Moreton Fig is currently open for Lunch and Dinner service Monday thru Friday.
I enjoyed the SC Club sandwich and kennebec fries.
We ate inside as there was a private party that had reserved the whole outdoor area. The noise inside was deafening, so much so that we had to change our table to what we hoped would be a quieter area. Even then, we almost had to yell to hear each other. It wasn't that the other diners were particularly noisy; it is that all the surfaces--walls, ceilings, etc.--are hard and sound reflective, serving to magnify the auditory volume. Given the gross incompetence of the original design for an upscale University dining area in which a venue for comfortable conversation should have been a prime value, the Fig is in desperate need for an extreme makeover with sound absorbing materials. On a previous occasion, I had a generous-sized, delicious portion of lamb chops. This time, the lamb chops were again quite tasty but, unfortunately, they were so tiny and served with almost nothing else, not even mint jelly, that we left hungry.
Wonderful venue, average (or below average) food (overcooked), awful service.
While the food is generally good (especially the cheeseburgers and fries), service to place your order is quite slow. I strongly suggest looking at the menu before visiting so you can place your entire order the FIRST time your server comes to your table. Otherwise it may take another 20 minutes before you see your server again!
Skip the appetizers (a very poor value) and order a basket of chips or fries and a Mac & Cheese (with extra bacon) to share. It can get very loud very quickly - - there are too many hard surfaces that reflect sound and not enough soft surfaces to absorb it.
Although the menu is fairly limited and the food a bit pricy, it's one of the nicer places to eat dinner if you're already on-campus for an event.
This restaurant is an excellent choice for a special occasion on the USC campus.
Great atmosphere. Good food great service
Had a very nice meal -- the steelhead salmon was very good. They are allergy aware, and service was great.
I am a regular at Moreton Fig. On this particular occasion the Service was not nearly as good as usual. I will certainly come again as it has always been excellent in the past.
Morton Fig remains my go-to place for taking colleagues and visitors to lunch.
Nice dinner with great food. Menu isn't huge, but our party each ordered a different item and each was excellent.
Sitting outside under the big fig tree is wonderful.
Service was very friendly but it really is frustrating to w
The menu is very limited at dinner time
The chicken sugo fettuccine had very little chicken - I would say less than a half breast
There was no dinner salad main course option
The location is good - for those who work at SC - it's easy to meet other colleagues without having to leave campus
The outdoor dining patio is very lovely. You are looking out onto the USC campus with all the foot traffic that comes with that.
A very good restaurant located next to the student services center so very convenient for visitors and others as well as people on campus. Service can be spotty, including getting wrong orders, often takes time to get the bill at the end of a meal, etc. But still, a very good on-campus option.
Friendly courteous good service
Catered to our special needs
Delicious short rib
We took some new employees here as a way to introduce them to USC. We arrived to our reservation a bit late but the hostess was really nice about it. Got seated fairly quickly and had our order taken just as fast. Server was friendly and helpful in giving us recommendations. I ended up getting the club sandwich which was great! Everyone at the table really enjoyed their food as well. It was really easy for us to have a conversation as the noise level was pretty low. Overall great experience!
Moreton Fig is one of my favorite go to spots for lunch. I just love the vibe, the service and the food is amazing! The Chef does a great job with keeping the menu fresh and friendly for us foodies.
I dine here often. My Cobb salad yesterday was terrific. I have decided to steer clear of meat dishes, both for haalth reasons and because I’ve been occasionally disappointed with some of their meat offerings (often overlooked, skimpy).
Loved the ambiance, the food and the service from everyone we came in contact with that afternoon.
Parking is far and steep but validating customers makes up for it. Thank you.
Upscale but reasonably priced restaurant at USC Student Union. A Great Trojan experience!
Extremely disappointed this trip. The former bus boy was promoted to waiter, and should not have been.
Complained that my steak was overdone, ( I ordered medium rare, and it was clearly medium well) he disappeared for 1/2 an hour until my supervisor complained, then he came back with an attitude.
I left without eating, while watching my 3 coworkers eat, no apologies from the waitstaff.
I should have complained to the manager right them, but was so upset that I would have used inappropriate language. Mind you, we have held monthly meetings here since it opened.
The 20% auto tip on Requisitions is ridiculous, especially when the service was horrendous!
We will be taking our meetings off campus in the future.
We were seated outside on the patio on a cool early evening. We arrived ahead of our reservation and were seated promptly. The service was excellent and the ambience delightful during the post Baccalaureate family celebration.
The food is tasty, service generally very good, lovely atmosphere. On a nice day, it's hard to beat.
We waited 90 minutes between ording and being served sandwiches. When asking about service, the server acted as though we were out of line for asking for timely service. No apology; no return business.
This was not my first bad experience. In the future, I will go off campus.
Quick lunch with colleagues. First time and difficulty locating it.
The quality of the food is good, but the dinner menu is way over-priced, with tiny quantities of food for appetizers, though with full-entrée prices. The lunch menu is a lot more reasonable.
I had one of their classic burgers with fries; it was decent, but since this is the "nicest" restaurant on the USC campus, it's always pretty pricy. For two people, expect to pay anywhere between $45-70.
Patio dining was such a pleasure since CA weather is always pleasant!
With another couple, we dined here prior to a lecture on the USC campus. The ambiance is fine, the food reasonably good, and the prices, while not inexpensive, are not excessive. The service was a bit slow, but there was a very large party adjacent to our table which, understandably, was labor intensive. I don't believe it's worth going to this restaurant unless you have an occasion to be on the USC campus -- otherwise it is a bit challenging to get to (and there is a $12 self-parking fee.
Every time my friends and I go to the book festival, we eat here. The food and the service are first rate. The beauty of that tangled-up tree adds to the refreshing, calming setting. Certainly beats the food trucks.
This is a high quality restaurant in a campus setting. The patio is especially pleasant under the shade of the Moreton Fig trees that are the source of the name. Always worth checking out the specials. The salads are great here and incorporate ingredients grown on campus. The staff are friendly and attentive and make dining here a treat whatever the occasion.
A great place on USC Campus - We had dinner there the night before a campus visit for a prospective student. We sat outside on a very pleasant southern cal evening; just enjoying dinner and watching the 'campus scene'. The service was very good, food was very good. Really a super-pleasant evening and for us, a great introduction to the USC Campus environment.
I was happy with my Moreton Cobb salad, which has become my go-to meal because it is reliably tasty, unlike the Classic Burger and some of the sandwiches, like the Cubano, which are quite inconsistent and occasionally rather awful. My guest had the seared salmon special, which he like but which, at $25, seemed overpriced for a campus eatery.
The service was, though, unusually slow and the restaurant was not at all crowded. It may have been the server (who seemed inexperienced) or the kitchen. Business meals on campus usually require less than half an hour between sitting down and getting one's meal. I don't wish to criticize the server -- he was young and, as I said, seemingly inexperienced. So, my main message is that, given the time constraints at least at lunch for on-campus diners, Moreton Fig should pay special attention to providing speedy service.
As usual, the receptionists were friendly and efficient. One is always made to feel welcome.
Moreton Fig is a gem. The outdoor patio has two huge trees that create a cavern of organic splendor. The food was interesting, well prepared and full of taste. The wait staff was lovely.
Even though I had a reservation for 2 they were able to accommodate 3 people.
Everything was great and the lunch special was super! I made sure to mention it to the GM before I left. A little disappointed with our table as I was a little distracted (and I noted that it was a business lunch/meeting on my reservation) over lunch since we were seated right by the service area leading to the kitchen and I've come across everybody who went in and out. Otherwise, the service and food were both great! Loved our server (male) forgot his name :( He was very efficient and personable.
Had a Moreton Cobb salad yesterday. It was predictably good. But the service was rather slow.
Great service, convenient location.
