The highlights. The food was fantastic. Party of 2, we did omakase + sake pairing + a few additional menu choices. Everything was very good or better. I probably wouldn’t do the sake pairing again but it was good, there were just other, better, imo choices. The flow of the staff was consistent and attentive. That said many were just going through the paces. Our main server clearly didn’t have much, if any prior food service experience, or training, which for this style, reputation and price point is pretty disappointing. Which leads me to the next negative. Cleanliness. For those that balk at the “if I’m spending” statement I apologize but we’ll just have to agree to disagree. If I’m spending over $700 on dinner for 2 it’s my belief that my server shouldn’t grab my water glass by the rim to refill it. That the tables and floors, walls and bathrooms, etc should be clean. Morimoto is not. It’s clean like a $30/plate chain restaurant clean but that’s the best I can say. There’s superfluous wiping, but nothing is clean and servers consistently go from clearing tables, picking up trash, etc. to serving food without wiping, washing, sanitizing, exercising any kind of basic food service hygiene procedures or training. The space itself is fantastic. The execution of the construction is hurried but acceptable (speaking as someone who has built out several high end restaurants) but the design elements and theme are gorgeous. My hats off to the architects snd designers, a job very well done. Would we return? Maybe. Sit at the counter, try a different tact with the menu, assume we get a different server (who was, to her credit unfailingly pleasant, just poorly trained or not suited for high end food service)? Maybe. There are other very good omakase choices in Philly that are without question better per $/spent. All in all a pleasant evening, I would just say that almost every $750 meal for 2 I have experienced was better.

Temperature of food was off. Got a cup of tea, was luke warm. Ordered miso soup also Luke warm. Ordered sushi with accommodations due to allergy to sesame seeds and the sushi was still brought out with the allergen on it.

Go and try the omakase tasting menu! We did the omakase tasting menu with the beverage pairing. It’s an 8 course meal (yes 8 drinks to accompany too) that ranged from baked fish, sushi, raw fish, steak, etc. The beverage pairing vaired from champagne to saki to wines. I will add that each beverage was PERFECTLY paired to the dish. Everything was outstanding, we even upgraded to the kobe beef the the wagyu steak - incredible and very indulgent. No surprise the best part was the sushi - ranged from a selection of fish that just melt in your mouth. I would definitely return and just order sushi in the future. Last comment, we came here for our anniversary and was pleasantly treated to complimentary glass of champagne with a scoop of sorbet in it. Left with our hearts and stomachs full!

The food and service was exquisite! Unfortunately there was a very loud and offensive customer behind us. The management was brilliant handling this and treated us to dessert as a reward for our patience 💕 well done!

the king crab, wasabi fried rice and main course were 5 star. the sushi was very mediocre and quality not in line with the price

Always a great experience at Morimoto’s. We dine there at least 6 times a year. We’ve never had a bad meal or poor service over the many years of dining there. Hamachi tartare, tuna pizza, rock shrimp tempura and wagyu beef carpaccio are appetizers not to be missed. Also the Morimoto Omakase (chef’s tasting menu) is a definite must try. Oh, and if you like oysters these are not to be missed as they are not the usual presentation. Trust me, they’re delicious!

Food was very delicious, flavorful and very well presented. Went here to celebrate my partner’s birthday and Morimoto did not disappoint! Absolutely loved it and will be coming back again in the future!
