Morimoto Ratings and Reviews
Great atmosphere here. We tried quite a few different things here and most were very good. The ramen was delicious- the broth quite tasty and comforting. The hamachi crudo was also delicious and fresh. The dumplings were delicious. The duck duck duck was the best entree we had in our group. Waitor was attentive, efficient, but not overly friendly. Bar tender was very nice and our cocktails were very refreshing!
Great restaurant for sushi and Japanese food. Very cool interior with lots of glass and wood and lights changing the background and the mood every quarter hour. Each of the sushi dishes were presented very attractively and, most importantly, were delicious, as was the unique dessert.
The service is beyond the usual. There will always be someone around if you even look as if you need something. If you turn your head and you have a half full glass, by the time you turn back around it is full. They cater to you and to be honest that great service alone was enough to make it worth the money we paid. We sat at the bar area and watch the chefs "create" everyone's food. I loved the passion the chef's had for what they were doing, especially the head chef! He was beyond excellent and very clean, he seemed as if he could have done his job with his eyes closed, very talented. My boyfriend and I visit once a year to treat ourselves, and would recommend to anyone! Go see for yourself! :)
I had an excellent experience at Morimoto. The service was amazing and the food even more amazing. I had the seasonal omakase, and it was worth every penny. It felt like I was a judge at an Iron Chef contest. The food selections were varied, portions for each course were generous, and the food was cooked to perfection (don't miss the octopus! Melts in your mouth). Highly recommended. Although I'm not a big fan of downtown Philadelphia, if I ever have to come back to the city I will definitely eat here again.
Food is very good. Wait staff is attentive and receptive to special needs (like insuring food allergies are not compromised by mystery ingredients). The structure of the room and the open dining room make for a very loud room. It was nearly impossible to hear the waiter unless directly next to her. Conversations across our booth we're constantly lost by the room noise. The food makes it worth coming once but the horrible noise makes it unlikely we will return.
From the moment we walked in, the service was impeccable. My husband and I went for lunch while in Philadelphia for the day. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and saki selection. The food - delicious. We ordered a roll and sashimi as appetizers then hot lunch plates. Definitely an experience and will certainly return.
I went here for my friend's birthday and the experience was perfect. Everything from the food to the service, it couldn't of been any better. The server was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. The food came out in a timely manner and multiple different servers clearer our dirty dishes within seconds of us finishing up. Overall Amazing experience!!
We were disappointed by Morimoto, especially by the service. For such an expensive meal in such a grand space, we expected a meal and service fit for a special occasion. Our waitress pushed us every minute once we sat down to decide what we wanted to drink, and then disappeared midway into our meal. She was impersonal, unhelpful, a little rude and did not make us feel taken care of. We found the service overall disorganized -- at one point, three hot dishes came out at once, making it hard to enjoy them before they got cold. Also while two dishes were getting cold, another server was explaining our yosedofu dish at length, but didn't have answers to any of our questions about what was in the dish or how it was made. When we were ready to order our final course, our waitress was nowhere to be found. Again, for such an expensive and well reputable restaurant, we expected more. We had eaten at Fork the evening before and experienced remarkable food and service for the same price, and were surprised by Morimoto in stark comparison. The one shining star of the evening was the calamari tempura salad. Truly delicious and memorable.
While the food was very good (not the best sushi I've ever had, but much better than mediocre), other aspects of this restaurant experience deserve mention. First, the service was excellent. Servers were everywhere. Our waiter was patient and helped explain the restaurant's specialty dishes clearly. Food was served and cleared promptly and politely. Regarding the ambiance of this restaurant, however, I have to say I was disappointed. While the decor is clever and sophisticated, it does not take into account accoustics (there are no soft surfaces to absorb sound) or practicality. Table lights are attached to the tables, with their wiring extending down through tubular pedestals that support the tables and anchor them to the floor. The result is that these lights cannot be moved and are in the way of food platters. Since our party shared dishes family style, this made it very difficult to reach and also, by the way, difficult for servers to place the platters of food. I guess the designers didn't want pendant lights hanging from the ceiling, but surely they could have thought of something else.
Fantastic time at Morimoto! This was my second time there and it did not disappoint. The food and drinks we on par. My husband and I did the chef tasting and beverage menu. Although it was expensive (we were celebrating our anniversary) the experience was priceless. It was exciting not knowing what we were going to get!!! Our waiter and servers coming with our courses were great. If you are a foodie and love trying new things, this is for you. It was high end plating and unami :) Thank you morimoto for a great night out!!
