Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant

The desserts were homemade, probably the highlight.
Food was good but small servings for way overpriced food.
The charm of the Inn is unique and quaint with the colonial feel you would expect. For the price of the meal I would have expected a higher quality product. I spent 100 for 3 people. We had reservations but The service was just flat terrible, but we could have just gotten a bad waiter. If you’re in the area on vacation it’s worth giving it a try.
EXCELLENT DINING EXPERIENCE
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the Mount Vernon experience. I had the stuffed meatloaf, my wife the pork roll. Both were great choices. The Heath Bar Cheese cake was decadent!
I thought we were a bit rushed, and I was disappointed that you no longer had the Mount Vernon bottled beer.
Overall, we were thoroughly satisfied.
Excellent service and delicious food.
We had the soup sampler and salmon with roasted Brussels sprouts. Everything was very good and tasted fresh.
We had several questions for our server and he was knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. Our food was delivered on what we considered a good timetable. The prices at the Inn are reasonable consist the quality of the food and location.
Server made a few mistakes. But very crowded but long wait. Bread board unsatisfactory. Miss the bread/ muffin/ cracker basket
Great ambiance. Quiet for conversation. Shrimp and Grits were great. Highly recommend them and the duck. Peanut soup was a great surprise and the cheese cake was more than we could share.
As usual we had a great time and great food at the Mount Vernon Restaurant. We all tried a couple of cocktails. I especially liked the spiced cider! We had Hoecakes for the appetizer which was fabulous. One of us had the salmon and really enjoyed it. I stuck with my old standby of peanut soup and 1/2 a club made with a wonderful Virginia ham. Always a pleasure to eat here because of the great food and service!
Mt Vernon is one of my favorite places to take guests when visiting the DC area- and the Mt Vernon Inn Restaurant is my favorite place to take those guests for lunch. The servers are very attentive, the food is excellent, and the setting is a relaxing, comfortable.
Love the food
Loved everything I ordered
Lovely setting, great service, good food. Get the peanut chestnut soup. A nice place to take out of town guests.
The service was excellent. The servers were kind and intelligent. I appreciated the time they took with my young son on his choices for dinner:)
Never disappointed. Food is very good, reasonable for a fine dining establishment and plentiful. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit. If it we're closer to my house I would be there more often.
Excellent staff . We were greeting by a pleasant hostess which set the tone for a leisurely lunch for friends. Wait staff also pleasant ,knowledgeable and efficient.
Couldn’t tell by menu selections if trying to keep colonial theme or latest trends in the restaurant scene.
Enjoyed a wonderful lunch during a friend’s recent visit. As always, the food, service and cozy ambiance was impeccable!
We really enjoyed our visit. Excellent service. Very good food.
Our waitress, Elsie, was wonderful. We ordered the Mt. Vernon wine which was fabulous; Nice medium bodied red. We enjoyed our appetizers of fried green tomatoes and butternut squash soup. The market fish was rockfish, which was ordered blackened and was absolutely fabulous. The pork shank was also ordered. Very tender but a little bland. We finished with apple pie, which was also fantastic.
Great new menu. Great service!
Mount Vernon Inn is one of my favorite places. It was my birthday and the food was wonderful and varied enough that as a varied family group there was a choice for everyone. We had my toddler granddaughter with us and the staff was very engaging with her. The wine was great and I was given a lovely bread pudding for desert. Thank you!
Hostess staff was disorganized and slow. Otherwise service was okay and food was good.
I really like this gem of a neighborhood restaurant. It’s always a great place to meet friends. Food has always been good and nicely presented.
The Inn was closed on the day And at the time I made the reservation. Yet Open Table took the reservation and no notification was ever sent that it was closed!!! We were VERY disappointed. You all had the nerve to chastise us for not showing up at a reservation but the truth was we were confused by the system and they, the restaurant, said we made it for a different location and they could not cancel it..... this was Sarahbeths Your system needs improvement.
Mt. Vernon Inn is everything it's cracked up to be. Our only disappointment was that the fireplaces weren't lit despite the room being chilly and the outdoor temps in the upper 30's. Wait staff was excellent.
our first time at Mt Vernon Inn. The hostess an elderly lady with white hair. created a mess with our reservations we were a party of 4 under the reservation .. our 2 family members arrived first and she sat them on the last dinner room.. when I checked in with another hostess an african american lady she sat us as requested near the wood fireplace. the white hair lady never communicated to the other hostess that our party was there.. then she came to our table and created more confusion. Communication between hostess is the key. Once everything was settle.. we had a wonderful waiter Hector.. we ordered tomatoe bisque seems good.. and I ordered the butternut squash soup needed more seasoning. Entrees we ordered 2 fried chicken was the best, 1 filet mignon was good and 1 prime rib didn't come as medium rear. Dessert we ordered 2 cheese cakes (special for the night) were good and the kind waiter brought us the heart red velvet as a gift was extremely dry. We'll be back for the fried chicken and hopefully we'll have the same waiter Hector.. we live in Old Town so it is a good place to go.
Cozy environment, off the beat and path of DCs normal stomping grounds.
The food was delicious and the service was great. It’s a very special experience to dine at Mt Vernon.
Food was very good. Parking is accessible. The place is great
I was very underwhelmed with the restaurant. It could be amazing but I feel like it was poorly run. We had a table right next to the kitchen door and more than once, I heard the servers dropping f-bombs LOUDLY while they were heading in and out of the door. Our server was AMAZING, but she seemed to be the only one there taking her job seriously. Everyone else was walking around laughing, joking, not paying attention to the diners. The chef (I assume?) at one point appeared at our table with a goofy grin on his face, looked at our plate and said, "It's good, right?!" It really wasn't that good, but what were we supposed to say to that? Won't be going back. :(
We reserved for the 15th to avoid the whole Valentine’s Day cattle call that we have experienced in the past. I was very disappointed to discover that they were continuing their Valentine’s Day fixed menu on Friday and further when we were seated in the auxiliary dining area. The Inn is my wife’s favorite local restaurant but the experience was poorer than we have experienced in the past. I’m not sure we will be back for a while.
I was very disappointed when I booked this reservation I asked for a quiet table. We were placed in the room next to the bar by the doors. And from where we were at we could see the red room (wallpapered) was almost empty. The food was good but again we couldn’t really hear each other very well. I believe that the attention is made in consideration of the server rotation instead of the clients request. This was our return visit from December when again I asked for a quiet table to celebrate my wife’s birthday and we were placed in the bar area on the night of the teachers tour of Mt Vernon- which was very loud. My wife had called to inform you of that night and was given a gift card for this visit. We have had a very stressful few months due to our daughter’s car accident back in November and both times had hoped for a quiet night together and we we let down. I suggest in the future that your hostess and management pay more attention to your guests requests.
Great food & lovely atmosphere- elegant without being pretentious. Our waitress, possibly new, wasn’t super knowledgeable about the menu, but compensated for being pleasant & attentive.
Definitely disappointed that the Valentine's Day menu was very limited. I didn't realize that or I would have made reservations at another restaurant for the occasion. My husband stated his meal was fine. Mine not so: my steak was medium rare at one end and then rare at the other end and the mashed potatoes were luke-warm. My desert of white chocolate cheesecake had a crust that was so thick it was hard to cut through and not much cheesecake filling.
I will return but not for a holiday meal with their limited /special menus.
We had an early dinner at Mount Vernon and found the crowd to be minimal, the staff attentive, and the food fantastic
We were there during off season and for lunch. Excellent service, bartender came over to confirm drink preference and waiter was very attentive. Food and drink were excellent and priced reasonably.
This is a nice opportunity to have pretty good food in a quaint atmosphere - log fires in warm hearth feels very inviting in winter and there was no rush or hassle. Not sure why we couldn’t get a later reservation online because tables were definitely available so maybe worth a call to confirm availability. Some items were a little pricy for what you got, but not bad overall... you’re paying for atmosphere and the unique setting.
Lovely historical venue with surprisingly reasonable prices and good food.
Liked showing off Mt Vernon Inn to my old friends... they were excited to try it. They had been to the estate before but not the Inn and Gift Shop. Fun!
We sat in the small room with the fireplace and the ambience was great. We’ve been here a dozen times or so since we only live 10 minutes away. I had the Jambalaya and my wife had the Salmon. Both were very good. Not the best ever but very good. The sides that went with the salmon were less than lukewarm, my guess is the warmer wasn’t on in the kitchen. The jambalaya was fair. Lots of rice with probably 6 pieces of sausage and maybe 4 or 5 shrimp.
Did not have GW Madeira.
