MoonFish - Orlando Ratings and Reviews
My fish was over cooked. It took awhile to get it redone. They did offer some oysters to compensate. The meal took over 2 hours and we were there at 6:30 when they were not that busy. Hard to get a server. The main course come out after a 50 minute wait. The desert was over a 30 minute wait. The prices are very high. I am not a fan.
I rarely, almost never write reviews but I find it necessary this time. Went to MoonFish on Saturday January 6, 2018, for my fiancée birthday . Had reservation but since it was happy hour sat in the bar area. Our waiter was great, but I think the kitchen was running slow that night. Ordered sushi and it was great. Ordered a second sushi and drinks. Then I ordered the special which was filet, scallops and lobster. Ask the waiter to make sure the scallops were “done” . Big mistake. Plate came out and scallops had black charring smudges. Tasted the scallops and they tasted like someone had rubbed the scallops across a burnt grill and they were still raw in the middle. The filet was excellent. Then came the lobster tail. I took one bite and noticed a funky taste. Took another bite and had to spit it out. Honestly , and I am not exaggerating, it tasted like dirty. So I ate the filet and left the lobster and scallops on the plate asked for my check and left. We were running late for an engagement. I’ve been to MoonFish in the past and it was good but this was a bad experience for me.
We ordered an appetizers and our food at once. The app came out I. A timely matter. It was 44 minutes later and still no food. The server was not very attentive. We told them in the beginning we had an event for NYE abs would like to move alone. Once the food came out the manager brought it and apologized. I ordered the stuffed crab shrimps and they tasted like they had cinnamon in them. Nothing compared to Eddie V’s!!!!!!!
Went for New Years Eve. Made a reservation in advance was excited to enjoy a nice dinner with my husband. When we arrived the team at the hostess stand greeted us and asked if we had a reservation. It took a few minutes for them to figure out where they were going to seat us then off we went to a very little booth in a small room off the bar next to a big party. Not quite what we had in mind for a intimate fancy NYE dinner. We decided the atmosphere at the bar would be better and told the hostess as we walked by what we decided. They didn't seem to care. The bar staff was terrific really made up for the uncaring hostesses. There is a big salt water tank behind the bar and the decor was very appealing. The menu had lots of great choices. The bartender made some great recommendations. The food was delicious. Nice sized portions, great presentation and prepared perfectly. I had the Macadamia Nut crusted Mahi and my husband had the surf and turf. Everything from the bread,to the salad, to the entree was incredibly tasty.
Good wine selection and lots of crafted cocktails to pick from. Glad we didn't give up.
Our Server Kevin wasn't attentive at all. Drinks went unfilled and he didn't come back to find out my MR steak was MW. We had to have another server take it back to the chef. The MOD Mo, was very helpful in remedying the situation. He even offered us some oysters while we waited for the new steak to be cooked.
Was very excited about Chilean sea bass was very disappointed was suppose to be grilled was very very bland did not taste like Chilean sea bass every place I ever got this dish it melts in your mouth this did not and over priced for fake sea bass . I get tilapia from bjs frozen that I prepare at home that tastes 100 percent better . The table behind us also got sea bass and was expressing the same thoughts. Over all very disappointed for our Christmas Eve dinner .
If you are wondering about Moonfish as a place to try, then by all means book a reservation or drop in for happy hour. You will NOT be disappointed. Excellent food and superior service.
About now you may be thinking, ok, this guy works there is trying to promote the place. Well,no I do NOT work there, I just enjoy the place so much that my review sounds this way.
Do yourself a favor. Make a reservation, ask for Shannon as your server and enjoy.
By the way, it is common that we see multiple managers stop by EVERY table. They care and it shows!
My hubby and I were in Orlando for a week and we were looking for a seafood restaurant online where We can have a romantic dinner for my birthday. And we found this gem. When we took an uber from the airport the day before we asked our uber driver what seafood restaurants he could recommend in the area and surely He said Moonfish. Everything we ordered was delicious and I loved the presentation. Our servers were very accommodating. All their staff were warm and welcoming. The place was clean and cozy. Overall it made our night very special.
The evening was great. Our server was new and the manager checked in on us to make sure all was well.
I have to say I was taken aback by some of the portions. We ordered a side of asparagus and was told it would be 6-8 pieces of the larger asparagus and would be enough to share for 3 people. I was shocked when it arrived with 4 stalks of asparagus.
We were also debating between the triggerfish on the menu and the triggerfish that was on special that night. They had the same sides and both topped with crab meat. When asking the waitress which was better she said the special - so we ordered the special. I was shocked when I received the bill and the special was $49.95 (and regular menu item was $34.99). I asked the waitress and she said the special had more crab meat on it and then came back and said the special had foie gras butter sauce - but she neglected to mention that when she described the special. I never would have ordered it if I had known the cost - I should of asked. I was not that impressed with the fish special and should have ordered a filet instead.
I would return to this restaurant because it has great service and ambiance and menu selection. We just had a new server and miscommunication.
It was my eleven year anniversary with my wife. We have came her every anniversary three years in a row. Service was great every time except this night. The service was at bare minimum my Waiter did his job but didn't big the experience of Moonfish. Didn't offer a wine or suggested an appetizer. We got both anyway but the server before brought it amusing apps , let us sample a taste of a wine selection we got it All but tonight I felt he was done and wanted to go home it's ok I'm always coming back but that night he did his job no flare!! He still did his job but I guess I wanted to be sold on the experience to spend more and I didn't thanks will be back
Overpriced and somewhat pretentious. Ordered a $37 ahi tuna, that was quite good, but came on a empty plate. There should have been a side included.
Food was good In general, and our waitress tried hard, but came across as totally scripted
It was my wife’s birthday, and let them know it when I placed the reservation. They acknowledged it with some rose petals on the table. With a $200 dinner tab, a piece of cake and a candle should have been offered
So many other choices in the area that beckon
