About Morimoto New York

Morimoto is the New York City interpretation of Executive Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s namesake Philadelphia restaurant that is co-owned with restaurateur Stephen Starr. Designed by world renowned architect Tadao Ando, the restaurant’s entrance features the world’s largest Japanese Noren curtain set against a massive façade of austere steel. Inside is an extraordinary open kitchen surrounded by a 24-seat sushi bar where diners can watch Morimoto and his chefs at work. On every level of the restaurant guests enjoy the elaborate menu where East meets West. Glass partitions create a private atmosphere between tables and a wall made of 17,000 spring water bottles add a touch of New York drama to this tranquil atmosphere. Guests have the option to dine on the top floor or congregate in the lower lounge for cocktails and snacks.

I've been to Morimoto a few times over the years, but hadn't been for 2-3 years until last night. We wanted sushi and it was a special occasion, so decided to do something above the usual. Very disappointing. The interior is getting stale - the same as when it opened - and the service was lethargic. We had the chef's tasting and within 2 courses I was served the only thing I said I didn't want when they had asked at the start. That was corrected, and then the time between the next couple of courses was much too long. Dishes were removed, but then 10-15 minutes passed before the next course was served. The drink pairing (wine and saki) was fine but not outstanding. The whole experience, at $400 for 2, was really a value abomination. I won't be back.

We had terrible service, the food was really subpar. The fish did not taste fresh. Told them in my reservation it was my husbands birthday and they never mentioned it or did anything special. The waiter was rude. We will never return here.

Well this was my second time in Morimoto. The food is always amazing. I had the surf and turf, my steak was cooked to perfection! The smoked salmon melted in your mouth it was extremely fresh. The only problem I had was with the service. The waiter did not check up on my meal, I had to wait to order a drink because he never came by to the table to see if I wanted anything more. I had to basically flag him down to order additional drinks from the bar. They also brought my dates dinner first and I sat there and waited, so rude when your starving. The food makes up for the terrible service. The waiter was the problem not the host or the bus boys. What kind of waiter doesn’t let you finish taking your order? And I spent well over $300. Anywho I hope they fix that.

This was one of the best dinners we have ever had! All of the restaurant personnel joined in to not only provide excellent service, but to make sure we had a great experience! We sat at the sushi bar, and the chef made some rolls just for us based on our tastes. We had the tofu made table side. There were so many layers of flavor!

Even though we had a reservation and we were on time the hostess was trying to accommodate a rather persistent customer who did not have a reservation and wanted a nice table in the main dining room. She made us wait because she kept chatting with this person and we reminded her she was rude and somewhat condescending...after being seated right by the door ( probably the worst table) we decided not to make a big deal and enjoy the great food.
It's a shame to have such a person work in that position there.

It was my moms 80th birthday, the waiter took forever to greet us. My mom need help w the menu and he was not great at guiding the menu.
During eating the appetizers my sister dropped a condiment tray for her starter. She dreamed of this appetizer and the waiter came to take our order. I asked that he replace the condiment tray and he said yes right away. The try never arrived the waiter disappeared. When he returned he said what would you like to order ? I let him know the condiment tray never arrived he said oh what would you like to eat ???

We then asked the waiter on the side to prepare a special dessert for her 80th he replied ill just stick a candle on whatever she orders.

Fed up I went to the front desk and they prepared a special dessert.

The seating w a reservation next to the sushi bar, entrees not arriving at the same time. A waiter that was mia for our tables and the surrounding tables. This was my moms 80th birthday how shameful of an experience!!!

Lovely $600 diner for an embarrassing eve, way to go Morimoto.

I went for restaurant week and the food did not disappoint or downgrade from their regular menu. Sure, the portions were a tad bit smaller but the flavors and freshness were there. I also added on the chef's $60 selection of sashimi and every single piece was worth it. Best dining experience in NYC in my many years of living here.

We came here for restaurant week. The ambiance and decor was on point, modern, sleekand smart. I like how they used glass as dividers so you feel semi-private yet the restaurant is still very airy and spacious. Food wise they only have lunch restaurant week, which consist of a bento box style tray and a desert. I got 10piece sashimi, which was good but not wow. The desert was outstanding though. I got the passion fruit sorbet, cream with sesame flakes. It was creative yet well balanced. Lastly we also got their signature toro sashimi appetizer. It came with 6different dips and each one of them is a good complimentary to the toro or in combination. Overall it was a pleasant meal, I would like to try other options of the main course next time around.

My cousins in from FL for girls weekend/wedding party celebration and this was the ultimate!! There’s not another sushi restaurant in New York, or anywhere else, that compares. From beginning to end an absolute culinary experience! Our Server, Shota, was exceptional and we will come again and again for the food and for everything that comes along with this wonderful establishment !

Second time at Morimoto and it did not disappoint. I had the Omakase again and without asking they created a few different courses for me than their signature ones, so that I could experience new combinations. everything is artfully and beautifully presented and the staff is lovely and kind.

The service is quite good. They introduced you the great food with patience. I especially love the Wagyu beef there. It's the first time for me to have Wagyu beef in NYC and it made my day.

Went there on a Saturday night with a 730 reservation. Had to wait about 20 minutes at the bar to be seated. Decided to do the tasting menu and it was underwhelming. First course came out rather quickly, but second course came out about 30 minutes later. I had to ask for a drink refill while waiting because no one would come by to update us on anything. Each dish is basically one or two bites so it leaves you wanting more but you have to wait another 20-30 minutes to get the next bite. Most of the food is raw so I don't know what took so long. From seating to leaving was 2hrs and 15mins which means about 23 mins between each dish. The food itself is high quality, but the tasting menu was not cohesive and we didn't care for two of them at all - to the point where we didn't finish the small portion given to us. I realize taste is subjective, so someone else may like what we did not eat, but I didn't understand what the tasting menu theme was meant to be. It seemed to just be a random choosing of things they serve, but there was no discussion of how one dish tied to another. Also, each dish seemed to be served by a different person who was not our server. This contributed to the disjointed nature of the tasting menu. Overall, I don't think we will return to Morimoto. There are better omakase choices in NYC for equal or better values.

Morimoto was very good, but not extraordinary. For the money, I would have expected a little more. The service was good overall, but the food was brought out very slowly. The dishes in the 7 course meal were overall quite good, but again there were so duds so for the cost overall a little disappointing.
