About Morimoto New York

Morimoto is the New York City interpretation of Executive Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s namesake Philadelphia restaurant that is co-owned with restaurateur Stephen Starr. Designed by world renowned architect Tadao Ando, the restaurant’s entrance features the world’s largest Japanese Noren curtain set against a massive façade of austere steel. Inside is an extraordinary open kitchen surrounded by a 24-seat sushi bar where diners can watch Morimoto and his chefs at work. On every level of the restaurant guests enjoy the elaborate menu where East meets West. Glass partitions create a private atmosphere between tables and a wall made of 17,000 spring water bottles add a touch of New York drama to this tranquil atmosphere. Guests have the option to dine on the top floor or congregate in the lower lounge for cocktails and snacks.

Service was forced and rushed. Not friendly. Food wasn’t as good as previous times. Menu is too big. Too complicated. Tables are too close together.

Nice staff, the food is well presented. We had the omakase which was a 7 courses meal. The fish was not of outstanding quality, the sushi was disappointing. The appetizers and salad were ok but the dessert was largely under the expectations. Overall it is a very disappointing experience, also considering the price of the omakase meal. I do not recommend Morimoto which is clearly overrated. If you are looking for a good Japanese restaurant you can find many others in NY that largely surpass morimoto.

As a New York food aficionado, I was extremely disappointed in the dining experience I had at Morimoto. The burrata with truffle was utterly disgusting and had no truffle. The lobster tempura special roll lacked lobster and the $30 Toro special roll was underwhelming, which I don't think is an adjective anyone would want to use to describe a $30 roll. This restaurant doesn't compare to BONDST or any other high quality Japanese restaurants in the city. I will never come back.

One of the best Japanese restaurant in the city. The food is very fresh and tasty. The environment is beautiful and good for conversation. Great place to eat.

This restaurant is always a delight. But the bartender really outdid herself. She made me custom hot sake with natural ginger to soothe me from the cold weather outside. It was so delicious and the perfect beginning to the dinner. We had the tasting menu which seriously will never let you down here. Morimoto is truly an innovative experience every time I return.

Nice interior design, good food.
Service and noise level did not make us feel relaxed and comfortable though:
Waiter was too pushy:
- He constantly tried to up-sell in a very obvious way.
- He poured too much wine from our bottle of white wine (more than it would have been filled if bought by the glass), thus it got warm in the glass.
- Plates were taken away while we were still eating.
Noise level was very high, music was not a good fit for a fine Asian dining experience, we could hardly have a conversation.

We have been to Morimoto’s many times. Reserved a table for 5 adults for a birthday. We were excited to go out as a family especially since the birthday person has not been home in about a year due to him serving in Military.
1- Reservation Time was not honored
2- Was first put on a long communal table even though I called to requested a private table when I made reservation
3- After I ask to move, we were sat a 4 person table that 5 adults we were squeezed into. I sat at end chair with feet against the leg of table.
4- The food is way over priced for just good quality

I would NOT recommend. Over the past few times times we noticed the restaurants seems to be going downhill and poorly managed. In the past we would take guests from out of town due to its ambiance and quality but that is no longer the case. Clearly not worth almost 200/ person.

Fabulous, rock shrimp were great and the king crab, although pricey, was outstanding and different (considering I don't usually have it warm). Flaming melting chocolate dessert is instagram worthy finale. There are certainly less expensive sushi options in NYC, but hey, sometimes the atmosphere is what you want along with the great food. Service was perfect and they were very accomodating of our requests. Highly recommended for a special night out.

We got the omakase which is very expensive. We were not full and had to stop somewhere after to get some proper food. We eat Japanese food on a regular basis and this was not very authentic. I've had much better omakase in the past and to be honest this restaurant was a huge let down. I will never go back and will not recommend this place to anyone.

Our journey into the city was specifically to have their burger which we think is magical. They did not disappoint and while there we tried a few things we hadn't had before. Great place for relaxed dining!

This place has no redeeming characteristics. Its like a New York city restaurant for people that have never been anywhere close. The food is pretentious but unimpressive. The service is scattered and inattentive. We ordered the seafood tower and sushi. I really had no idea that a restaurant named after and associated with a chef that is known for seafood, could have such horrible seafood. I have never been in this place before and it might have been good at a time but not now, definitely not now.

This turned out to be a real disappointment. It had nice ambience and good service but the food was really overrated. The sushi was tiny to begin with- you would think with their prices, they could make it at least normal size- and nothing special about them. The appetizers were not any better; the good old shrimp tempura was cooked in small pieces covered in some gooey sauce in two different flavors neither of which I liked. The miso soup came lukewarm.

Maybe there are some good dishes that I didn't get to try, maybe I should have done the omakase. Anyway, it certainly wasn't worth the bill that came at the end of the meal. Next time, I think I will just go to a neighborhood place for less than half the cost.

One of the best restaurants I’ve been to! I went for my birthday, excellent attentive pleasant service, great menu, they cater to your likes and can alter dishes to suit your taste. It can get a bit noisy but it’s tolerable. Great presentation for Food photography, Food is dynamically flavorful I loved it. It’s a bit on the pricey side but well worth it! Love this place!!

Unfortunately the service is no good. We booked our dinner for 10pm and we were seated at 11am. The staffs were so confused with the tables. When we were ordering we got also disappointed - the guy was in a hurry and no patience to indicate dishes from the restaurant. Super noisy, weird people .. Really, I didn’t like there. :(

Morimoto made us wait 36 minutes for our table that we had previously reserved. The service was terrible, and the food did not make up for the wait. A little tip: when you make patrons wait at your overpriced establishment well past 15 minutes, bring a free round of drinks.

Service was TERRIBLE. Our waitress left without telling us she did — we only knew because she told the table next to us. Nobody came to our table and we had to ask one of the boys clearing our table to bring our check after approximately 1 hour of not being checked on by any staff.

Shrimp tempura and gyoza were pretty remarkably gross.

Good points though — the cook it yourself waygu appetizer and oh toro sushi we’re DELICIOUS. Waygu was best I’ve had in my life but we unfortunately left the meal with an overall bad impression due to the terrible service and lackluster apps. Will go to nobu the next time I’m craving sushi in NYC.

Reservation at 9:30, we arrived at 9:06. They advised they would prepare a table immy.
At 9:50 we were still waiting, in order to speed up we sat in the "le pan quotidien" general table.
I usually don't write any review but for $400 dinner for 3 the service and timing was disastrous.
