   The food was delicious. I’ve been here before, but today the service was a little off. The hostesses let 3 different people cut in front of me during check in. Once we were sat, we frequently had empty glasses of tea for over 5 minutes. The orders came out without any of the special requests—a kids meal came out without any fruit instead of fries, an entree came out with sweet potatoes instead of mashed, and bbq sauce was missing from a grilled chicken sandwiche/fries request. It was all corrected about 10 minutes after the order came (well the fries instead of fruit never was), but I’ve had significantly better service before at this restaurant. I would still recommend for the food and atmosphere. I believe this is an anomaly which is why I gave 4 stars

   When we visit historic/tourist locations we make it a point to ‘lower our bar’ on food expectations- what a relief to have such a lovely lunch at the Mount Vernon Inn- We ‘slid’ in with a Last minute reservation (definitely make reservations, even if you do so once you arrive on site ) and were well served for the meal— A perfect escape from the masses of groups that can be a part of touring Mount Vernon (nothing wrong with groups- but crowds are best in small doses for us)- I just had a burger and fries - but darn if it wasn’t the best burger I have had in a while , complete with an ACTUAL slice of gorgeous cheddar and a thick tomato (where have all the tomatoes gone?) I had the okra as an appetizer- and boy was it excellent: I felt guilty not trying more traditional entrees- the selection is impressive. I would go back multiple times to try the menu items. Worth the investment in planning and $$-

   There were two visible mouse/rat bait boxes in the main dining room which was disturbing/disgusting.

   Memorable experience! Crab cakes were amazing. Butternut squash soup the best. Turkey Pot Pie incredible. 6'Dia biscuit, 3" high covered with delicious turkey pot pie filling. Toasted goat cheese salad terrific.

   Love the new diet codes on menu. I have severe restrictions and easily found 2 options (there were more) that I really enjoyed.

   The service is always good, the wait staff is friendly, helpful, and efficient, and the food is always yummy and affordable. A great place to dine for everyday as well as an occasion.

   First to visit to Mount Vernon and wanted to eat dinner at the restaurant. The restaurant is very quaint. Although the structure was built over 100 years after the original Mount Vernon, according to the host, the structure retains a historical feel. Our waitress was very polite, friendly, and checked in on us frequently. We had the shrimp and grits, turkey pot pie, crab cakes dinner, and fricassee. Everything had a hearty texture to it, bold flavors, and we definitely did not leave hungry. It was a great ending to our first tour at Mount Vernon. Highly recommend combining your visit with lunch or dinner afterwards.

   Service was very good. Prices are high for average food. The turkey pot pie was only warm when served, not much turkey. Others had salads which seemed a better value.

    Our waiter was very attentive. My granddaughter said that the grilled cheese was the best she had even eaten and she is one fussy child!!
