We enjoyed the food at Morimoto and felt that the dishes were fresh, made with quality ingredients and all had great flavor. The food was a bit on the pricy side (for example, a single piece of Nigiri sushi cost the same as two pieces at most other sushi restaurants), however, we expected that going in given the restaurant carries the name of a very famous chef. While we had a very good impression of the food, the impression of the service was the complete opposite. In general we felt that the waitstaff was not attentive for this level of dining experience. We've eaten at many nice restaurants and appreciate the level of service those places offer. That was not the case at Morimoto. We were seated for quite some time before our server greeted us, and after placing our order, she did not come back to check on us very frequently. At one point we wanted to order more sushi and asked her for the menu again. After waiting a long time for her to return, we flagged down another waiter and asked for a menu. This waiter acted as if we were inconveniencing him and after getting the menu, he briskly walked by and handed me the menu without saying anything or even acknowledging me when I said thank you to him. Our waiter approached again and I saw I now had a menu, but didn't apologize for forgetting to bring it in the first place. She also forgot to bring us a few condiments, etc. that we asked for while dining. Overall, I was disappointed that a restaurant with quality food left us feeling underwhelmed due to the poor service.
Fabulous dinner and one of the best desserts I’ve ever had!
Our experience was great with the exception of the front desk worker. As we entered the restaurant, the waiting area was empty yet she didn’t acknowledge my husband and I who were standing in front of her for over 5 minutes before she welcomed us. Funny how she failed to acknowledge us from the point of entering to waiting in front of the desk, but she was swift to welcome a few people who entered after us while she was checking us in. Then after waiting for 15 minutes, my husband proceeded to the bar to get drinks as while waiting. Same front desk lady approached my husband and told him our table will be ready shortly and proceeded to give him someone else’s food bill that was $200+. My husband told her we haven’t even started dinner let alone not even sat at our table. Either her memory sucked or she just felt like annoying us before our dinner. After we were led to our table by another staff member, everything else was great.
The food was good, the service was great, but the restaurant is very loud.
It was amazing. We had the tasting menu with wine/sake pairing. Everything was wonderful
My daughter is a huge 'Iron Chef' fan, so took her to Morimoto for her birthday. Was totally ready for it to be a over-hyped and a letdown. I was extremely wrong. 3 appetizers, 3 different mains, 1 order of sushi and a desert - every single item was brilliant (ok, the sushi was just good sushi but everything else was amazing).
Way too loud in the second room and way too bright. I’m 32 and my hearing is fine. Couldn’t hear my girlfriend at all. Food was good and service was fantastic-
The food was a little too sweet for multiple dishes. The lighting was fine when we first sat down but was soon turned down too dark.
Service friendly, was not impressed with chefs combo, not worth the$. Ordered 3sushi rolls and they all came on one plate . Presentation 👎Desert was great “firey Carmel chocolate “. Too noisy ,but view was pretty .
Too noisy for us, even in the “quiet “ room. Music from overhead speakers louder than an average conversation level.
Cold draft of outside air during the entire meal.
We dine there somewhat often and highly recommend it to others. Exceptional sushi and sashimi. We prefer the sushi bar as the dinning tables are too deep and place the guests too far across from each other.
Enjoyed a great dinner and experience. Will definitely return.
Everything was great! But... they stop making my favorite dessert. Tofu cheesecake! Yummy!
Everything was excellent, besides the green beans! Service was very attentive.
Let the waitress pick all of our dishes and she was 7 of 7.... great job
Wonderful service, amazing food and culinary protestation!
the service is too bad！never be back again
Came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We had reservations for 11:30am, right at opening time, which was great because it wasn't crowded or noisy yet. We finished around 1pm and the place was starting to pick up.
Every time I've come to Morimoto, I get the tasting menu, so decided to order a la carte this time to switch it up. The four of us started off with the spicy crab legs and bone marrow, which were both amazing. The crab legs were open-faced style and topped with a spicy tobiko sauce that had us wanting more. We were all seriously licking all the sauce off! The crab was nice and meaty. The bone marrow also did not disappoint. It was topped with bread crumbs which was just divine.
For our entrees, 2 of us ordered the uni carbonara udon lunch set, and the other 2 ordered spicy chirashi bowls. The lunch set came with a side salad or soup, 5 pieces of sushi (2 nigiri, 3 pieces of sushi roll), and tempura with yogurt dipping sauce. I also ordered a few more pieces of nigiri - Japanese uni, fatty toro, and a hamachi that wasn't on the menu that the waiter recommended. I enjoyed all the nigiri and sushi, with my favorites being the uni and toro. For my entree, let me preface by saying I loooooove uni pasta and can't help but order it if it's on the menu. I was pretty disappointed in this one. They didn't use the right type of pasta, which made the consistency pretty mushy. There was too much sauce and was only topped off with a tiny piece of uni. I'm used to lots of uni mixed into the whole plate. I've definitely had better and had higher expectations coming from a Morimoto restaurant. My brother ordered the uni carbonara pasta also and he enjoyed it, but wasn't a fan of the yogurt dip that came with the tempura. My companions who had the spicy chirashi bowls liked it, but said it wasn't spicy enough.
Would I come again? Of course! I just won't order the uni pasta again.
We were looking forward to having sushi and we heard a lot of good things about morimotos which I'm glad we tried but we won't go back for more. They didn't have much for sushi rolls- mostly sashimi. The apps we got were the best (clam chowder, ribs, and oysters) and dessert. I expected more. There's so many great restaurants in napa/Sonoma counties at half the price.
