The food was delicious. I had a burger and carrot cake for desert...both of which where yummy. We went for Brunch on a Sunday. There was 2 other large tables besides us that seemed to be celebrating a birthday or event. We were a party of 6. The service was my only complaint. We asked for more water and more ketchup b/c no one came over to our table to see if we needed anything. Once we did ask, they totally forgot. Coffee and Hot tea came in such a small cup. They had lattes but no skim milk to make them with...thought that was strange. Overall, the food was good but service needs improvement!
Food was very good, but loud and pricey for our Saturday dinner out with our 4 children... Probably better for a date night
I have been coming for years and the food was always good. Saturday night was a bust. The food was not good. Everything was drenched in oil. Dessert cheesecake was inedible. While our waiter was so nice and sweet, we could barely hear him with the noise level. We sat in-between two speakers and the result was loud noise, not music.
We were presently surprised by the great food and service ! Great variety of dishes with something to please everyone! we basically tried everything on the menu and everything !
We made reservations a week early . We were sat next to the bathroom which I hate, with plenty of open tables around us. The octopus was hard as a rock and the service was lacking. They never came back around to get another drink Order after the first one.
My husband had a prefix dinner. He enjoyed his meal very much. The food is flavorful and good. The service excellent. We will go come back again
Overall this is a good restaurant - the service was probably the best part - several, very attentive people checking in and making sure everything was on point. When they were out of the drink we requested, they offered to substitute another, free of charge (that substitute accidentally wound up on our bill anyway, but when this was pointed out they very graciously removed it). Our actual server was very polite and attentive, but was new and was not yet familiar with the food (mispronounced about 5 of the menu items and it was clear probably had not tasted them - at first it was hard to know what she was talking about - this is not a big deal but makes the restaurant look less polished than it is - would be worth their making sure new staff can pronounce ingredients and dishes that may be unfamiliar to them). Food was creative and overall very tasty. Wish they had an additional vegan entree.
RE: atmosphere, it seems as though this place still has not decided quite what it wants to be. Outside there are purple lights and give a dance club vibe. Inside it's painted very dark throughout, and the downstairs read more like a 20-30 something bar or club. Upstairs it's still pretty dark and the decor gives a nod to the club feel but it's more of a restaurant atmosphere. We had booked the dinner here b/c of the great reviews, but had we just driven by we never would have thought to check it out as a restaurant.
Only other thing that is absolutely no big deal but may be worth the restaurant paying attention is the little details - not sure why a restaurant that aims to appear higher end would stock Bud Light, and when we walked in, noticed a bag of sugared mini donuts on the hostess desk - again, not a significant thing, but makes the place look less upscale. Staff are almost all very young and although super nice, would be worth training them that the little details contribute to the overall ambience. But again, service generally extremely good and very attentive.
Small narrow table for two, very dark room difficult to read the menu, good service, food was tasty but expresso was not hot. Drinks not great in a metal glass!
I ofren eat here prior to seeing a show at the Papermill Playhouse. Food and drinks are great and the service is good. They always get me out on time for the show.
Great energy! Fun night out.
The food was great and their cocktails were excellent.
Very nice place, comfortable walk from Papermill Playhouse. Diverse menu, excellent cocktails
Moonshine is a nice suburban restaurant. However, I feel that the service is inconsistent. We had 2 servers...the first seemed dismissive. The second server was much better.
Varied menu. Great food. Excellent service. Awesome beer selection.
Moonshine offers the best value for brunch in all of Essex county. Who can beat a generous cocktail, appetizer and Main course for 25 bucks? And the food is excellent
Moonshine never disappoints! Great food, great ambiance. Creative drinks. And amazing service!
The menu was creative and well executed. The food is delicious! The decor is stylish and swanky. Moonshine is an excellent value.
However, at this visit, the service was lacking: the waiter was inattentive, he didn't know which ingredients/dishes were unavailable that night, and he served dishes to the wrong person at the table.
Recommended by Papermill Playhouse. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Wife and I has good house salads. Both special entrees were not flavorful, wife's pork chops were undercooked as medium and my halibut had no taste (baked, not grilled, and no seasoning). I'm glad I had 20% discount as $36 for pork and $32 for fish wasn't worth it!
Great place for a date! Or if it’s just date night.
Excellent service and food. We sat upstairs and were able to talk without shouting. Food and service excellent!
Food and service were fabulous although not sure where Moonshine comes in...name is a little misleading as you'd expect them to have something to offer around moonshine cocktails. Other than that, great time.
the entrance was too crowded, the bar area was obnoxiously loud which you can hear in the dining area since the 2 areas are only separated by a wall. the food was mediocre at best. We had the octopus for appetizer and it was chewy. I had the scallops for my entree and it was ok but not great, a bit over priced for that quality. My daughter's steak was over cooked and we could have honestly made better at home. It did not come with sides. for that price point, there should have been sides especially since the steak was nothing special and was overcooked. my husband had the chicken and it was over cooked. good portion but no flavor since it was dry. the sides it came with was nothing worth writing home about. The creme brulee was under cooked, the middle was watery, sugar was too thick. we wanted to like this place but I think one and done for us. the staff were nice. maybe we will revisit when we forget this experience.
Had an excellent experience. Wait staff very accommodating and appropriately attentive. Elise was quite delightful and helpful w suggestions. Had a drink at the lively bar after dinner and Ava and Gwen had excellent customer service skills and made great cocktails. Will definitely go back again.
I’ve been here numerous times and can’t get enough. I went for brunch this morning with my wife and noticed a slight change in the menu. I had the steak and eggs and water. My wife had the burger and two red sangria. I was a little disappointed to be charged the same as her even though I don’t drink. I also missed the corn muffins that were offered before instead of the sliced bagel. Other than that, you still get 5 starts from me for outstanding service. I will always recommend this place. Keep up the great work. You guys always rock it out the park.
Food was good but too heavy and gave me acid reflux . Service was ok.
We sat in the lounge and had the best service by Ava. The food was phenomenal as well!
I have been to moonshine a couple times and every time I come back it is truly amazing. It was a great place to have a relaxing date night to unwind.
Becomes a different place after 10pm. DJ sucks. Music louder than 1Oak. Fod horrible. Service even worse.
What a wonderful surprise to have found Moonshine. We had an excellent dining experience from the lovely ambience, cool air conditioning on a hot evening, a very friendly and helpful server Daniel, an attentive manager, and delicious and interesting food. The appetizer ribs were terrific and the charcuterie platter very tasty and generous. They also had a good and varied selection of draft beers. Definitely will recommend and worth a drive if need be. A great find.
The food is exquisite. The service is outstanding. Always a special experience.
Very lovely brunch with an affordable menu and great options
I ordered the salmon and replaced my side with spinach. My spinach was cold and bland. My salmon was also bland. After the first bite, I immediately regretted my ordering decision. Everyone else at the table seem to enjoy their food. I think I ordered the wrong dish. I didn’t send the cold spinach back because I have a fear of things happening to my food when I send it back. I can’t say with certainty that I will dine here again after having such a horrible meal. However, the ambiance was nice. My waiter was amazing. My dessert was delicious.
This is a very cool spot! Yummy choices on the menu - the scallops entree was delicious as well as the calamari appetizer. We were a little disappointed in the octopus appetizer- it was a little chewy and over cooked. Overall though, we enjoyed our meal here!
A nice overall experience. The music was initially very loud when we sat down and they were kind enough to lower it at our request. Staff was knowledgeable and helpful. The waiter helped us decide our meals and both dinners were very good. A little pricey, but worth it for a once-in-a-while kind of night.
We had our family of 9 there for lunch. Good food, interesting and tasty cocktails, incredibly nice and helpful staff. I want to check out the place for happy hour now.
The food was at best average. A ton of servers around, yet we asked for everything at least twice. Veal chop was $47 served with NO sides. Very overpriced for an average experience
Great drinks and very lively bar scene with amazing music
Thanks to Chris we had great meeting.
This is the second time we ate here. We loved the first time. We also loved the second time. My husband and I had prefix menus. The food was cooked very well. The bread was delicious. Salad, calamari was very good. The meal was delicious The service was good. They didn’t put salt on my food and put sauce on the side as I requested. The deserts was delicious. We will come back. We were very happy
