Stellar food, knowledgeable wait staff, great bar drinks and a warm inviting atmosphere. Would go back in a heartbeat.
Staff was very knowledgable. Food was very good.
I liked the format of how a dining experience was conducted at Morcilla. I like having the opportunity to taste a few different things from a menu in one dining epxerience. The Morcilla menu was perfectly set up to accomodate this.
What I didn't care for was the atmosphere. I felt that my dining experience was hindered by this. The small amount of lighting looked good at first glance, but functionally it didn't work. I like to see what I am eating and I need more than a single flame of a candle to do it.
Also, I don't care for being 6 inches away from the next table. I felt like if I wanted to be part of the neighboring diners conversation, I could have easily done it from where I was sitting.
Good food, it just missed the mark for me on the atmosphere.
Had a great experience. The food is so well done. You’d be well served by perusing the menu before you visit but I was surprised, in a good way, by the high quality and excellent taste
Excellent food and amazingly knowledgeable waiters, let them suggest wines to go with various tapas
Had a fabulous first experience at Morcilla while visiting Pittsburgh to see the football game. Our waitress was awesome and gave us such great direction with the menu options. Cocktails were yummy especially the red wine sangria...it is so inviting with its orange/rosemary/cherry garnish. The food was wonderful...melt in your mouth cured meats and the oxtail were the highlights of the night. The staff was so patient and gracious with us as we probably overstayed our welcome and closed the place down....who would want to leave such a comfy gourmet haven?! All around winner restaurant!
Love Morcilla. I've been there several times and it never disappoints. The food is creative and delicious and the Sangria excellent. It's difficult to find Sangria like the make it in Spain. This comes as close as I've found.
Great Spanish food in Pittsburgh. The Cava, the lager and the Tempranillo by the glass we’re all reasonably priced and some of the best options outside of Espana.
The charcuterie was perfect. The morcilla was the best but that is splitting hairs.
Worth the trip.
I have traveled all over in search of good food. I would say Morcilla had food that was better than much of the food I had while doing an Iron Chef tour in New York. Simply unbelievable food. Lighting could be a little less dim though.
Lovely place. My parents grew up in southern Italy in the country. They made their own soppressata and giardiniera. It's Spanish cuisine but I was hoping it tasted similar. The meats from Spain tasted very good but the cured meat made in the restaurant was lacking in salt and flavor to me. We only ordered the $60 charcuterie plate and the frozen crema de catalana for dessert. The dessert was very good however. The wine, especially the house wine, was very good.
Table was cramped and food not as good as expected. Perhaps would try again
Over the past 30 years I was fortunate to travel the globe and eat at some of the finest and most unique restaurants in the world. I can honestly say that our server Dave was as good as any ever encountered. He was attentive without being overbearing, willing to share his extensive knowledge of food preparation without being arrogant, made excellent wine recommendations, gave the impression he loved his work and the team he works with. It was an great experience for us. Thanks Dave!
An absolutely delightful meal! It is definitely worth the wait for reservations. Make sure to come hungry if you plan to try several dishes. The service was quite knowledgeable and the price point quite reasonable as well. We will return!
It was good, but not as good as press reviews have made it seem.
We have eaten at Morcilla in the past and found the quality on this occasion to have declined.
Food and service were spectacular! Some very unique dishes, the Grilled Octopus was my favorite. Our server was incredible with the recommendations!
Everything we ordered was amazing. Spicy wings and patata are must to try. Service was excellent and the staff were amazingly kind and helpful. Highly recommended for a great variety of occasions from just fine dining to birthday/anniversaries.
Consistently awesome. My husband won't eat mushrooms and ate the mushrooms.
One of the best restaurants I have been to. Creative, well executed dishes, and a knowledgeable staff.
This is one of the best restaurants we have been to in awhile. We asked the waitress to surprise us with our food. Each course was better than the next. I never write reviews but felt compelled to do so because it was that good. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Our waitress was Chelsea and she was superior.
Amazing food. Price were Eason able too. Highly recommended
Friendly and efficient staff. Very accommodating to food allergies. Food was creative and delicious. Interesting wine and drink menu ( gin selection). We will definitely be back!
Lively restaurant with professional and friendly service and imaginative food. The staff was very attentive to our gluten free request. Full gin tonic menu. Great tapas selection especially the smoked duck.
Great date spot for shared plates and drinks. Good vegetarian and pescetarian options for non-meat eaters. The salt cod croquetas were amazing!
Ate at the bar... service food atmosphere excellent
Excellent food and service. Their combination of foreign languages and specialized ingredients make their menu difficult to navigate if you aren't a foodie. But the servers are professional and ready to describe each bite in detail.
First visit. We had the olives, beets, anchovy-topped pa amb tomaquet, bacalao fitters, and chicken wings. All decent, beets very good, wings a standout, cod a little dense and overfried compared to most places in catalonia or bacalao joints in Madrid. Cocktails pretty good and the one gintonica I had with the Berkshire gin was excellent. Good soundtrack, right volume level, friendly and attentive but not overbearing server (barperson). Wish there were more places like this in Pittsburgh (or anywhere). Would be great with a large group to really try more, but still too trendy to actually get a big group in there as a walkup.
We had an incredible experience at Morcilla. The food was insanely delicious and the service was impeccable. Definitely a great place to celebrate a special occasion. Can't wait to go back again.
Received a gift card so gave it a try and we will definitely be back! I know we would have enjoyed the food on its own, but when we told our server Dave this was our first visit, he was very excited for us and oh so helpful making our selections. Also, he was so stealthily attentive to us - our water and wine glasses were always full. Great food and great service!
Very rich sauces, and everything that should have been savory was sweet
Excellent food, but very noisy atmosphere. I hearing and reading about this restaurant for some time. Finally made it there. It's fairly small, with fixed tables (they don't move) for 2 along one wall, quite close together, so you can commune with your neighbors if you are so inclined. There is nothing to soak up sound, so it is very, very noisy. We did have conversations with several of our fellow diners.
The food is the draw. We ordered small dishes, one at a time. We started with a small plate of salami, sliced thin, from the charcuterie section at the start of the munu. It was outstanding, served with dates, cheese and other goodies. Then, we moved on to the manchego cheese plate with a baguette in the tapas section. We liked it, but not as truly special as our other dishes. Our final plate was a duck leg confit. That was excellent. Other dishes on the seasonal menu that I would have liked to try included chicken liver mousse, tuna crudo, and a charcoal roasted, creamed corn. However, we could only stuff ourselves so much.
They have a nice wine list, including house wines that are served by the glass (large or small) or a small carafe. We had a carafe of the house tempranillo. Very nice, but served colder than I might have liked. That may be the Spanish style, but it was different.
I think it would be great to go with a group of more than 2 people, so you could sample and share many more dishes. The flavors we did try were amazing so expanding the variety would be great.
This restaurant is an experience that foodies should really enjoy. It is NOT for picky eaters who do not like to try new things. I will be remembering the chorizo, the cheese, and most especially the duck leg, for a long time.
When I made this reservation I made it known that it was a Birthday Brunch and when I confirmed in the phone, the occasion was noted but no one ever acknowledged the Birthday during the entire meal. Missed opportunity.
Went to celebrate my wife's birthday. Second time was not as good as the first. Nearly 30 minutes between each course with the waitress forgetting our drink orders more than once added to the frustration.
The croquettes were cold by the time they got to us. Very disappointing after a great first experience.
Good food, excellent drinks and service but very, very loud. I'd go back but only on a weeknight when I don't have to shout across the table to be heard.
My second trip to Morcilla did not disappoint! The cocktails, food, and service were fabulous. From house-made tonic to charcuterie to patatas bravas, all were delicious. And even if you're full, order a Crema Catalana to share. It's dessert perfection. I do have one suggestion, however.... Both my visits to Morcilla were with friends busy talking and catching up, so we all found ordering to be a bit of a challenge. I think if there were a paper "scorecard" (similar to what is used for sushi), it would be easier to get the right balance of foods to suit the group. We felt we would have enjoyed some lighter dishes to compliment the delicious meat and cheese. Perhaps consider adding some vegetable dishes like grilled asparagus or roasted cauliflower to the menu. Thank you.
Everything was excellent from the food to the service!
Noise level very high; could not carry on a conversation. Food was disappointing compared to visit 1 year ago. Most items too salty. Vegetable tapas (3) mushy, oily and salty. Sauces on the selections were too abundant and smothered the flavors. Will never go back.
The service was excellent. Our server was very patient and helpful. My wife and I were uncertain about what to order and our server made great recommendations. All of the food was outstanding, but the noise level was pretty high. This made it difficult for us to have a conversation during dinner. The noise level is likely a result of the small size of the restaurant.
Fabulous food, lovely atmosphere, and we were able to linger over our Sunday brunch beyond the 2 pm cutoff for brunch.
Fantastic! Delicious food, delicious wine, great and knowledgeable service! Definitely will be going back!
Inventive menu. Gazpacho soup was the best I ever had!!
