Moti Mahal Delux
The signature “Butter Chicken”, has come to be known as one of the most renowned dishes in the world. “Tandoori Chicken”, "the most eye opening item to come out of the oven" is the legacy of the Moti Mahal restaurant chain. “Daal Makhani”, or “Kaali Daal”, is "deeply, truly luxurious" and here at Moti Mahal Delux, can make you go "wobbly with happiness". Another Moti Mahal Delux signature is the Masala, a fragrant curry prepared with a choice of goat brain, crab, chicken or shrimp.
This sophisticated and upscale restaurant with a "comfortable modern dining room" and "attentive and courteous" service offers a one of a kind Mughlai fine dining experience.
Great food in a small space with not incredibly attentive service but reasonable prices
It's OK if you are in the neighborhood. Amazing lamb chops. Otherwise just OK. Have eaten here several times, and this review reflects an overall opinion of the restaurant
very disappointed . We used to eat at Moti Mahal a lot. On this visit we found the quality of the food is no longer as high as it was when they opened the restaurant. Not one dish was up to par. Sad.
Absolutely delicious food, served well, in a lovely atmosphere.
We went to Modi Mahal after seeing the recommendation on the Michelin Guide. The first thing that struck was was that this is no `Mahal' (palace). The setting is quite pedestrian - and the ambience comparable to any mid-tier restaurant. The overall set up was rather underwhelming. The food was excellent overall - the mutton curry, Daal Makhani, the appetizers we tried, the desserts - were all excellent, not exceptional.
Overall, the best part of the visit was the service. The servers were polite, prompt and highly knowledgeable. The came to the table multiple times to check on us - and were quite friendly. In conclusion, if you want pretty decent Indian food, this is a place to try - if you don't mind the relatively humble settings. I do recommend giving it a try.
It was not up to par
Excellent food specially the Tandoori appetizers ( Anardana chicken, lamb chops, tandoori chicken and fish Anardana ) . Entres ordered were delicious. Ambience was very good & Service was Excellent. The food they serve is worth every dollar.... I highly recommend this place for all those who have a good taste .
The best palak paneer and kali dal in NY. I also like their chicken reshmi kabab and chicken biryani. The rasmalai was soft and has the right amount of sweetness. All in all a really solid Indian restaurant.
The service was excellent and that helped as well!
We ordered Daal Makhani, Paneer Makhani and Baigan dish.
All of them were delicious!
Very nice. Food v good and quiet table as requested. Mint paratha excellent as was dal mahlkani and bhindi
Great food - nice way to spend a Sunday lunch!
The food was poorly done. The tanduri fish was over spiced and too salty. The chicken was overcooked, poorly marinated and burnt . The butter chicken was also over cooked.
I had been to this restaurant a while ago and the food was delicious. I would not recommend it anyone looking for good Indian food!!
Excellent black lentil!
Coworkers had built up our expectations, and unfortunately, the meal didn’t meet these expectations.
It was the best Indian food we’ve ever had.
Food was cold and lamb meet was dry.Was one of the more disappointing visits at Indian restaurants here in NYC!
Dined at Moti Mahal on Mother's Day with my family and it was wonderful. The food is one of the best Indian food I've had in NYC thus far. The place is cozy and comfortable and the service was great. Even my picky 15 year old loved it!
Excellent food and service. However our dining experience was affected by the two tables adjacent to ours with infants and toddlers screaming and being loud & unruly. Not the restaurant’s fault but I blame the inconsiderate parents. If your children can’t behave in a civilized manner in public, then hire a baby sitter! If the parents can afford to eat at this restaurant then they definitely can afford a sitter for a few hours.
food was great.....really enjoyed...butter chicken delish!
Always excellent service, attentive staff and the best food!
The food was delicious 😊
The food was excellent
This place is atrocious.
Great service and food. We got there close to closing time and they did a great job of accommodating us.
Tasty Butter Chicken, but unfortunately skimpy tandoori chicken & mango chutney with no fruit in it, just mango flavored liquid. That was disappointing but hopefully easy to fix on the restaurant's part. Also, the naan bread was nothing special. It should have come straight from the oven to the table. Would still return to this restaurant because I hope they'll fix these little details.
Great ambiance, excellent service. We dined early to make a 7p.m. play and had no trouble. The curried lentils were flavorful and the naan was cooked perfectly (I tire of the places that serve flat and burned naan). Good prices for a quick evening meal.
An hour wait with a reservation.
Food quality average
Bad overall experience
The food is amazing! Recommend the buffet, definitely worth every penny.
This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Charmingly cozy although the noise level can be distracting at times. Service was very responsive but never obtrusive. The food was delicious- on par with similar Indian restaurants priced much higher. The beverage menu was a bit limited (no cocktails?) but very suitable for the cuisine. I would recommend this place highly and would definitely return again!
Food and service has gone done. My family has visited for many years and there is lack to attention to detail. The service was delayed - they forgot our drinks. Bread came 10 mins after the food. All led to a poor experience. We paid over $300 for the meal. This should not happen at a top rated Resturant for an expensive dinner out.
$8 for beer is way too much. The food was good but I have eaten better. Portions for vegetable dishes are too small for the price and too expensive to begin with. Overall, pleasant but not remarkable.
Good is good but service was terrible
Great food at a great value. but they gave away our reservation. They never called during the day, though i made a reservation night before. They claimed to call me at 6:30, when I was on the subway to the restaurant, in order to confirm my 7pm reservation. However, the food is great. The table service is good, but could use some improvement. I would return here again, but never again in a group, as they simply cannot seem to accommodate groups well - as I was leaving a I saw another group waiting outside with the same exact complaint.
Tasteless food. Such a shame. Need to use more spices. Don't be afraid, you are adjusting too much to please foreign customers.
Moti Mahal is my favorite restaurant in the city. I love the service! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
An enjoyable evening - very good food and pleasant ambience. Would have preferred Indian rather than American pop music.
Food tasted amazing but there were small portions and it took a long time for us to get seated even with a reservation.
We love the restaurant but made the mistake of going on Valentine’s Day. One should never eat out on Valentines Day. It took over an hour to get our after we ordered. And the food was not up to its usual quality. A very disappointing meal.
Although the food was great, the waitress who served us had zero people skills and was very passive aggressive and ruined our experience at this restaurant.
