What Insiders Are Saying
Mott Street, a restaurant on Ashland near Wicker Park, serves interesting, delicious Asian-influenced food.
All of the food was amazing and presented very well. They had very interesting flavor combinations and textures. They don’t do anything for you if it’s a special occasion(no free dessert or anything).
Honestly I have never written a yelp review until tonight. NYE 2018 we choose a restaurant that's been on our list for a while. There was suppose to be a fixed menu as well as the standard menu. We were never even given the option to order from the fixed menu, so we figured they scratched that idea. Until we were done and heard a different waiter offer the fixed menu to the table next to us claiming it as a great deal. We came here for the fixed menu we saw online for the 10 entrees. Instead we ordered 6 different small plates and were asked to order all at once. Have never been to a small plate restaurant where they requested that we order all at once. That's half the fun of small plate restaurants, to order as you go. Had 6 very mediocre small plates. In the end still very hungry with no option to order more. The service was horrible. From the hosts to our waiter, they all seemed bitter to be working on NYE and it showed. We didn't even get a happy New Years or a thank you as we left. Incredibly disappointing, and to spend a NYE there was even more disappointing. Definitely will never be returning.
Love Mott Street, the food and service are wonderful and not ordinary. Ask for Nathan, he is delightful!
Courses came it way too fast. Food was good though.
The value and price of the meal did not match. There’s nothing about my experience that would make me want to come back or recommend this place especially with all the great restaurant options we have in Chicago.
Amazing food with great flavor would highly recommend to anyone looking for tremendous food experience.
Overall just an okay experience. The one major pitfall was our server who repeatedly and blatantly tried to upsell, mentioning most patrons find they need to order 3 or more menu items to feel satisfied. This would’ve been fine but patronizing us after we decided upon our order was not cool. Our group consisted of 4 adult women. We know our appetites better than some server who’s never met us and would’ve appreciated more autonomy in the experience. Moreover, what we did order proved to be more than satisfactory after-all. Opinions are fine but save the lecture please! Aside from our individual server, the wait staff and food itself were great. The unique but uncomplicated flavor combinations and beautiful presentation made for a thrilling dining experience.
Everything was just so-so. Not bad, just not that good. We were "underwhelmed."
Ambience was great. Some of the dishes were hit or miss. Empanadas were delicious, the soup was great and the bone marrow was a great variation on a simple dish. Unfortunately, the pork belly sisig was so salty we couldn’t eat it and the shrimp was just OK. Service was great.
Worst customer service experience in my life. Waste of time and energy to visit. Never seen such horrific customer service.
Not a quiet little spot. Instead kind of ruckus freewheeling atmosphere. We sat at a long table with dates on either side. Fun young ambiance. Small plates keep coming. Great wait staff!
Loved the Mott burger - a classic cheese burger with hints of Asian cuisine. Reminded me of bulgogi. The other dishes my friend and I ordered came out very quickly but were below room temperature instead of being warm/hot. We had originally planned on ordering 2 rounds of food depending on the portion size but were discouraged from doing so by our wait staff. Even though the need for quick turnaround to be able to accommodate lots of customers is understandable, we still felt rushed/ultimately decided against ordering more food despite realizing the portion sizes were smaller than anticipated
Excellent food and service, but prices are a little out of line with its location on the edge of wicker park.
I went there for the second time, and it was just as good as the first. My sister and I went for a special sake dinner, where they had a 5-course meal, each paired with a different sake. Our server was so friendly and energetic. We got an explanation about each sake by the professional before each pour.
The food was delicious. My favorite was the mussels hot pot. The mussels were huge and so soft, so cooked perfectly.
I went for the Sake dinner. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Would recommend to anyone.
I've been here many times, and I always find something new to love about this place. I went for brunch this time, and everyone's food was outstanding. The burger is one of the best in the city, and is a must get. My friend got the fried rice and it was SO delicious and savory and really tasty. We also had some cocktails and wine that were delicious. Our server helped us pick out things, so I'd totally recommend asking and trusting their recommendations!
The food was delicious with authentic flavors. The burger delivered. Nice bright space and great brunch spot.
We've been a number of times and the food is always outstanding! Love it!
Mott Street never disappoints. We typically come here for the burger (served at bar for dinner hours) and the mango sticky rice. The burger has the right Asian flair and the mango sticky rice is unparalleled (even compared to my travels in Thailand). I would also recommend from their brunch menu the kalbi and eggs. The eggplant Benedict leaves a little something to be desired. Overall, Mott Street is one of my favs in the city.
They're known for their burger, but I was actually really impressed by the Freeman Torta. The salmon belly pastrami in that was awesome. Probably my new favorite brunch in Chicago.
Literally cannot wait to visit Mott St. again. Everything from the drinks to dinner to service was just splendid. Was the perfect spot for a night out with friends. Highly recommend!
Great dining experience
All the food was fantastic. The Chinese broccoli in particular was quite good.
Went to Mott Street on a Saturday night. We got lucky and were able to make a last minute reservation for two at 8:15 p.m. It's not a huge place and is usually filled with people. We showed up but the table wasn't ready yet so we grabbed a drink from the bar while we waited. The drink list has a good selection and the food is always great. Since it's right across the street from me it can't get much easier. Definitely recommend.
Had a great experience. Charles helped us find and enjoy some great wines.
Excellent service, atmosphere and food! We were seated quickly upon arrival (with a reservation of course). Our server was very attentive and really helpful at giving us suggestions on how to structure our meal. He also made sure to double check a few items with the kitchen (my friend had a shellfish allergy). The arrival of the plates was nicely spaced and the food was a unique fusion of flavors. The space is great for a small party or a large party. I'd love to come back in the summer when they have their patio set up.
Great and unique Sunday brunch menu
Burger was excellent. Great brunch. Can't go wrong with anything you choose!
Food was good, but service disjointed. It was suggested we put our order in all together which we did. We were half way through cocktails trying to get attention to order wine when the first dish arrived. It would be ideal to have finished our cocktails with the wine on the table before / when the first dish arrives. Noise level was extremely high. Price was OK if the service was up to scratch. Not sure we’ll be back
Food was incredible and well portioned. Jessie, our server, was extremely intentive and kind. The same goes for the rest of the staff. Highly recommend.
Brazino - excellent
Burger - excellent
Ribs - very good
Wings - very good
Skewers - excellent
Brussels spouts - excellent
Gai lan - drown in oyster sauce, meh
Fried rice - don’t order it .. just a bowl of rice with a bit of seasoning - worst thing in the menu
Dirty rice (comes with the fish ) excellent
Service - great
We sampled a wide range of dishes and all were tasty. Kimchi empanadas, calimari and Chinese broccoli were especially good.. Good cocktails, too. Server was helpful in navigating the menu. Fun atmosphere but loud. Cost per item is not unreasonable but can add up quickly.
Amazing cocktails, burger and service:) can't wait to go back for the burger!
I was really excited about Mott St ever since it popped into my radar, since the executive chef is Asian and I love trying restaurants helmed by chefs of color. So I dragged my friend out of town to brunch while she was visiting Chicago. Unfortunately, we both found the meal pretty underwhelming.
We ordered the pork belly benedict, the black bean shrimps and grits, and the wok-fried gailan. My friend actually thought the wok-fried gailan was the best, which is a little disappointing, because it's basically just Chinese vegetables. I've had this but better and cheaper at other Chinese places. I felt much the same way though, the wok gailan had the most flavor of the three. The other two dishes were just kind of boring.
I love pork belly, but this one had nothing to distinguish it. It was pretty bland and the benedict was pretty basic. My roommate has made more flavorful pork belly.
The black bean shrimp and grits was basically mediocre grits and like four pieces of shrimp. I've had better grits at the countless other good soul food/southern places across the city.
All in all, the food was fine, but not really worth the money and/or hike to get here. I wanted to love it, and I might come back down the line and give their dinner menu a try / aka another chance. But for now, it's not for me. I also hate how close you are to other people - it's a little hard to have your own conversation when the two people next to you are discussing their future together, but I get that they want to fit more people.
The best thing about this place was the service. Super kind and friendly staff.
Liz was awesome. We were on the fence about the mango sticky rice, but she walked us through and it turned out to be great. Definitely enjoyed the entire experience. Will be coming back.
Great for brunch! The burger is a must! All items have a fun unique twist to keep things interesting.
I've been here a few times but recently as a group for brunch. Of course, their amazing burger was had all around and a few other gems, including the kimchi fried rice. But, what really stood out was the service. We went in for a reservation and there was a table that was lingering longer than anticipated by the staff. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes. The hostess was extremely apologetic. They sent a round of champagne for the table as well as 2 orders of those AMAZING pancakes to apologize. That alone, will make customers return! Thanks Mott Street!
We had a great time there. The food was fabulous and our server was helpful!
We went because of the burger, but discovered so many amazing items on the menu. A few notes about how to order the burger: it can always be ordered at the bar, but I can also be ordered from 6:00-7:00 PM anywhere in the restaurant or from 10:00-2:00PM at Sunday Brunch.
