MoonShine - Modern Supper Club Ratings and Reviews
The food is really great. We had scallops to start, and then the “sticky venison” and a special of the day, the “pastrami with pickled red cabbage and mushrooms:” all excellent. For dessert we had the “deconstructed pecan pie:” it disappointed me. I found it too sweet, with a supermarket-pie type of flavor.
The wine list is fantastic, and the cocktails we tried were also very good.
And the server was enthusiastic, professional and very friendly.
I’d definitely come back, although I’ll probably skip dessert.
Food was good but overpriced and somewhat pretentious. My steak, which was the most expensive item on the menu, came with no garnish and no sides. Just steak on plate. This didn’t really bother me too much but the rest of my party was infuriated that for $40 it was just dumped on a plate. Other than that, food was pretty good. Service was slow and waiters seemed not to know who was getting what food as it came out of the kitchen.
Overall a basic experience. The restaurant overall was beautiful, the service was excellent, but the food 100% left something to be desired. It was a safe "gourmet"/fine dining menu that could be kicked up a notch and what was "off the beaten path" left something to be desired. The drinks were awesome though and that plus the awesome staff, (aside from the off putting manager/owner or whoever was in charge) give this place the stars it earns from me.
Probably won't be back. The happy hour is a good deal, but for half priced beer, wine, and pizza, there's plenty of other places to check out in NJ
Second time at this restaraunt , the server was fine he was prompt and attentive, I do not think I will go back though , the food was Not good the cocktails were not good
The first time I went here the drinks were great interesting and different the food was out of this world it was different there were items on the menu I had never tried before
This time it was a very boring menu and the cocktails tasted like terpentine I will not go back due to this experience
This restaurant is a few little details short of what would be great. Little things like forgetting cheese on a hamburger, forgetting coffee orders, and the biggest gripe: hot dishes that were served to children were not given a heads up on the hotness of actual plate.- This place has great potential. a good ambience and decor. The bar downstairs has a very lounge-y feel with music being louder in this space. Everything sampled on the menu tasted great. Presentation was good as well. Overall a good experience but short on the little details that kept it from being great.
I was very excited to try this place however the service was a disappointment. The minute we stepped inside the hostess was rude and gave us attitude. We started with drinks at the bar and it took forever to grab someone's attention. We were then seated and it took almost 45 minutes before anyone stopped by to take our order. I understand there was a private event going on and this was probably the reason for the service, but it didn't make a good first impression. Probably would not go out of my way to dine here again.
Chic eatery in downtown Millburn. Creative cocktails, well rounded beer and wine list as well as large spirits menu for sipping or tasting flights.
A varied food menu offers choices for everyone and the items are generally nicely prepared. Our table had the entree hanger steak, deliciously charred to medium with a jalapeño cheddar polenta (could have been warmer ) Properly seared scallops with lovely vegetable sides were very tasty. The sticky venison with bao, broccoli I and cippolini onions was an interesting attempt, the venison was dry and could have used more sticky. Warm cookie dough with creme brulee gelato was a delicious finish.
Met a friend for Sunday Brunch . Usually brunches have loads of buffet style choices but Moonshine offered a select menu with really good selections. My friend and I shared appetizers -- donuts holes and butter lettuce salad; both excellent choices. We also chose different entrees and we both enjoyed what we ordered. The best part was, for an additional $10 we could add three brunch cocktails each: mimosa, bloody Mary and sangria (both red and white). Our waiter encouraged us to try all choices and boy did we! All were good and trust me, you would be happy with just one (or two)! This was a random choice for a leisurely brunch and an excellent choice.
We went for brunch and it was amazing! Not too crowded, not too dead either. It was a beautiful day so the doors were open so we were basically on the side walk without being in the sun. The food and drinks were spectacular! The price was great 30$ for appetizer/entree and 3 drinks! All the drinks were great too! Ask for Mark as your server he is there sundays for brunch! He was amazing!!
We have been meaning to try Moonshine for awhile now. So glad we did! The atmosphere is ultra modern and cool. The cocktail list was extensive and impressive! Our meal was over the top delicious. Everything was cooked perfectly and was so flavorful. Our server was knowledgeable on our questions and was very attentive. So so glad we ventured into Millburn's gem. The quality of service and food here is unlike any other in the area. Will be back soon!
We went too Sunday brunch. Fun menu with great choices. We both had the frisse salad which was spot on. I had the duck confit with waffles and My husband had the short rib hash. Both were presented nicely and were delicious. The service was very attentive.
We will be back.
booked through open table for late brunch after daughter's recital. a nice family meal. when we got there we were informed that open table was wrong, they do not have seating available, but can seat us at a table in the bar area. we felt it was good and comfortable enough and not worth the pain of looking for another place last minute with 2 young kids. will give restaurant credit for accommodating and will ding open table for this. however, once we got there, service was absolutely terrible, saw our waiter barely twice and did not feel cared for at all. it was horrible. instead of leaving our customary 25% tip we left nothing. never did that before. i know it's hard to wait on a party seated in a different area when you're full, but please, this is just not right.
