About Morimoto New York

Morimoto is the New York City interpretation of Executive Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s namesake Philadelphia restaurant that is co-owned with restaurateur Stephen Starr. Designed by world renowned architect Tadao Ando, the restaurant’s entrance features the world’s largest Japanese Noren curtain set against a massive façade of austere steel. Inside is an extraordinary open kitchen surrounded by a 24-seat sushi bar where diners can watch Morimoto and his chefs at work. On every level of the restaurant guests enjoy the elaborate menu where East meets West. Glass partitions create a private atmosphere between tables and a wall made of 17,000 spring water bottles add a touch of New York drama to this tranquil atmosphere. Guests have the option to dine on the top floor or congregate in the lower lounge for cocktails and snacks.

Great meal at this legendary Japanese restaurant. Sea bass and surf and turf were fantastic. Ramen chicken noodle soup simple but exquisite. Deserts were to die for. Add great service and you get a NYC foodie must.

Took my little boy to celebrate his 10th birthday and it is always special.
Food is impeccable, the service is always trying the best to attend us and they were very flexible when we needed to increase the number of guests on spot.

Morimoto was amazing!
Brilliant service from the minute you’re seated till the minute you leave.
Food was a WOW factor. Incredibly fresh and seasonal. Well presented and plentiful.
We had an amazing time.

This turned out to be a real disappointment. It had nice ambience and good service but the food was really overrated. The sushi was tiny to begin with- you would think with their prices, they could make it at least normal size- and nothing special about them. The appetizers were not any better; the good old shrimp tempura was cooked in small pieces covered in some gooey sauce in two different flavors neither of which I liked. The miso soup came lukewarm.

Maybe there are some good dishes that I didn't get to try, maybe I should have done the omakase. Anyway, it certainly wasn't worth the bill that came at the end of the meal. Next time, I think I will just go to a neighborhood place for less than half the cost.

One of the best restaurants I’ve been to! I went for my birthday, excellent attentive pleasant service, great menu, they cater to your likes and can alter dishes to suit your taste. It can get a bit noisy but it’s tolerable. Great presentation for Food photography, Food is dynamically flavorful I loved it. It’s a bit on the pricey side but well worth it! Love this place!!

Unfortunately the service is no good. We booked our dinner for 10pm and we were seated at 11am. The staffs were so confused with the tables. When we were ordering we got also disappointed - the guy was in a hurry and no patience to indicate dishes from the restaurant. Super noisy, weird people .. Really, I didn’t like there. :(

Morimoto made us wait 36 minutes for our table that we had previously reserved. The service was terrible, and the food did not make up for the wait. A little tip: when you make patrons wait at your overpriced establishment well past 15 minutes, bring a free round of drinks.

Food was prepared poorly. Didn't appear to put a lot of effort into the dishes. All servers were awkward as if it were their first time serving.

Service was TERRIBLE. Our waitress left without telling us she did — we only knew because she told the table next to us. Nobody came to our table and we had to ask one of the boys clearing our table to bring our check after approximately 1 hour of not being checked on by any staff.

Shrimp tempura and gyoza were pretty remarkably gross.

Good points though — the cook it yourself waygu appetizer and oh toro sushi we’re DELICIOUS. Waygu was best I’ve had in my life but we unfortunately left the meal with an overall bad impression due to the terrible service and lackluster apps. Will go to nobu the next time I’m craving sushi in NYC.

They need to update the interior. It has started to feel old. + We need Morimoto back in the kitchen.

Reservation at 9:30, we arrived at 9:06. They advised they would prepare a table immy.
At 9:50 we were still waiting, in order to speed up we sat in the "le pan quotidien" general table.
I usually don't write any review but for $400 dinner for 3 the service and timing was disastrous.

Morimoto never disappoints. We had the privilege of sitting at the sushi bar in front of Robbie, primo sushi chef. He created extraordinary dishes throughout the evening. It was my son’s first time experiencing such an amazing selection and he was blown away. He is spoiled for life!!

Was looking forward to our second visit as the first was superb. Our first visit, we had the same server provide everything. This time service was by committee and putting it delicately was not great. Food was spilled on to one of us, wrong dishes were brought to our table and too many people involved. That being said, our waitress was excellent and the food is so good that we will be back for another try. Service definitely took away from the experience.

Warm, friendly service coupled with a superb meal - the toro tartare was exquisite both in terms of the way it looked and how it tasted - we just inhaled it! The black cod in the set lunch meal was superb and the steak was as soft as butter. My sister in law who doesn't enjoy steak not only finished hers but insisted it was the best she'd ever had!
A thoroughly enjoyable experience

I could write so much about this experience, but will just say that Marimoto was as unique as I had imagined it to be. Thank you for such an amazing experience, the fun, the attentions, and, of course, the outstanding food. The marinated scallop in particular was a dish to die for. Truly unforgettable.

Came here for a random Thursday night dinner. We waited for our table by the bar and the bartender was so knowledgeable about the cocktail selection. When we got to our table, our waiter came by often to see how every course was and he offered great insight to the menu selection. The food is just amazing! The rock shrimp and cold soba noodles was my favorite!

The food here was awful. This restaurant is not for people who really like sushi. It is for tourists. Much more attention was paid to how the food looked than to quality or taste.
If you want a venue that looks flashy or “elegant “, then you might like this restaurant. If you want good sushi, go elsewhere.

The person I was taking out, LOVED the restaurant and they are an ongoing customer. I however, felt crammed in, looking at the wall, I thought the service as good but nothing special, I think that was how I felt about the whole experience.... good, ok, but nothing special and extremely over-priced for what we got.

We ordered the tasting menu and it just wasn’t impressive. I love sushi, we have eaten sushi at many nice places and I was so excited to finally eat at Morimoto- the restaurant of a chef I have admired for a very very long time. Overall the sushi was okay, nothing impressive, the dessert was bad, and the service was sub par as well. Would not go back.
