Mooncussers Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Best restaurant on the Cape! As a Harwich High School graduate living in Atlanta, GA this restaurant exceeds all expectations. Creative dishes, freshest of food, awesome Cape Cod atmosphere. Get a table with Alex. She is awesome. Incredible service. One of my favorite places and an incredible wine list.
We always enjoy our meals here since they have a variety of small plates two of which can be put together to comprise a meal (or one will do for a small appetite). The selections are for the most part creative. The hamburgers are even great. Overall the meal isn't too pricey. We have had friends meet us here; they have said they would come back.
Have been here several times but not in the last year and was looking forward to the cozy tavern experience with very good food that I had had in the past. The tavern seemed to have lost its cozy atmosphere - lighting, tables, etc. - seemed to have been neglected. This place has the potential to be a great authentic tavern dining experience but they seemed to have lost the attention to detail. The service was friendly but lacked sophistnication - waitress literally put her hand on our plates when leaning across the table instead of walking around the table, and when we asked if the lights could be turned down she said no, then asked the bartender who did indeed turn them down. It was obvious the lights had been turned on to clean prior to dining hours and then left on - again, no attention to detail. The food did not quite live up to the menu which is very interesting - pork belly was rubbery, not succulent e.g.
I would summarize by saying that there seems to be an overall absence of oversight by ownership and I would suggest ownership get back involved in taking a hard look at the experience and training of staff, quality and consistency of the menu, and a fresh look at the decor. It's all in the details and this could be one of our favorite restaurants - otherwise we will move on and be disappointed in having to do so.
Drambui mussels were excellent. This was the second time we enjoyed them. The braised special was a short rim and marrow bone with polenta and sugar pumpkin. The meat was tender but way too salty. The polenta made everything taste like grits and mashed potato would have been s much better accompaniment. The waitress told us it would be mashed potato and it wasn’t. The haddock was good but the sauce again too salty and overpowering. Had what the waitress said was bread pudding but it was some dry cake ball.
The food is outstanding. The size of the entrees was huge. I would recommend choosing tapas and sharing them or ordering tapas and one or two entrees for four people. I would appreciate the restaurant offering half-size portions. The waitstaff was very helpful and checked with the kitchen to see what options I might have that did not include garlic. The kitchen staff was very cooperative in accommodating my preference. Every one in the party was extremely pleased with the meal.
WE WENT TO MOONCUSSERS OFF-SEASON IN NOVEMBER. THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT AND WE WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND, JUST BEWARE THAT THE TAPAS ARE MORE LIKE FULL-SIZE ENTREES. WE'RE USED TO MUCH SMALLER TAPAS SO WE OVER ORDERED BUT ENJOYED EVERYTHING AND BROUGHT HOME OUR LAST TWO TAPAS FOR LUNCH!
We dined at Mooncussers three times this year and each meal was superb. We often stick to the tapas, and you can't go wrong there. But I finally had the steak frites last time and it was cooked to perfection, with fabulous fries. The very gracious owner always drops by to say hello. Highly recommended.
Recommended by the owner of Inn we were staying and was not disappointed. A real Cape Cod feel. Warm and inviting. Tables were separated enough to make it more intimate for you and your guest. My wife had the seared scallops and she was gracious enough to give me one ;^} and I had the salmon. Both meals outstanding. There was a mix of clientele including variations in dress, so coming in jeans was good. The owner stopped by to ask how everything was, so I always think that's a nice touch. We asked him what a mooncusser was ... You'll have to ask him. Great dinning experience!!
Food and drinks were top notch. Many options to choose from, ranging from seafood to steak, and even an ostrich special. The cheese and charcuterie plates were outstanding. We were celebrating our youngest son's 23 birthday, and had our two grandchildren ages 6 and 8 with us. While I wouldn't go so far as to say this restaurant is particularly child-friendly, our server was wonderful with the children, and his patience (and excitement over their adventurous palettes) made it a wonderful evening for us all. Highly recommend!
I'm a big fan of this place. We typically eat in the bar as it is a little more casual and lively. The menu is fantastic, a mix of tapas and main courses. There are some standards but most have a creative twist and none have disappointed thus far. Service is always prompt, friendly, and personable.
A bit awkward: even though we had made a reservation for four the owner seated each couple in a separate dining room where we each waited 30 minutes before texting each other to see if they/ we had forgotten! A little annoying as the restaurant was very slow on Tuesday night. Should have offered a dessert or something for inconvenience!
My parents always pick the same three restaurants on the Cape and now they have a fourth for the rotation. The fish was well prepared and seasoned. Our server, with a bit of an accent, could not have tried harder to be polite and accommodating. We had an issue with the AC blowing directly on us and they fixed it right away.
Went for brunch with my parents and husband on a Sunday morning. I ordered the surf and turf Benedict which had gravlax and coppa, next time I want to try just the straight up Benedict with coppa because it was delicious. The rosemary hollandaise is fantastic. They had good food, great service, and a comfortable tavern vibe. We've been for dinner before as well, I definitely recommend stopping by for some tapas! It's a kid friendly spot with a great little patio outside when the weather is nice. Don't miss it!
it was our first time there and we had a party of six. we sat in the main dining room which was very comfortable. Appetizers and salads were very good. I had the pork special which was excellent. everyone loved their meals and the cheesecake as a great way to finish of the meal. Definitely will be back soon.
