Delicious! We had the family meal and were delighted with our choice!
This is now one of our favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh! Delicious food, warm and cozy atmosphere, and the staff was wonderful! We are definitely looking forward to experiencing this restaurant again in the future and would highly recommend to all!
Another wonderful dinner at Morcilla! The Arroz Con Pitu De Caleya was unbelievable. We always start with the olives and warm bread then the raddichio little gem salad. Wow. Shared a bottle of the Altozano Verdejo Sav Blanc. Perfect meal. The service was great as well and it turned out to be the same server we had on our last visit (who we were a little disappointed with). Still my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh!
Food and service was great. You can't go wrong with anything that Justin Severino serves, in my opinion. Seating was a bit cramped in sections (to the point that I was concerned that the waiter's rear end would catch fire from the table candles as they served food. Regardless, I would highly recommend and we will be back.
Great little spanish eatery. Would definitely recommend the stone crab and the ribs. Our waiter Ryan spaced out our orders to allow us to enjoy each dish. He paired our cocktails with our plates and it made a world of difference. We will definitely be back next time we are in the steel city.
Our experience was underwhelming. Nothing really appealed to us on the menu and the vegetarian items are limited. Didn’t stack up to the reviews online.
the food was exceptional. especially the Cochinillo(roast suckling pig). GREAT resturant.
Amazing food! So many excellent small plates to share and try different things. Don't miss the scallop ceviche, beets with goal cheese, and mushrooms. Server was most helpful with explanations and recommendations.
I’ve had some really awesome experiences at Morcilla but this one wasn’t as awesome. Small plates are really yummy, but even though they are indicated as small they are really small. Have they gotten smaller?
It’s also disappointing that really only one “ large plate” is fit for two, while remaining are for 4 to 6. Wish there were a few more for two. We ordered the trout for two to share and although fresh it wasn’t especially inventive. Lacked flavor or pinch. Rather plain dish and considering Morcilla’s typical fare- expected a bit more flavor.
This was our first time at Morcilla and won’t be our last. We chose to create our own “tasting menu” of sorts where we chose multiple options to share from the “snack” and “small plate” menus. We had the beet conserva, scallop crudo, apple radicchio salad with blue cheese and dressed in a vinaigrette, and jamon berico de bellota. Then came oxtail montadio, ribs, and fried artichoke. Mid way we asked for the bread to sop up some of the delicious sauces as dips left on the plate. Each bite was delicious. I’m not even a rib person and would eat those again and again. I could have had 50 more bites of the oxtail.
The depth of flavor we enjoyed is not easy to find here in Pittsburgh, and was very welcomed. Our server was extraordinary able to offer suggestions from wine to the food and perfectly plated our meals for a seamless dinner progression.
The place can get pricey depending on your choices and the plates are small but in my opinion it was worth it and will be dining again, especially when we have fiends and family visit!
I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes.
Shared the family feast with 3 others. Spectacular food, we left very full, our waiter was great.
Larger than expected portions. Good service.
We visited from Toronto and found Morcilla from a Bon Appetit recommendation. The vibe as we sat at the bar was really nice. Cool to see the homemade charcuterie and cured sausages being hand cut to order. We ordered charcuterie, oxtail bites, shrimp, scallops and mushroom toast... all fabulous. Our server, Lynn, mixed a great cocktail be chatted with us throughout the night about food and travel. We had a great time and would 100% recommend.
The food was fantastic! The atmosphere was loud. Not to mention the fact that every time a waiter waited on our table or the tables next to us, their butts were right in your face. Might bode well if they removed at least one table along the wall to give the other tables a few more inches. Also, take your night goggles, as you may not be able to see the menu!
This is our favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. The service is great and the food is impeccable, delicious and always interesting. We always have a great time when we are there. One minimal drawback is it is quite noisy so for intense conversation that is a problem!
Outstanding bartender, staff, food, service and atmosphere! Literally loved everything!
Morcilla could not have been better. My wife and I go to Morcilla a lot and eat at the bar. However this time we were taking out our daughter and son in law for a celebration, so we reserved a table. They had never been and were blown away by the flavors and especially loved the vegetable-centric dishes. The service was great and well paced. Morcilla is a very special restaurant!
We had an array of small plates, my son adored the oxtail toasts, and the charcuterie was the best in memory. We also had the scrumptious chicken and rice, and ended with the Catalan cream and concord geape sorbet with olive oil sabayon. Best meal of the year!
Our server forgot to put in two dishes we ordered. It was disappointing but we loved everything we did receive.
Excellent preparation and presentation. Knowledgeable staff. Food was spot on an authentic. Highly recommend.
Our experience at Morcilla was shocking to say the least. My husband and I along with another couple went for dinner on Sunday night. Our server came to the table and explained the menu. We all decided to have the 4 coarse family style dinner. We also ordered a bottle of wine (750 ml) and I glass of sangria. The food came out in stages and was properly timed and was very good. But things took a turn for the worst. While we were just beginning our 3rd coarse we asked for a second bottle of wine (750 ml) and a second glass of sangria and our servers response was that she couldn’t serve our table anymore alcohol and that water would be a good choice. My husband and I are in our mid fifties and the other couple are in their late thirties and all are capable of knowing our limits. Then we were met by the manager who insinuated that we had enough alcohol and that it would be a risk to serve us anymore. At this point we asked for the check and couldn’t even enjoy the rest of the experience. I have never in my life been so humiliated. We visit Pittsburgh regularly and will never dine there again.
My 21 year old son and I did the Family Meal. A lot of really good food!
Great food, great service. What more could we ask for?! My husband and I went with another couple and shared several snacks and small plates, skipping the large plates, and we shared two desserts. Everything was so innovative and great flavor combinations. Oh... and the rose sangria... not sweet, so delicious. Worth the hangover!
This is my second time dining at Morcilla and it did not disappoint. I would highly recommend the family feast, as it offers a very nice selection of their menu items. The amount of food was very ample and the flavors were delicious. The service was very good and staff were congenial. It is a small restaurant, so the noise level is high.
Dinner with parents
Great food, and interesting and unusual. Didn't give it perfect rating because it's so noisy you can't have a conversation, and because it's overpriced
Great experience as always. The prix fixe is not only a great deal, it highlighted some dishes we would not have ordered on our own but ended up loving.
Had peppers, manchego, bread, octopus, oxtail, salad and large chicken dish ..everything was fantastic
Great to have this restaurant as part of the wonderful Pittsburgh restaurant scene!
Food was good, not great. We did the set course. Chicken and rice far too salty. Alas our server wasn't the most pleasant which does do the restaurant justice.
The food was superb. The service was mediocre. The waiter forgot one of the things we ordered and generally was far more attentive to the tables around us (I assume because they ordered more expensive meals).
It was very hot in the restaurant, so hot that it became uncomfortable finishing our meals
Overpriced and too much "trickery" in the tapas. Brandade doesn't need soggy potato chips, but does need bread. Pulpo buried in some muddy mix of "potato fondue" -- which was just gummy mash. Churros were wonderful. Service is one thing, but a wandering guy fussing with your napkin is intrusive and pretentious.
Food is nicely presented & flavorful. Lots of staff on hand to serve, clear & reset for next course. Our chief complaint: lack of lighting-it would be nice to see the food & read the menu without the light of a cell phone.
Service was well orchestrated. Some tapas restaurants bring out plates in a random order as they are prepared. Morcilla brought dishes out in a logical order. Snacks first and then 2 logical groupings of small plates. The dishes were of excellent quality.
Outstanding from the get go. We enjoyed the beet and pepper starters, the charcuteria (unbelievable) and the the Sopa large plate seafood pasta. Huge meal for 2 with all the seafood you could ever want. Absolutely great over the black ink pasta. There are a bunch of other dishes that were served around us that smelled and looked delicious. Service was appropriately paced and very attentive with good suggestions on selections and order volume. Excited to go back again.
All in all the food tasted declisious but I found a lot of strong differences from food in spain. ( keep in mind I just visited Spain and I am only conparing to 4-5 restaurants there). I feel the portion size per quanity of food was disappointing. I received a lot less food then what I did in Spain for a LOT more in price. I understand that 5 tapas are a lot of food and should justify the price, but the portions need to be larger foe the price. Especially for the price. Oversloy the food and wine was delicious but there is no reason that experiencing the spanish experience should be 3 times the cost for way less food...plus there needs to be patatas bravas....
My husband and I loved the food. The cocktails were great, especially the sangria roja. The chicken and rice (large plate) was the best I’ve ever had.
Morcilla is one of our “special occasion” places; this is the third or fourth time I’ve eaten here, and Morcilla continues to be my favorite high-end restaurant in Pittsburgh. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious but also interesting—the flavors are combined in ways I don’t normally experience. It’s food that makes you sit back in your seat and say “wow” through half a mouthful. The drinks are good, too, though if whiskey cocktails are your thing you don’t have a lot to choose from (if gin is your thing, you’ll be very happy). The servers are skilled and attentive, and in general it’s just a really great experience.
