We went to Mother Anna’s on our first trip to Boston and loved it. It was a Saturday night and we made a reservation which I would say was a must. We enjoyed shrimp scampi for appetizer along with a nice bottle of Malbec. For dinner we had the gnocchi Juliana, lobster ravioli and baked ziti. All our us loved our meal! Had a nice Tirimisu and coffee for dessert and the night was complete. On downfall came at the end of the dinner when we wanted our check and we could not get our waitress to come back and give it to us. It was very busy so we gave her the benefit of the doubt but it was frustrating to sit for an extra 20 minutes or so when we were ready to go. That, however, would not keep us from going back to this great place!
FOOD WAS GREAT EVEN THE NEXT DAY! PLACE IS BUSY BUT WORTH IT. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE OUTDOOR SEATING!
Mother Anna's is our usual stop when we visit Boston three or four times a year. It never disappoints.
I absolutely recommend Mother Anna's. Great location, great menu, and great service. Make reservations. This is a must. However, we arrived half an hour early and we're seated within minutes.
My wife had last eaten at Mother Anna's many years ago. I was joining her for a return and my own first time during a weekend together in Boston. With a 5:45pm Saturday reservation they were packed and frantic. All four empty water glasses on our table were dirty (one with lipstick) and they were replaced without question. The atmosphere is average. That all was underwhelming, but from there the service was efficient and food was terrific. A busy night in the North End. We my go back some day but not until trying many other places.
I don't know why this place has such mixed reviews. I came here on Valentine's Day with a friend and everything was perfect. We got the mussels, which were some of the best I have EVER had. We also split the gnocchi and chicken parm/eggplant parm combo, which were delicious and each took home two meals worth of leftovers. Portions are huge, prices are totally reasonable and the wine is also reasonably priced. Not the fanciest of places inside, but 5 stars on food from me.
Mother Anna's is always a great place to eat! The food is always consistent, the servers are pleasant, and the food comes up quick. We always want to try something new...and we always end up back at Mother's!
second visit... both 5 stars! We were late for our reservation... they were very professional and understanding and were able to hold the table!
Great ambiance. Listening to Andrea Boccelli while eating gnocchis and drinking DOCG wine made for an amazing date. Comfort food at an authentic place. You go for good food and wine, not for a lavish experience, though the authenticity of a hearty meal is an experience of its own.
We dined at Mother Anna's on New Years Eve. Found a table on OpenTable with very short notice. Got seated right at the time of the reservation despite the place being full. Food was excellent, service was excellent considering the place was packed full. Can't wait to come back to this spot!
I have walked by this restaurant for probably 35 years, never noticing it. Then through Open Table I’ve found Morher Anna’s. We arrived on time for our reservation. However it took quite a while to get seated. Once seated, we put an order in for wine. It took a little while for that to come. However once it arrived, it needed to stay in the next room because there was no room near our table for the ice bucket.
We ordered gnocchi in red sauce and veal parmascian with linguine. We also had two garden salads. The garden salad was, not good. In the middle of the salad was a scoop of green beans that looked like canned beans. They were over cooked and then cooled. It otherwise ruined the salad. I recommend asking that they not put the beans on the salad or try a Caesar.
The entrees were fine. Unremarkable. The tomato sauce was fairly tasteless. Neither good or bad. That said the veal was very tender and enjoyable. The gnocchi was fine as well.
This restaurant was passable. We’d go back if we couldn’t find some place else.
food was delicious and the staff were kind and prompt
The food was very good but parking is next to nothing available unless you get lucky for street parking. It took over 20 minutes to find an a garage with space available.
7 out of 7 of us loved our meals. It was quiet on a freezing cold Saturday afternoon, but service was great as was the food. We were actually surprised at just how good. Will definitely be back.
I am a long time fan of Mother Anna’s. I now live in Washington DC but try to make a visit here any chance I get. The food and the service are great. We had a fun family holiday dinner on Tuesday evening and best of all was we got to enjoy the leftovers the next evening - the portions are huge. Lobster fettuccine and chicken creation are family favorites!
Overall experience was outstanding ! Service was impeccable - even with our large party of 10. Food was delicious and plentiful !! It was a very special evening. Will most definitely return to Mother Anna's.
Family-owned Mother Anna's has been offering home-style, familiar Italian dishes for over 50 years, and continues its long tradition of friendly service and warm atmosphere. At out latest visit, the waitress was terrific in getting some in our party's complicated choices and dish-sharing right, and with a smile. One of us had what we believe was a new addition to the menu-- shrimp baked in cheese. Superb! We'll continue to make Mother Anna's our "local," our North End favorite.
A family night on the town for 10 of us that was just perfect to celebrate the holidays! Fabulous food and wonderful service.
came in for a Christmas dinner and everyone loved the food. Prices great also.
great afternoon out in boston, first time trying out this restaurant and was not disappointed, the food was excellent, we did make reservation, which I would recommend because the place is small, waitress was excellent , we did not feel rushed to leave, everything was excellent, will definitely be going back
Awesome great place great food
I didn't like the food. The food didn't have much taste.
There are so many good restaurants in the North End, there is no reason for me to go back there. I have been to many restaurants in the North End and have never tried Mother Anna's which has been around for many years. Well, I tried it. Would not recommend it.
Excellent food. I have been coming here for years and the food is always consistent and the servers are always attentive. Highly recommend going there and having their eggplant rollatini appetizer!
Our last meal of our holiday love everything about this place, found it on our first visit to Boston 2009 and try and get a table every time we go back. Excellent
Great food- humongous portions! The gnocchi Juliana was outstanding! The waitstaff was very friendly and patient with our large group and three wiggly kids.
We celebrated two birthdays in the afternoon and spent a leisurely two hours telling stories and enjoying wonderful drinks and dinner. When we arrived the table was set and waiting. We had drinks, enjoyed an antipasto, and then ordered and enjoyed the meal. The food was delicious and we all felt right at home. This was the perfect place to enjoy each others company and a wonderful meal. I recommend.
A group of us who were in town for a wedding and decided to go out for an evening meal and Mother Anna's was recommended. Everything about the place told the story of a very busy restaurant that aimed to please.
The food was more than we could eat and everyone was thrilled with their selection. Our waitress was wonderful. We will definitely return.
First visited in 1958. Much is still the same. Love the antipasto! Sorry spumoni was not available. Had not been back in many years, left Boston in 1969. Happy to find something I remember. My companion had to consider the menu at length, and we were not rushed. Enjoyed seeing and hearing a large fraternity group, which I'm told visits regularly. When visiting the ladies room downstairs, wondered what you do about handicap accessible to facilities. Thanks mother Anna's for still being there ☺
Was seated in about 10 minutes so not bad. Bar is tiny!!! The food here is awesome. Service was very good. Only negative was we were seated in a basement room with no windows. Felt like a dungeon. From now on i will request table for main floor. Location is great too. Almost next door to modern pastry which was excellent for dessert.
great food and service.
everyone in our group loved it
This restaurant was recommended by a friend as we hadn’t been to the North End of Boston before. We went early to avoid crowds and the food was good. Salad was 90% lettuce (could have put more than 1 olive, 1 cuke slice & 1 tomato wedge). Bread was awesome but no pasta with parmigiana. View of Boston’s skyline was beautiful.
We had a reservation for 7:15 on a Saturday. It was very crowded and the host staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. Other people with reservations ahead of us were also frustrated. Staying on the staff we got seated in the basement ( not a bad thing) at 7:30. The food and the wait staff were both GREAT!! And by the we left after 8 there was no wait and more relaxed upstairs. So definetly go but consider a bit off prime time! Enjoy!
Service was great the waitress remembered that we had been there in Aug and waited on us again. The food was very good and tasty. We did not have to wait for a table. Even meet the manager Fabio who was great and could not do enough for our party of 4. All the meals were hot and tasty and plenty of food for the meal and the next nights dinner. We will be back again when in the Boston area. Thanks for a great dining experience
Casual, comfortable, excellent Italian menu, terrific location, reasonable prices, and good service.
Food was good however, we were seated in a side room next to the front door which was very noisy. Wait staff was excellent and food was very good. Food was hot when brought to our table.
Waitress wad incredibly patient and friendly with our large group, including 2 babies.
Excellent service. Delicious Italian food but excellent quality.
The most amazing Italian food I have ever had! I had the gnocci with seafood and it was incredible. We had a large group and although it was a small space they were able to accommodate, which was greatly appreciated.
Excellent service. Food was decent
Admittedly, it was a busy Saturday night crowd, but there was no room at the entrance for more than one party waiting to be seated and there were about four groups jammed in front of us all waiting. The hostess did not show for several minutes and we were not seated for our 7:15 reservation until about 25 minutes later than that. Our table was in the back - had to walk through the kitchen to get to it.
The food was OK at best - expected better. Service was mediocre. Ordered a bottle of wine and it did not come until after our meal had been served and we had to ask what happened to our wine - we were half finished with our meal when the wine arrived. Salad was served with no balsamic or oil and had to ask for those to be brought to the table. Waiter was friendly but not very effective.
With so many good Italian Restaurants in the area, our next trip to Boston we will try somewhere else.
