Morimoto is the New York City interpretation of Executive Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s namesake Philadelphia restaurant that is co-owned with restaurateur Stephen Starr. Designed by world renowned architect Tadao Ando, the restaurant’s entrance features the world’s largest Japanese Noren curtain set against a massive façade of austere steel. Inside is an extraordinary open kitchen surrounded by a 24-seat sushi bar where diners can watch Morimoto and his chefs at work. On every level of the restaurant guests enjoy the elaborate menu where East meets West. Glass partitions create a private atmosphere between tables and a wall made of 17,000 spring water bottles add a touch of New York drama to this tranquil atmosphere. Guests have the option to dine on the top floor or congregate in the lower lounge for cocktails and snacks.

We were basically ignored by our server. She repeatedly went over to the other table in our glassed dining area and walked right past us every time. She never refilled our water glasses bad she did with other tables.

Beautiful atmosphere and fantastic service. We ordered a variety of sushi rolls, all were delicious. I had the sea bass and it was savory and perfectly cooked. Superb meal.

I love this restaurant, but more than twice the servers couldn’t answer questions about the food, and politely and humbly said “I don’t know”. But i think morimoto would expect more. Imoto here 😘

This is the 4th time I go to Morimoto, being the first time with my wife. It was a very nice experience. The service was perfect. The Booking was perfect, where as soon as we arrived there was a table organised for us. The dishes were delicious and definitely it is a place to not miss when you are in New York.

Unimpressed with the quality of both the food and service. Just a very bland experience especially when comparing to other restaurants as New York has such great Japanese fare.

The omakase was a truly divine experience. The servers were knowledgeable, the plating was beautiful. It was just enough food to be blissfully, yet not uncomfortably, full. The cocktails were delicious. A dark and moody space, perfect for a special celebration.

The restaurant is very modern and open with high ceilings. The food was good, but the service was extremely poor. We waited 20 minutes before somebody took our drink order and the entrees took over a hour. During that time we never saw our waiter or a manager. For the money I would go somewhere else.

The service is ter-ri-ble. Not the servers, the service. We ordered omakase and said we're kinda in a hurry. It took 1 hour for the first dish to arrive, another half hour for the second. We went in at 8 pm- told them we had to leave at 9:30 cause we're hosting a birthday party at 10. We could leave at 10:40pm. The food was 3/5 and totally not worth the money. Ive been here many times before but not coming back.

Outstanding all around. Great service and amazing food. This place does it right. Great sushi and appetizers. Plus the location itself is really beautiful. You will spend some money here :) but it’s worth it for the dinning experience.

- Very average food
- Idiotic table where the waiter could not walk around and serve us
- did most of the drink serving ourselves as the waiters were not doing it

Some nice dishes, but calling this omakase and posing as high end is just wrong. Nice (seemingly expensive) ingredients, but not great quality and average execution.

One word - underwhelmed. My husband had wanted to go since it opened so we booked for our anniversary. We did mention that it was our anniversary in the booking. We were greeted with a "happy anniversary" when we checked in which was nice. The server also mentioned it when we were seated. After that, service went down hill. Maybe it was because a VIP was seated near us but everything slowed. Our drink order took about 15 minutes. We ordered then our server disappeared. Bussers delivered our food. The manager checked in us and asked about our food but the server was absent. Appeared once to ask if I wanted another drink then poof. The manager noticed I had no drink 10 minutes later and then appeared with my order after checking on it. The food was good but not great. Waygu beef was cooked to request but lots of gristle. My husband's sushi was good but not anything we couldn't get at a good local joint for much less the cost. For how much we spent, I expected better service and outstanding food.

Small children shouldn’t be jumping on the seats & playing at the sushi bar, That is definitely not part of the Morimoto experience I’ve come to expect and enjoy.

Had dinner for our 20th anniversary this past weekend - service was impeccable. We had the Omakase chef’s choice and it was fabulous. Thank you very much to Jack and the rest of the staff for making our night exquisite.

The food was delicious! We had the omakase at the omakase bar. It wasn't just sushi, which made it more filling than other japanese omakase. My husband and I enjoyed every course. It was just enough food to leave us satisfied. Service was amazing! They must watch us like hawks because as soon as I was finished with each course, there was someone right there to take our plates. There must have been 8 different people waiting on us and each of them was very friendly and accommodating. A manager came over and made sure we were enjoying our meal toward the end, which was very nice as well. The only thing I would criticize is that the seating is very difficult at this part of the omakase bar. You have to climb up a platform just to stick your legs under the bar, which proved rather difficult in a dress. I am pretty sure one of the sushi chefs saw a lot more than I wanted to show as I was trying to maneuver my way into my seat. Apart from that, the overall experience was very enjoyable. I would recommend Morimoto to friends and will probably take my mother-in-law here sometime. We may request sitting at a table, though, because my mother-in-law may not be flexible enough to sit at the omakase bar.
