Morris Tap and Grill Ratings and Reviews
Went this past weekend for the first time since under new management and we were disappointed especially since this used to be such a reliable place for family with kids. It seems like the new management has opted for lesser quality ingredients in many of the menu options. Kids chicken which used to be a nice breaded thin chicken breast is now a stock frozen chicken finger like you get in a chain restaurant. The burgers didn’t seem the same with some changes noted on the type of bun and overall quality; A burger order which used to be a great burger with a small side of fries is now an ok burger with a plate heaping with fries.
Was hoping for something far better.
After reading the review in the special food section of the Bergen Recored that this was a restaurant not to be missed, we decided after being there, we should have missed it.
First, there is little ambiance. The atmosphere outside of the bar, which is very nice, is diner like. Now to the food and service.
We ordered drinks, (excellent beer selections), and our waitress told us that the kitchen was slow (a nice thing to do) and we said we were in no hurry so all was cool. Our drinks came and we ordered. A salad and a cup of onion soup. Both were very good. But we were not done with the appys and dinner came. So much for a slow kitchen and a leisurley meal. The short rib sandwich we good, but the fries would have been good if they were not cold. The mac and cheese was very dry and when we tried to get the attention of our server, she was so busy with the dessert cart that I was about done by the time we were able to send the mac and cheese back. On the return, it was a bit better, but not that good. We did not stay for dessert, but we did wonder why a Tap Room and Grill would have a dessert trolley.
All in all a big disappointment. Very disjointed service. Not so great atmosphere. And less than average food.
Steamers special appetizer was tasty but we expected more meat for the price. My entree (jerk chicken rice bowl) was delicious and filling. Drinks were phenomenal. We sat outdoors and were extremely pleased with how peaceful and pleasant the atmosphere was. Our server was great!
The menu had some nice options from bar bites to paella. The food was presented well and service was good. The noise level was quite high but I guess that is what one should expect from a "Tap and Grill", right? Desserts were fun and the specialty Sangrias were well done.
This was our second time here. The first time my fish came out like rubber and everyone else's dinner was cold. More recently, the server got my wife's order wrong. We ere offered a desert for free. I was not impressed with this resturant and won't be going back. There are way too many better choices in this area.
The chef was trained in NYC, and you could tell by the excellently prepared and creative items on the menu. This is a great surprise from what you might think to be just another sports bar like restaurant. I had the avocado salad and my friend had the avocado 'sandwich' (tuna poke inside two avocado halves. Absolutely delicious.
They have a good selection of beers, both draft and bottle, from local and international breweries. The only downside is that the noise volume inside can be very high, particularly if they have performers. Luckily for us, it was a lovely evening and we could sit outside.
We've been here a number of times before, but this visit, the restaurant (or our location) was particularly noisy. We were seated under an air vent so had cool air blowing on us. My dish was a fish with lots of sauce. I asked the server for bread and was told "bread doesn't come with that". Everyone else (3) at our table had burger-based meals served on rolls. That was pretty disappointing, especially given the size of the portion (small). The dish was delicious, but I definitely would have liked a roll to enjoy it with.
Everything was fine until the band started to play. We were in a different room from the band in the bar, but could no longer hear each other without yelling. It was actually painful to walk by the bar area when we were leaving. Food and drink were excellent, they just need better control over the volume the bands play at.
Fine example of the modern gastropub, excellent drinks and solid step-up from comfort food. Stellar beer menu with a couple of dozen varied and well selected options. Standout on the food menu is short ribs, which you can have a number of ways (e.g. appetizer, entrée, in a taco). Four trips to MT&G so far and the service was outstanding each and every time. Bar area is much more interesting than the back room; however on weekends there's usually a band to consider, unless you don't want to do much talking. This place checks all the boxes for great drinks and casual dining.
Great dinner and great service. Menu choices were excellent as was the food. A little noisy in our room as there was a private party right behind us! Jamison was an excellent server and we will certainly ask for her again. I have the mac and cheese and it was exceptional! My friend had an avocado and steak salad and that looked great. Unfortunately my husband had a medium well plain burger but it was well done and dry. He usually doesnt complain and he was hungry so he ate it! We had a nice evening.
Our server was great! The only thing she messed up was my friend asked for how many ounces the steaks were for the flat iron steak and the ny strip. Was told it was either 14 or 16oz so he was happy with that. The steak comes out and it was 8-10 oz at most. Other than that it was great. There was a band that night that got pretty loud in the dining room but it was still a great experience. I was unhappy about my meal but it was because of personal preference nothing against the chef or anyone
The menu looked very interesting and we were all looking forward to tasting the food. But after two hours we never received any food. The manager and wait staff were indifferent to us not getting our diner. I will never go back, we got better service at the diner across the street and the food was excellent
Excellent selection of beers -- as always. Food this time was all particularly excellent, 3 different dishes and each one was great. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Friday nights are a bit noisy and "energetic", but not to the point of intolerable if you are there for a quick family dining experience.
We come fairly often but make it a special occasion to eat here each year on our anniversary, since it used to have a more romantic setting in the dining area. Nice table cloths, low lighting, a small (refined) menu, more for adults. We had our first date here and I remember it being a classy place.
Now, it has a huge menu with a mish-mosh of things on it. That's great for the bar section, but this year on Valentine's Day, we found ourselves reminiscing about how it used to be. Don't get me wrong... the food was great and we love the craft beer selection for a normal date night out, but cut down on the menu "fluffers" (i.e., duck quesadillas) and we'll be sure to return for our next anniversary!
Our seats were a bit uncomfortable. The chairs padding was a bit too thin and the frame starting pressing in to the backs of thighs. By mid meal we were squirming around to try and get more comfortable. The table was pretty small as well. not much elbow room. The sangria was delicious as was the chips. The main course was OK, a little too sweet, I was expecting it to be a bit more savory. It didn't wow us, my wifes short rib sandwich tasted a little charred for her liking.
