Morgans Fish House Ratings and Reviews
I had lunch at Morgan's this week. The restaurant was quiet with a handful of diners. Service was good.
I ordered crab cakes as an main course, with two sides: cauliflower and fried zucchini. The sides were great, however, the crab cakes were over done and a disappointment. My friend ordered grilled halibut with the cauliflower and a second side that I can't recall, and loved her entire meal.
Our deserts were the key lime pit and coconut cake. Both were okay.
After a less than gracious welcome by the "hostess", we were seated at a table right at the front door, and not even told about an empty table further back in a better location that stayed empty for nearly an hour. We had reserved through the Restaurant Week OpenTable website, and only after we were seated and asked for the Restaurant Week menus, were we told they were not participating and it was "the organization's fault" and it took them nearly two weeks to get it straightened out. They had no signs up up and did not make any effort to disclose this to diners.
The meal was okay. A tuna tartar with avocado and "crispy wontons" (that was served with some sort of mediocre tortilla chips instead) was almost tasteless. My the salmon dish was served over some jumble of vegetables that were really undistinguished and indistinguishable. Dining out is more than just good food; it's the experience and, all around, this one left a bad taste in our mouths. An off-night? Maybe. Not sure whether I will try to find out.
Always have a wonderful meal here. The fish is so fresh and the portions are generous. Love the steamers to start and the tuna tartare as my entree ( even though it is an appetizer portion). It is more than enough. The waitstaff is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The ambiance is upscale yet welcoming and friendly. There is a reason I return to Morgan's frequently. Never have a bad experience. A great place to catch up with a good friend. Noise level is comfortable so you can have a good conversation throughout your meal.
Second time in Morgan Fish House, first time was outstanding so we were very very exited to go back with some old good friends. Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience, service was very slow and one order was forgotten and arrived 25 minutes after the other orders. Fairly, this order was removed from the check but very disappointing after a first outstanding experience.
Always great food and good service. Husband had the special --- seafood paella -- excellent (but a bit salty --next time will ask them to hold the salt if possible) I had halibut tacos and daughter had grilled shrimp with side of crumbled cauliflower. Husband also had greek salad.
food was pretty horrible. ordered raw clams and oysters. Clams had a fishy taste and oyster had no flavor. All of the seafood was over cooked (fish, calamari, octopus, crab, shrimp, etc). sent in beverage many times and nothing was served. empty glasses for over 40 minutes with no refill. overall wait for the food was way too long. I would never return and never recommend to anyone. the pearl restaurant group locations have been horribly disappointing for the past several years
SO GOOD, SO RELIABLE, AND FUN
went with a couple of friends and had one of my favorite meals - half a dozen oysters, then steamers as my main course. it was hard to decide between that and the shrimp & grits, which is delicious. my friends had swordfish and a pasta dish. everything was great. my grilled asparagus could have been cooked a tiny bit more, but no big deal. our waitress was fine, but the guys clearing dishes seemed to be on auto pilot. i'm sure they don't make much money so I don't want to be critical. I assume they are just overworked. noise level isn't bad at all, coffee is good. i'll be back.
Solid fish is the order of the day (even though they do have some meat items). This is a good, but not noteworthy, restaurant, which should satisfy any fish and seafood lover. There are plenty of choices, all of which are well prepared and the portions are quite ample. Three of us shared an appetizer, and that was a good way to go. Prices, like any restaurant of this ilk, are high, but they aren't out of line with any quality fish eatery. Overall, I'd go back, which is the bottom line.
I have eaten at Morgan's many times. The food is consistently good and is a fair value for the money. Coincidentally, we had eaten there for lunch several days ago and the restaurant was literally empty except for our table of four. Our waiter was a well-trained professional. Last night when the restaurant was extremely busy we had an untrained novice waiting on us, though it was us who were actually waiting and waiting for our dinners. If last night had been our first visit, I probably wouldn't rush back.
Having said all this, I think and hope last night was an aberration.
