Mount Vernon
Our dinner experience was wonderful. Fiona our server was very accommodating for changes to menu directed sides. The food, 5 different dishes, were all wonderful and perfectly prepared. There were plenty of patrons but the noise level was very low and we were able to have a wonderful conversation. Even after finishing and paying the check Fiona invited us to linger as long as we wished. Cannot wait to go back again.
Service was OUTSTANDING
Food was delicious
Best service ever.
Lovely as always. Shrimp and grits were delicious, as was the bread pudding. Corn bread as an appetizer was a surprise hit!
Food was excellent
Enjoyed period type meh
Waiter did not deserve 18% gratuity. He only visited us very briefly and was not available and did little service.
The food was very good, especially the shrimp and grits and the meatloaf. Our favorite dish was the brussel sprout salad. The prices of the food were comparable to any good restaurant. The atmosphere was clean and neat and compatible with colonial America. Our largest complaint was the service. Our waiter was very cordial, but we waited 15 minutes after sitting down before anyone spoke to us. The restaurant did not appear to be overly crowded, yet we did not receive acceptable service.
Food was amazing!
Having spent the morning visiting Washington’s home, we decided to have lunch at the inn. We were seated immediately and greeted by a kind and smiling server. We were pleasantly surprised at the price of the meals. Service was excellent and speedy. The appetizers were delicious, as were our entrees. I highly recommend the Mt. Vernon Inn.
Really enjoyed the historic ambience along with the great food and service. Soup sampler was awesome..hard to choose which of the 3 soups were best. Entree of half chicken with veges was very good. Great overall experience.
4th of July
Great option for a nice served meal at Mt. Vernon.
Would have liked more local historic foods and wait staff in costume.
Tagged this on to a tour of Mount Vernon.....nice addition. Few period correct offerings that were tasty. Prices were reasonable as well.
Great service and wonderful food.
I love taking my out of town guests to Mount Vernon Inn. The food is great!! The service was wonderful. Our server was engaging and a delight to talk to. My brother had never been to the Inn and he has lived here over 20 years. He had the duck and said it was excellent.
Meh! George would not have approved. Lacking in taste.. how can fried chicken be tasteless? Nothing special here.
Outstanding service, food was great, large portions, loved the surroundings.
Lovely Inn located at Mount Vernon. Wonderful food in a relaxing and historically accurate location.
Our favorite restaurant to celebrate special occasion, Saturday being the eve of our 7th wedding anniversary. Our waiter Austin was outstanding; the food was delicious, as usual; the only "bummer" was a rather noisy table of 8 nearby. Otherwise, it was wonderful experience.
Wonderful Virginia inspired cuisine served in a warm and friendly customer-focused environment. I've been bringing visitors to the Mount Vernon Inn for many years. This week, my friends from Florida ASKED to return for lunch after enjoying dinner the previous night! Dinner was in a dining room while we opted for lunch at the bar. High marks for the hotcakes, cornbread, lump crabcakes and fried green tomato appetizers; tomato and squash soup; turkey pye, stuffed meatloaf, shrimp and grits and citrus-crusted salmon entrees; soup and sandwich combo; and for dessert, the most incredible carrot cake any of us has ever tasted. Service for both meals was excellent! Will be back!
Food was not that good and especially for the price. Way over priced.
The food was great. However our appetizer was the fried brie, it doesn't come with enough crackers and wasn't worth the price. There was no way to eat it once the crackers were gone, and we had split it between 4 people. Each person had maybe 1 cracker. Our server was absolutely terrible. We asked about what was good on the menu and he didn't give an answer. He never came to check and see how we liked the food, and only refilled water once. We never were asked if we wanted a refill on the other drinks and didn't receive one. Then waited for about 30 minutes to receive our bill, even after asking a different server about getting it. Then never asked about splitting the bill, and seemed frustrated when we asked to have it separated. We did NOT recieve the service we paid so much for. The entrees were delicious, however we will not be going back.
We were first seated in a noisy, disorganized area, but very much appreciated the manager's willingness to move us to a lovely, quiet table in another room. This will make me consider returning to this restaurant again!
This is our third time visiting Mount Vernon Inn in the past 11 months. We live in Illinois, our daughter lives in Woodbridge, VA. Also, I did recommend the restaurant to a friend and she dined at Mt. Vernon in September. I did think the waitress we had this time was less outgoing. We were also disappointed to see that your delicious grits was limited to only a few meals and not a side option. Also, I asked to substitute my side for a salad, I was told I could would have to pay for the side salad as a side salad price, with or without the side option. Most restaurants allow side salads as a substitution with no additional cost or a minimal fee (usually $.99 - $1.99). So, I ordered green beans which I didn't want or like (I don't care for cooked vegetables) and paid the full side - salad price for my house salad. On one of my visits last summer, I ordered a cheeseburger (as I did on my most recent visit). I was able to substitute the salad without a problem and not the full side salad charge. (The waitress this year didn't even try to be nice about it. On both occasions last summer, your staff was super friendly. Overall, we love the food and the ambience and we will come back, but I do feel that their should be an option to substitute a side salad for a minimal fee.
They didn't have our reservation that was disappointing fortunately they worked us in.
As always a great place. Our server, Fiona, made the evening perfect
great place for a nice dinner. Good food and service and the wine list is good and reasonably priced.
Perfect spot for a special occasion. Delicious food, beautiful atmosphere.
What a lovely place to relax and enjoy a delicious lunch. I sat on the patio and people watched while I relaxed before heading out for the walk around the grounds.
Lovely location with great food and service for an affordable price. The wine list is spot-on with great price points. We were very impressed and will be back!
Server was no where to be found for most of the experience. He took the order and disappeared. The food was 6 stars! Wish the service could match the food.
Great service and food! Loved the atmosphere. Beautiful decor
This time we were disappointed. Our last visit in December was wonderful. This visit we arrived but the table wasn't ready. So, we opted to take the table out on the porch. We had to deal with flies and noise. However, the waiter was very pleasant. We ordered the Citrus crusted Salmon. I could tell the salmon was a good quality but was prepared wrong. The bread crumbs were wet and Soggy, the citrus sauce looked and tasted like flour and water mixed together with some lemon zest in it. My husband thought it was mashed potatoes on the salmon. The mashed potatoes were thick and cold. The creamy garlic spinach looked and tasted like a frozen box of spinach was put in the microwave and dumped on my plate without draining or seasoning. We have had many delicious meals there in the past. So, I would recommend the Mount Vernon to a friend with a warning. We did not complain at the time, it was our anniversary lunch, so we just left disappointed.
Mt. Vernon is a great place for happy hour. The food is very good and the service is outstanding. I am a local so it is always fun to strike up conversations with the tourists.
