We were at Morimoto's for an anniversary. It was a good experience overall. The host could have been a little bit more friendly, but overall the experience was good. The food was excellent and the portion sizes were really good. We anticipated smaller portion sizes and ended up with more food than we could eat!
Lychee and fig martini - among the best lychee drinks I have had. Absolutely delicious!
Kemuri - Expected a more smokey drink since it has Laphroaig, but we were pleasantly surprised with a drink more on the sweeter side.
Both drinks were great; we'd order again!
We started off with appetizers:
Rock shrimp - the sauce was great, and the shrimp was wonderfully crispy on the outside. The shrimp was a little overcooked though. Probably would not order again.
Wagyu dumplings - This was our favorite appetizer of the night! The beef was great, the broth was delicious and the dumplings were perfectly soupy and warm.
Spicy vegetable tempura roll - there was nothing special about the roll; could be from any sushi place
Green tea cha soba needles - I like to believe I am a green tea connoisseur! I loved these noodles and were my favorite dish of the night! I would go back for this.
Duck Duck Duck - The duck fried rice was absolutely delicious! Definitely a unique take on fried rice. The duck was cooked perfectly as well. Would order again.
Overall, the only disappointment was the staff being a little less warming and welcoming. With that added to the experience, I would give 5 stars!
My girlfriend took me out for Valentine's Day and we can honestly say everything was perfect. From the moment you walked in to the second we walked out, we were well taken care of. The sushi and oysters were delicious and main courses were even better. Will definitely return very soon!
Came here with my girlfriend four our anniversary date. Debatably the best dinner/meal I’ve ever had in my life. The Japanese A5 Wagyu beef was the best beef I’ve ever tasted. Got the Australian Wagyu for my entree, and it was very good. Tempura shrimp were amazing. Dessert was very good also. Cool interior and ambiance, beautiful place. Can’t wait to come back here for my next dinner!
Definitely one of my favorite restuarants in Philadelphia, although a little pricy but well worth it on a special occasion. I went here with my boyfriend to celebrate Valentine's. We didn't try the omakase (which I wish we did) but the Duck Duck Duck and Rock Shrimp Tempura were amazing.
We also had the 45 Chef Combination.
Food took a little longer to reach our table but still good!
The “Duck, Duck, Duck” entree was one of the best meals I’ve EVER had in my life! The sushi combination was extremely fresh and tasty. A bit pricey, but well worth it for a special occasion. I’d been wanting to eat at Morimoto for years, and it definitely did not disappoint! I look forward to having the Omakase on my next visit.
Outstanding. My husband and I had the classic omakase and it was worth every penny. The service was impeccable and prompt, never overbearing, and every server explained each dish very well. As for the food, I didn't know fish could be that buttery and melt-in-your-mouth amazing. The black cod with miso was alone worth the price of admission, and I'd go back just for that--but the 7 other dishes were incredible, too! The skate with dashi was the epitome of umami, and the duck was rendered beautifully. We left feeling full and pampered and will absolutely be back some day.
My wife and I dined at Morimoto in Philly on Saturday night. Once we entered we were immediately asked if they could take our coats. We were then taken to our table. The restaurant has a sleek white decor. Our waiter Kevin approached shortly after being seated and thoroughly described the menu and told us the night's specials. Besides the food being very good, the service was even better. We will return.
Had a recent lunch at Morimoto and had a fantastic experience. Food was outstanding, as was the service. The restaurant was surprisingly (and thankfully) not busy, so we were able to converse easily and let the meal progress at a leisurely pace. The lunch sets were a very good value. Definitely would go back!
The service at Morimoto is exceptional. The wait staff is attentive and professional. It seemed that they understand that the menu can be intimidating for people not experienced with Japanese cuisine and take time to be helpful. The ambiance seems a bit stale, as it hasn't been updated since I was there 10 years ago. I was less than impressed by the dress code of other patrons. While we were dressed in dress-casual, there were people in hats and plaid shirts. The food was phenomenal. The kakuni pork belly was fantastic, as were the desserts. Morimoto flavors all their sushi with a dab of wasabi, and on about 50% of our pieces there was too much wasabi and it overpowered the flavor of the fish. I think it the future I would ask for it without wasabi and apply it myself. Overall I was satisfied with our experience, not blown away. I would still recommend it to a friend as an interesting blend of flavors to experience
