Motor Supply Company Bistro
The food is always unique and delicious. Service was incredible, and the quaint space creates the perfect setting to celebrate with a few friends. Loved it!
The best place to eat in Columbia! We loved our food the other night. One minor snafu...I ordered the Strawberry Creme Brûlée, but was served the regular Creme Brûlée. I was offered a free dessert for the mistake. I really suffered through that regular Creme Brûlée!
This restaurant always meets your expectations. Service is excellent. Starters, entrees and desserts are great. Drinks in particular are very good. They are on our regular dining list.
The food was wonderful. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, but not intrusive.
Enjoyable evening, great food in a cool environment. Looking forward to my next visit
My son and his prom date were the ones who went and they absolutely loved it. My son doesn't even eat vegetables, but he said that even the vegetables were delicious 😄
Really excellent food! Responsive and very knowlegible service. A bit noisy.
Good food but went for the atmosphere and cool asthetic
We had the yellow tuna which was wonderfully prepared and the presentation was great. Next we had the scallops which also were excellently prepared and presented. Caulifleur mashed potatoes....AMAZING.
Mike our waiter, forgetful but quick on the pick up. Great personality made up for having to repeat our app order to him.
There was not much room between tables so we heard everyone's conversations which made it loud. In addition, when my date moved his chair back to get up, he bumped right into the back of a patron at the table behind him.
Food and service were real good too much background noise for my liking would not sit in the sunroom next time but we will go back.
Loved everything! The oyster salad was exceptional! Our waitress was so sweet. Learned a trick using tonic syrup from our great bartender. We were so excited to finally get reservations, while in town. However, the downside was the air conditioning in the atrium seating area made it so cold - by the time our entrees were served - I could not wait to go outside to warm up!
Delicious food, excellent service, our only complaint was the entrees came a little too fast, we were still enjoying our appetizers. I would highly recommend.
Top-notch farm-to-table establishment. Local ingredients, very fresh, and we were very pleased with the friendliness and service we received. My husband eats gluten-free, and our server told us the chef is very conscientious about what dishes have gluten in them and which do not. That was very helpful for the servers to get that knowledge. It’s a historic motor supply company so you get to appreciate the history of the town while you are eating. We’ll definitely return next time we visit.
We were seated right on time and our server was very friendly. The menu is limited but has an offering for all except they were out of the filet. Tables are very crowded and you have to be careful not to bump other guests on the way to your table.
1 at our table of 4 was served the wrong meal, when they went to prepare his correct order they were then out of the Wreck Fish he had ordered as well. He chose the flat iron steak after seeing mine and when his came the cut of meat was very different than what I was served.
Overall the Wreck Fish that my son got, the pork chop another had and my steak were all tasty but, for the price the portions leaves a lot to be desired. Scallops were great but way overpriced for 2 scallops. The Spanish Octopus was chewy and flavorless, not a favorite of any at the table.
Although the waiter was apologetic and offered my husband desert for their mistake, he does not eat sweets so, he declined with thanks.
I was surprised his meal was not discounted at all after what he went through and then eating alone since we were all done.
This was my second disappointing visit so, we won’t be back.
Always a winning choice! Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful waitstaff attentive to the needs of the table. Food was delicious, prepared well and served quickly.
Motor Supply has consistently exceeded expectations with creative dishes, cocktails and superb service. It is one of my favorite restaurants. Keep it up.
Great experience. One of the best meals we've had in a while and our waitress Stephanie was phenomenal.
Southern Living has just discovered something that some of us have know for 25+ years...Motor Supply Company is awesome. You can rely on excellent consistency in their farm to table originals. The service staff is great too! Stephanie was on her game for us and knew all the details of the menu selections. Thanks for another great evening and congrats, again, for your “best of South” award from SL (even though we already knew it!). See you soon!
Absolutely fantastic meal, 3rd time visiting, I've been impressed every time!
Although food was good , 1st choice - quail appetizer and Dinner -Pork Chop I believe was over priced . I enjoy your restaurant but please don’t price yourself out of all your regular long term customers.
Just a wonderful experience with the freshest local sourced ingredients. This is a must try place.
Always a great experience. We have a son in school at USC and like to eat here when we visit. This time we had a table of 7. I can’t remember the servers name but she was great- friendly and efficient! I had to change the reservation from 6 to 7 the day of the dinner. The person who made the change was very friendly and easily made the change. This restaurant is just always a pleasure!!
PS plan to valet- no need to stress about parking!!
We have been to Motor Supply many times and thoroughly enjoy the dining experience. Both entrees of shrimp and cowboy ribeye were wonderful along with the cheese board appetizer. We will be back when we get back to Columbia.
All interactions with employees were good ones. Courteous and helpful. Table area is a little tight and needs to be opened up some so you are able to get in and out of your table with out disrupting the other table.
Overall excellent place to eat and I will go again in the near future and would send new people there.
Went here for my best friend's 21st birthday and the food, drinks, and service were great like they always are!
Food and service were excellent. We all had seafood dishes, halibut and shrimp and clams. All were nicely prepared and delicious. Even the 10 year old with us loved the tomato bisque soup and cheese sandwich.
menu great but limited. wait staff very attentive. food was outstanding.
Hands down, one of the best restaurants in Columbia. Only reason for 4 stars is that my partner's fillet was undercooked and the bread for the cheese board was so hard that I almost broke a tooth on it. Their Master's Martini was the absolute best martini I have ever had !!
Food is always great, I've never been disappointed.
The Masters menu was slim pickings. We didn’t think they were great options. It’s definitely not as good as it used to be.
I fear that my expectations may have been too high based on the recent accolades. Overall it was a good experience and I was pleased that the server acknowledged my husband's birthday as I had listed it on the Opentable reservation. DH really enjoyed the "cowboy" ribeye special and listed it in the top few steaks he's had. My halibut was topped with a small, deliciously flavored shrimp but wasn't seasoned especially well otherwise despite the tomato bisque poured over. Our server was very polite but did not refill my tea at all.
One of our favorite places. Our last experience was disappointing. Poor service and did not care for Masters Menu.
Very disappointed in the food and Masters Week menu. We always look forward to eating at Motor Supply when we are in town for the tournament. They really missed the mark this year. When we asked for bread our waiter said they don’t routinely serve bread since there is so much waste.
The bread unfortunately was the highlight of the meal. A teaspoon of crab on the crab salad and 3 mini asparagus spears for $18, a bouillabaisse in undernourished broth, I could go on....
One of the nicer restaurants in Columbia, SC. The food is very good, the tables are a little closer together than I would prefer. Service was good, at times a little slow to remove dirty plates. I have been short poured on wine in the past so I avoid wine glass pours and stick to cocktails.
First time visiting Columbia and we decided to celebrate our 3rd anniversary dinner at Motor Supply, based on a friend’s recommendation. Reservations were made via Open Table and I received a confirmation phone call from the restaurant a few hours before our time. They had taken note of my anniversary mention and said they hoped they would help our celebration be extra special. Nice touch. We arrived and were seated within 5 minutes. Beautiful ambience, crowded at 9:00 on a Saturday— nearly every table was occupied. The service was superb. We were wished a happy anniversary by our server, who suggested some cocktails. They were yummy. I had a blackberry and green salad, we shared a cheese board, and then we had wine with our entrees. I was pleased by the selection. My husband had an incredibly delicious steak that was served at the perfect medium rare. I enjoyed shrimp and grits with the freshest okra and sweet peas. Truly delicious food. We were offered a a dessert or Prosecco on the house for our anniversary, which was a lovely touch. What a delightful dining experience! Highly recommend! A+
Was very disappointed in the service we received at the restaurant this weekend. Also the restaurant was out of stock of an item that was on your menu. Your waiter suggested that we substitute with a ribeye. Which we took his advice and order that as a substitute. The bill came and it was way more then the Price of your fillet. When the waiter offered it as a substitute we did not know that he was going to be a up charge for the complete price of the ribeye. The communication between the waiter and our table was extremely rude.
We are regular customers at motor supply and this was very disappointing.
I was underwhelmed at Motor Supply this past weekend. The appetizers were good but majority of the entrees we ordered at our table were just okay. One of our friend's steak was cold, my shrimp and grits were relatively bland and not that hot either. I had really high expectations because I had heard so many wonderful things but we all left wanting a little bit more.
The service was awesome but the food was not what i would expect from a chef. Not sure the chef tastes the food before its served or is on a high horse and thinks that food is great and doesnt get an opinion of others. I was asked to try something else but after having a bad appetizer and a main course i wasnt interested in trying anything else on the menu. i might come back depending on the menu changing to something that is actually edible.
Fried oyster appetizer was so, so, especially for the price. Main courses much better, although a little pricey. Very good, pleasant service (Melissa) and staff was very attentive to our need to eat and run to a show. Overall very nice dinner experience, but bill was about 15% higher than I would have expected.
