Morada Ratings and Reviews
We love going to Morada for a nice lunch or dinner! My fiance and I are getting married there next summer and have since eaten there many times with family and friends. Always rave reviews from everyone. Sitting outside in winter or summer is nice as they have heaters and the grounds are beautiful.
It had been awhile since we were last at the Morada and the menu was totally new. At first I was disappointed, then after visiting with our server I decided to try the Jodari chicken and succotash. It was absolutely delicious. Looking forward to our next visit.
Giving this experience a marginal four stars. We arrived to find there was a Halloween celebration event with kids running around the grounds and people in costume. Once we got into the restaurant the atmosphere was better. Dining room provided a nice setting although the doors were open to the outside where adults and kids could come and go.
We were seated in a nice booth and ordered food. My wife and I shared the mushroom soup and the couple were with shared a Caesar salad - both were very good. There was a short rib risotto dish on the menu that sounded really good so we ordered it. It was not what I expected. The risotto was not risotto at all; it was a thick pasta in the shape of pearls. The short rib meat was good, but this dish should not be called a risotto if risotto is not being used. The couple ordered the salmon and pork chop and they loved their entrees. To cap it off, we had the banana pudding and donut holes and they were both good.
The noise level was rather high with the event going on so it was difficult at times to have a conversation.
The setting here look beautiful, but it was unfortunate the scene was spoiled by the festive crowd. I would like to return here at a quieter time.
We were very disappointed with our recent meal at Morada. We sat on the terrace and had not been informed when making our reservation that a wedding reception would be in progress on the lawn in front of the terrace. The music and noise from this event made it very difficult to make conversation. Additionally, it took an extraordinarily long time for the server to take our dinner order. Our drinks came very quickly, but we waited a long time before our dinner order was taken. When it finally arrived, my seabass was mediocre at best. It was swimming in a broth with mushrooms floating in it...not very appetizing. We are hugely disappointed as we love the ambiance on the terrace at the Inn, but our meals there of late have been lacking. Small portion sizes and flavors that are ok, but not special. Love the Inn, but disappointed of late.
The overall impression was very positive. The main dislike was the slow speed of food delivery from the Kitchen. The wait staff was very good and the employees were very friendly and seemed happy. The food quality was good it just took a long time from the order to the delivery of food from the kitchen.
The setting is quite nice, very pretty grounds and lovely patio. The food service was quite slow. Waited over an hour at lunch for very basic menu items, three salads and sliders. The entres arrived, but one salad was missing the chicken and we were told it would be out shortly because it wasn't quite cooked. Waited another 10-15 minutes with no chicken. Finally had to ask the server where it was. When it was finally brought out, everyone else was done with their meal. Disappointing service for a very nice location in Rancho Santa Fe. Disappointed to because we were there to look at the site for lunch event. Would try it again and hope for better service.
Menu is a bit Pricy, but food was good, not exceptional...I believe they rely on captive audience of those that are staying at Hotel and those living close and can walk over. Highly suggest better servers. I used Open Table and put in Comments that it we were celebrating 2 birthdays. Had also called that morning to review with reservationist same. However our server never got the message. Fortunately I adverted an embarrassing moment by catching server just before he brought our bill...should have been more on top of situation.
Entertaining old friends from NY and wanted to show them the best that California had to offer. We all thoroughly enjoyed the excellent ambience, high end presentation and attentive staff. My wife and I don't go out often but when we do we like it to be really special and Morada did not disappoint.
We especially appreciated the unhurried, reasonably quiet setting on the patio that allowed us the opportunity to catch up with our old seldom seen friends in a sophisticated authentic California style.
Outdoor dining on the patio is lovely with lawn and gardens to look upon. The atmosphere on the patio is quiet and allows for great conversation and enjoyment of nature. The bar area is seductive and inviting though we only passed through to get to the patio. Food was good, not exceptional, but would return again for the combination of the ambiance and the food.
We needed a really nice meal without any drawbacks to let our hair down and relax and enjoy ourselves. Morada did not disappoint. The cucumber basil martini was perfect followed by the sweetest tiny oysters which were a highlight. Our entree's were prepared perfectly and all was served in a timely fashion. We just melted as if we were at a spa, a food spa! Thank you
You'll love this restaurant if...
1. You show up 15 minutes before your early (6:00 PM) reservation only to be told that there are no outdoor tables available on the terrace--one of the main reasons for going there in the first place. When asked why, a rather curt hostess says: We were "unexpectedly slammed" with other customers who reserved those tables.
2. On your way to a less than stellar indoor table you note there are 8 open tables on the terrace that remained so for the full 90 minutes we spent in the restaurant. I'm guessing those tables were reserved for Rancho Santa Fe "Royalty."
3. Your waiter looks and acts like he just stepped off the set of "Land of the Living Dead," who obviously hates his job, and hurries you through your meal as quickly as possible.
4. You find a paltry selection of mediocre wines by the glass; seriously, I've seen better selections at biker bars!
5. Your double-cut pork chop is so dry and overcooked you saw on it like Yo-Yo Ma playing Rimsky Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee" on the cello.
6. Your wife's chicken pot pie contains a nice little addition--a metal shard most likely from a pot scrubber--and when that problem brought to the attention of the wait staff nothing more is said or done about it. Nice touch.
Needless to say the Mrs. and I won't be in any big hot hurry to revisit.
Very limited menu for vegetarians
No bread basket or extras
Very limited menu period- very proud of the burger of the month
Not very attentive with water etc
No flowers on the table
Enjoyed the halibut in Thai curry, but for the price of the entree ($38) it was not a fine dinning experience
Great view, would not revisit unless staying at the hotel
The hostess lied to my face.
I drove to the Restuarant two days early today make sure everything would go off without a hitch.
1. The rezo was Taken incorrectly...had us down for sat at 10 it was suppose to be Sunday at 11!
2.I had the hostess walk me outside and tell me exactly where we would be sitting.✔️
She put it in the notes in the computer.
3.cake instructions were also Input into the computer. Send someone sat before 3 across street to thyme to pick up cake. Routine thing.
Thyme called at 3 on sat no one had picked up the bday cake.
We arrive Sunday and the hostess takes me to a table inside . Tells me to my face that the last meeting we had never happened. She never walked me to an outside table and said this is where you will be sitting. Then proceeds to try and sell me on the inside table after lying to my face.
So we sit inside.
We have to be out by 12.30 to get to helen Woodward on time. Server doesn't put the order in and then lies to me about it. Again, another liar . It seems to run in the 'family' here.
We were a half hour late to her special bday party at the animal center taking 30 min out of the hour and half party! Shame on you people!!!
During our extended period of time waiting for the lunch my sister leans over and says the manager that just checked on us used to work at my daughters school. He got in trouble for hitting on the young teen girls. Ugg way to go Starwood.
If you are looking for a nice place to hang out by the bar and drink wine with your friends while your kids run unsupervised around the restaurant with other kids then this is your new favorite place! But it wasn't mine. From the prices on the menu I assumed this was a date night type place. But when I commented on the frenzied nature of the bar area with a ton of kids running around and jumping off the stair landing (right next to our table) the hostess informed me that the crowd is local and they come with their kids. Awesome for them! But it was a waste of an expensive dinner for us - loud, frenzied, tasteless food. I will say the wait staff was kind and helpful - but I won't be back - unless I bring my young nephews to enjoy the zoo too.
Great food and great service. I read a few reviews that spoke poorly about the service but our server Kristen was fantastic. She was attentive, knew a lot about the menu, and had great recommendations.
The food was amazing. We shared Brussels sprouts , ricotta cheese spread and wagyu meatball as a table for appetizers. For dinner we had filet and halibut and we loved it. We go to a lot of high-end steak houses and this Filet was a good as anyone we have had over the years.
For dessert we had the apple pie and donuts and it was a great finisher.
Highly recommend it!
For an upscale hotel/resort, their restaurant could be much improved, especially the cuisine. The soup I had was thick, heavy and tasteless. A crab salad was given elaborate plating but neither had substance or much taste either, and was vastly overpriced for what it contained. The terrace is one of the most lovely places to dine in N. County San Diego. Needs outstanding food to compliment it.
Restaurant located within the hotel. Highly suggest making reservations, ours honored on time. Patio tables fill quickly. Friendly staff, Great service, Good food (small entree portions for the price), romantic, fantastic atmosphere, outside seating w/table-side heaters for those chilly nights. Our waitress didn't miss a beat. Children & Pets welcomed.
Morada was a great disappointment for me. When I was at University I came here nearly twice monthly for Sunday brunch and it was great: drinks, various delicious meat dishes and a great atmosphere. This week I talked a colleague into having supper there as a nostalgic treat for me as I hadn't been for many years. About the only thing left is the Atmosphere and great service. My pork shank was so dry I could hardly cut it. The accompanying vegetable and puffed rice were tasteless. Questioning my own observation, I asked my colleague to try a small piece -- same result. While not a large eater, I found my colleague's three small scallops as an entre for $36.00 odd to say the least. Besides our fine server, Robert, I was most pleased with the Wednesday half-off wine menu a good and generous deal. I rarely write a poor review, but with this one, I had no choice when asked.
We arrived 40 min early for our dinner reservation and they were able to accommodate us. We were seated on the patio which was very enjoyable due to the heaters and lovely lighting on the grounds. It was very quiet which was perfect as we were two old friends wanting to talk. Our server was present but not overbearing. I thought that the wine prices were a little inflated and there is not too much to choose from on the lower end of the scale. Our cheese and charcuterie board starter was very nice and ample. Our entrees were the wild salmon and braised short ribs. Both were delicious but not overly large portions. No doggie bags here. We shared the chocolate "candy Bar" dessert but was not very impressed. Was just OK. Overall, was a very pleasant experience and perfect for our needs that night. Would not be suitable for children or people looking for a "busy, lively" atmosphere.
The waitress took 10 minutes to greet us, and when she did she was rude. 10 minutes later she came back for our drink orders and wanted us to order food at the same time. When we asked if there were any specialsuggestions she said, "I don't think so, let me check." Before our food arrived, the power went out to the hotel and the kitchen was completely shut down, including the refrigerators so not even the salad could be served. After 20 min, we did get our salads but never got our main course. The rude one came back 30 min later to charge us for the salads and tell us we weren't getting anything else tonight. Really?
