Great lunch all around. Would come back in a heartbeat.
Beautiful location with dinner under a large tree. The food was good as was the service.
This restaurant is nice for on-campus special meals, but it's expensive ($16 appetizers?) and loud (too many hard surfaces reflecting sound). While expensive, the quality of the food is VERY good, and portions are reasonable for the price. Service can be spotty - - it can be hard to get your server's attention if you need a refill or want to order something extra. Still, it's convenient, more formal than other campus eateries, and nice enough to take your parents out for an upscale meal on-campus.
Our firt visit to Moreton Fig was a disappointment. It was a slow night, and the staff was not attentive. After about 15 mintes someone brought water and apologized for the wait, as did our waiter who arrived shortly thereafter. My wife and I both tried the chicken pasta and we were both disappointed. The chicken was mostly dark meat and the sauce had an out-of-the-can flavor. Once we had been served the entrees no one checked on us until I finally asked someone for the bill.
The idea of an upscale restaurant on the USC campus is a good one. We visit the campus for the excellent concerts at the Thornton School of Music, and would enjoy this restaurant more often if they could deal wth the food and service issues.
Beautiful outdoor setting under the giant Moreton Fig tree. great attentive service. the menu had a variety of choices and we enjoyed our salads and burgers.
Outstanding service during a difficult day with an overwhelming number of people without reservations being fairly abusive to staff. Good was wonderful. Wine recommendation was perfect. Love the butterscotch pot du creme!
Best food on campus. I would come again. Service was a little slow, but it was busy, so that's understandable.
We had a wonderful experience with our son dining there. the food was delicious, the ambiance was great and the service was fantastic. We would recommend this to all
Amazing that a place this high end is located right in the middle of a college campus. Other than the price, which tends to limit the clientele to faculty and alumni, this is as good a place as I have ever eaten.
Our party of four announced when we sat down at 6:15 that we had to get to a 7:30 show in the Bing. The waiter acknowledged this, said the other patrons were all going to the show, and took our order very fast. I saw him through the kitchen window for a long time reading something, and I could not get his attention. We finally had to send one of our party over to the front desk to ask for some attention. We did not get our dishes till 7:00 pm. We had to eat our dinner in 8 minutes, get the check, and rush to the theater. The two trout dishes were perfect, but the steak and lamb chop dishes, though nicely cooked, were both cold, and should have been brought out when they were ready, or at least kept warm waiting for the trout...
Other than that, we love the restaurant.
The food was delicious and the waiters were very attentive. It is pricey and since its on campus, if you are not there already, parking will be a problem. The farm to table option is attractive. If I am in the area and desire a fine dining experience without going downtown, I will definitely go there again.
We had the daily special, lobster salad tacos. Very tasty BUT we were dismayed at how expensive they were. The server described them before taking our order but did not mention the price. SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE SO, especially because they turned out to be very expensive relative to the regular menu. To be sure, we should have asked, but it is really the server’s responsibility to mention the price as part of her presentation.
Train your servers better.
Impressive on-Campus dining.
Susie the waitress is fantastic!
Nice for business lunch
Had the Cobb salad, which was mostly fine except the chicken was like hard rubber -- could hardly even stick a fork into it!
Vanessa was an outstanding server.
My daughter's favorite restaurant around USC. She would eat there everyday if I let her.
The food was really good. Our waitress was really nice but not that knowledgable about the food. The food came out quickly which was great because we were headed to and event near the USC campus. The parking is a bit confusing and their website give instructions that are a bit incomplete. I would definitely go back though since the food was really good, people very nice and if you are going to the Shrine or anywhere near USC it's a great option!
We went to Moreton Fig for my birthday. Having graduated from the University of Southern California, and being a proud alumnus, I was looking forward to a wonderful experience. I was not disappointed. It met all of my expectations. So if you have a concert at The Shrine auditorium, I recommend eating at Moreton fig. Excellent food. Great location. Outstanding service. Reasonable prices for fine dining.
I love Moreton Fig for their excellent service and great food!
My chicken with its salad on the same plate was outstanding. The flavoring of the chicken and its salad was so delicious. I can't wait to return to Moreton Fig to have that dish again!
The food was extremely salty!!! I ordered the Classic Burger and only ate half. Took the other half with me, and then threw it away. Even the Kennbec Chips were salty...I love salty chips but they were much too salty.
We had a new waiter, he was an excellent improvement over our last 3 visits.
I enjoyed the SC Club sandwich and kennebec fries.
We ate inside as there was a private party that had reserved the whole outdoor area. The noise inside was deafening, so much so that we had to change our table to what we hoped would be a quieter area. Even then, we almost had to yell to hear each other. It wasn't that the other diners were particularly noisy; it is that all the surfaces--walls, ceilings, etc.--are hard and sound reflective, serving to magnify the auditory volume. Given the gross incompetence of the original design for an upscale University dining area in which a venue for comfortable conversation should have been a prime value, the Fig is in desperate need for an extreme makeover with sound absorbing materials. On a previous occasion, I had a generous-sized, delicious portion of lamb chops. This time, the lamb chops were again quite tasty but, unfortunately, they were so tiny and served with almost nothing else, not even mint jelly, that we left hungry.
Wonderful venue, average (or below average) food (overcooked), awful service.
While the food is generally good (especially the cheeseburgers and fries), service to place your order is quite slow. I strongly suggest looking at the menu before visiting so you can place your entire order the FIRST time your server comes to your table. Otherwise it may take another 20 minutes before you see your server again!
Skip the appetizers (a very poor value) and order a basket of chips or fries and a Mac & Cheese (with extra bacon) to share. It can get very loud very quickly - - there are too many hard surfaces that reflect sound and not enough soft surfaces to absorb it.
Although the menu is fairly limited and the food a bit pricy, it's one of the nicer places to eat dinner if you're already on-campus for an event.
This restaurant is an excellent choice for a special occasion on the USC campus.
Great atmosphere. Good food great service
Had a very nice meal -- the steelhead salmon was very good. They are allergy aware, and service was great.
I am a regular at Moreton Fig. On this particular occasion the Service was not nearly as good as usual. I will certainly come again as it has always been excellent in the past.
Morton Fig remains my go-to place for taking colleagues and visitors to lunch.
Nice dinner with great food. Menu isn't huge, but our party each ordered a different item and each was excellent.
Sitting outside under the big fig tree is wonderful.
Service was very friendly but it really is frustrating to w
The menu is very limited at dinner time
The chicken sugo fettuccine had very little chicken - I would say less than a half breast
There was no dinner salad main course option
The location is good - for those who work at SC - it's easy to meet other colleagues without having to leave campus
The outdoor dining patio is very lovely. You are looking out onto the USC campus with all the foot traffic that comes with that.
A very good restaurant located next to the student services center so very convenient for visitors and others as well as people on campus. Service can be spotty, including getting wrong orders, often takes time to get the bill at the end of a meal, etc. But still, a very good on-campus option.
Friendly courteous good service
