Morimoto New York
This was the third time I went. The first two times everybody was very nice and attentive. This time our waiter just seat us and did nothing else, we have to call another for water. He did not gave us suggestions about the menu or help us. I order for dessert a cheesecake and is the first time I didn’t ate a dessert. It did not taste like a cheesecake at all. For a expensive restaurant, I expected more attention.
We've been wanting to dine here for years and finally booked a table to celebrate my wife's birthday. As expected, the interior is stunning with lots of white, gray and glass features. Even the chopsticks are translucent.
We started the night with lychee fruit martini's and their (apparently) famous spicy rock ship... Incredible. Next we dove into the sushi, which was extremely good. My favorite was the Toro Spicy Tuna Roll (seasonal). We ended the night with a deconstructed apple pie served in a bento box.
In the end, Morimoto did not disappoint. If you're visiting NYC as a tourist, I would also say that this is a neighborhood you definitely want to check out with Chelsea Market, Whitney Museum and the High Line. Cheers.
Very nice ambiance but service didnt do it for me knowing that it costs so much to eat there. Overrated. Sorry
Always fun at Morimoto and the food is always outstanding!
I came here a few times, I really love this place! The food is really tasty and good, I mean its a Iron Chef:-)
Never had a problem with service, reservations. Its just a great place to go either with friends or just a couple. It is a bit pricey but totally with it! :-)
Love it here. Second visit. Music a little too loud. But great service. Kind amazing food
Wonderful experience all around. We were graciously seated 30 minutes prior to our reservation. The seats were very comfortable. The atmosphere was great. Beautiful decor. The Rock Shrimp appetizer is the best I’ve ever eaten. Sea bass entree was a very generous portion and very tasty. The surf and turf was a wagu skirt steak, hamachi over avocado mash and a potato cake. I highly recommend this dish. It’s not as generous a potion but the taste was spot on. A side of pea leaves was also delicious. A bit salty by very tasty. The wine list is excellent and our waiter was very helpful as was the entire staff. A truly wonderful dinner experience.
Valentine’s Day gift to my wife. Food was excellent but Could have been better. Service was outstanding, overall a good value.
Our meal was wonderful, the sea bass was perfect. Our waiter was great, this place is great for all types of occasions. Can't recommend enough.
Wonderful food and very nice and knowledgeable service. Not too noisy so you can have a conversation.
Birthday. Service was stellar!
Came here for my boyfriend’s birthday, and upon entrance we were impressed. It was 9:00PM, so there weren’t many other people around, and the ambiance was magnificent. The service was amazing; everyone was extremely attentive and nice. We had the hot stone wagyu, which was a tasty experience. We also had the $95 sushi combination, which came with 20 pieces of sushi and two rolls which were all really tasty. I don’t usually eat raw fish, but Morimoto definitely has changed me. Lastly, we ordered the Hanabi Dama for dessert, which was a delight to see, however, it was way too much chocolate for two so we didn’t get to finish it.
This was my sixth time at Morimoto's and we were there to celebrate my sister's 50th birthday. Her entree of waygu beef came waaaay before her sides so that the meat was cold when they did arrive. and she was loathe to send it back. We were also seated next to the drafty window/exit door so my 83 year old mother was freezing. We usually love our Morimoto's experience, but this was the first time that it did not live up to our prior experiences. I made my reservation three weeks in advance, so there was enough time to seat us in a better spot. We were very disappointed.
Wonderful! Service was Amazing! Delicious !!
Thanks for adding greatness to our evening!!
The food was amazing! We had such a great time with great recommendations from our waiter. Will be back!
The food was incredible and it was a great deal during restaurant week. However, the locks on the bathrooms did not work. Right before I went in, a waiter walked in on someone. Thinking they just forgot to lock the door, I went into the other restroom, pressed the lock, and a waiter walked in on me as well! Really humiliating and terrible to happen at such a nice restaurant. I had to leave the restaurant and go down the street to use the restroom. For this reason I would not recommend it.
We came on the last day of Restaurant Week. All of the food was very good. The black cod was exceptional, and the sashimi was amazing. We also really enjoyed the drinks: I had a white lily, and the lady had a hydrangea. We would happily return the next time we're in New York.
I want to know why my black cod was half the size of my friend’s, which was a third of the size of the typical fillet (as seen on Yelp)
We had great service during restaurant week which we did not expect at all. The cocktails and the drinks were amazing! While you can find better sushi in NYC, Morimoto is the complete package!
We had a delicious lunch. I enjoyed everything that I ate . The dessert was sweet potato ice cream and it was a real treat. I have nothing negative to say. We hope to return in the future to enjoy another meal at Morimoto. It is on our list of favorite restaurants.
There are actually way too many other good Japanese restaurants. When people come for the restaurant week, their expectation can be higher than usual :(
The restaurant is quite beautiful and the presentation of the food is stunning
Came here for restaurant week it was really small portions and food didn’t taste that great
Friendly staff and delicious food - can’t wait to return!
Perfect for a date night with amazing food! After just traveling to Japan I've been underwhelmed by the Japanese food in NY. This was perfect.
Will be back soon
Pushy waiter, subpar food
Sad lunch at Morimoto. Food was bland and service was off and wanted to get us out the door asap even if the restaurant was empty.
Very nice atmosphere and decor! Food was wonderful and our server took really good care of us!
Came here during the restaurant week. Got a reservation and was served promptly.
I got a chicken meatball, black cod and a sesame dessert for $42. This is of very good value considering the restaurant’s normal pricing.
The black cod was well seasoned - sweet yet not too saucy. The meat was tender and juicy. It went well with the rice, which was also of high quality.
The chicken meatball was normal. Putting lemon sauce made it a little better. The desert was good.
The drink I ordered was fruity. Pretty refreshing.
The service was fast and friendly. Overall a nice experience!
Soooooo good. Food and service. A must go to. The black cod was amazing. The sweet potato tempura was like something I've never tasted before. Everything was fresh and came out in a timely manner. I will be back
The food was not typical Japanese I think, we were there for the restaurant week, but I'd rather say it's not a high value menu.
We love the food at Morimoto a lot - even the baby likes it! Also, we appreciate the great service.
food is average and not as good as years ago. especially the dumplings are so deep fried.
I loved the vibe at this place and the food was delicious. Ambiance was relaxing and we noted we were celebrating two birthdays and they gave us a complimentary dessert with a candle. Would definitely recommend it and come back!
Sweet potato tempura was delish! Restaurant is beautifully designed.
Did not meet up to expectation for a four dollar sign restaurant in the city. Extremely loud indoors like a public school lunchroom. Food was mediocre and did not feel fresh.
It was restaurant week, 2 of us ordered the COD main course, and it was such a TINY portion with no definable sides! I was incredibly disappointed, and hungry.
Morimoto was great! Service is excellent, NO wait with reservation!! Our waiter was great, attentive and friendly. Food was superb, light and fresh. Definitely would return.
Woman with dark short hair behind the front desk was abnormally rude. Legitimately rolled her eyes at me when I checked in. The wait staff was amazing-the female bartender at bar downstairs is excellent.
