Japanese
Morimoto is the New York City interpretation of Executive Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s namesake Philadelphia restaurant that is co-owned with restaurateur Stephen Starr. Designed by world renowned architect Tadao Ando, the restaurant’s entrance features the world’s largest Japanese Noren curtain set against a massive façade of austere steel. Inside is an extraordinary open kitchen surrounded by a 24-seat sushi bar where diners can watch Morimoto and his chefs at work. On every level of the restaurant guests enjoy the elaborate menu where East meets West. Glass partitions create a private atmosphere between tables and a wall made of 17,000 spring water bottles add a touch of New York drama to this tranquil atmosphere. Guests have the option to dine on the top floor or congregate in the lower lounge for cocktails and snacks.

After read the reviews of a Morimoto I had high expectations. However neither the food not the service lived up to the review ratings.
The quality of the food was no better than what I get in Atlanta for half the price.
However the biggest disappointment was the poor service.

Great good, beautiful ambience and amazing service. Definitely recommend for a special occasion, as the prices are on the higher end, but within range for an upscale restaurant. Our main server was Sonny and he was great.

A great place to eat amazing food. The ambiance allows you to dress casual or formal and eveything in between. Service is very good, our waitress did an excellent job on checking in with us and making sire everything was to our liking. The music was setto the right volume, great for conversation and that pivital moment the food touches your palate.

Ordered chef's prefix, as well as various appetizers. EVERYTHING is superbly cooked. Cocktails are fantastic. Well planned. Beef is superbly cooked with charred taste. Never had better cooked fish and the sushi was uber fresh. Clearly, Iron Chef quality.

Amazing food and great service, but zero attention to bathroom facilities. Clogged toilet in the ladies room and no paper towels in the men's room. Notified hostess - 'we are aware"!

From the moment we walked in we were warmly greeted by the hosts, they actually looked up at us which you don't often find! They were so friendly and approachable, every member of staff we en counted were warm and very hospitable! The food was incredible, with excellent presentation and large portions. The ambiance was great, it was buzzing with people but still not too loud so you can have a conversation. Excellent restaurant and would definitely recommend as a great New York spot!

Aside from the King Crab, everything else was average. The Wagyu sushi was not tender, the lobster maki did not have enough lobster or even the taste of lobster (too much veggies), the tuna maki was not bad.

Best oysters/raw bar in NYC.

The staff is very professional and super friendly. The Manager (Marc Hernandez) is doing a fantastic job, you can truly see and feel the difference. Top Notch Service. Sarah and Jane were our waitresses and their suggestions were EXCELLENT! (Sweet girls)
Keep up the Phenomenal Job!

Ps. Starr Group’s restaurants are amazing Google them.

I’ve lusted after dinner at Morimoto since I watched late night rebroadcasts of Iron Chef Japan in the late 90s. It took me a long time to get to a point in life when I could afford the indulgence. In the intervening time I have been privileged to dine at great Japanese restaurants in Osaka and Tokyo, California and New York, and many others. It is one of my favorite cuisines. The Omakase at Morimoto hits on many of the favorites of Japanese cuisine and it does everything well. You have some great fish, some great steak, and seasonal greens in the kaiseki tradition. This is not a three Michelin Star restaurant and the story and invention and purpose of those kinds of restaurants is absent. Instead Morimoto does what he has always done for me: be an ambassador of the best of Japan with skillful and consistent execution, quality ingredients, and thoughtful and attentive service. You will have a great meal with no regrets!

Food was Amazing!!! Fresh Sashimi, and Sushi. Everything was great, but Sashimi was the best always, so fresh!! We had chosen wild sashimi from Japen, it was worth of money.

Toro Tartare is a must!
Who knew foie gras and eel pair so well together?
The rock shrimp is such a crowd pleaser, we'd definitely come back for all of these appetizers!
Black Cod = perfection. Hamachi ribbon with Wagyu beef "Surf and Turf" was so incredibly satisfying.
Ended on a sweet note: Chestnut cake with black sesame ice cream + matcha & kuromitsu ice cream and lychee sorbet trio were nice and light.
Everything were so delicious!

Excellent as expected. Pricey even by New York standards but still delicious and creative sushi. Late Saturday night they had run out of a few items. Ambiance very modern and a bit loud but again it was Saturday night!

The service was phenomenal! A colleague visiting from Zurich craved Japanese food... I live in Chelsea, this was a safe bet for quality.
We opted for the omakase tasting menu, it is an 8 course adventure, or a culinary Disney Land for foodie taste buds. Layers of texture and flavor built up to the sublime wagu course... The exclamation point at the end? The dessert was so subtle, but with depth and texture, a little sweet here and savory there... Bit of crunch. Yum!
Our server was also psychic and my new spirit animal.
We wanted nor waited for attention... Just great.
Iron Chef service all the way
Arigato!

A big celebration brought us here for the first time. We chose the ideal location. Everyone - from the hosts to the food runners to our servers were spectacular. We used our Opentable rewards, and I always do so with trepidation as anything could go wrong. Our server accepted our voucher graciously and without judgment. He was the best. We'll return with or without a voucher any time.

I’ve been here before during lunch hours. The difference between lunch and dinner prices is pretty significant, so you will get a much better deal with the same great treatment during lunch. I think they were having an off day tonight, because there were some lags in service and the check was computed incorrectly. I still really like this place but in the future I’m just going to come for late lunch or happy hour.
