The table was too small to3 people and was a little dark also
This place is on a non descript road that is frequently traveled and is a hidden gem.
Where else can you get quality food, excellently prepared at a good value? Go for the pork chop or salmon yet many other choices on the menu that I am sure are equally as good.
Menu was varied and descriptive.. Food quality was excellent and service very good. Made reservation and no waiting. Will be going back.
Summer service and the two meals I had there this summer were wonderful, prepared just as ordered, and delicious. This was the main reason I chose to return to Mooncusser's for a special dinner.. Unfortunately the steak was over cooked for medium while the pork chop was cooked just right and was delicious. Our appetizer of mussels was wonderful. No dessert was ordered. The two gripes I have with service anywhere is when the wait person does not ask almost immediately "is your meal prepared as you wanted it" and secondly, clearing one person's dishes when the other is still eating.. Both those happened. Five stars this summer, three last night.
We had the black truffle fries (divine), tuna poke bowl, duck breast. All outstanding in presentation and taste. Cocktail prepared exactly as ordered, good selection on beer and wine. The service was perfect; ambience delightful. Overall, a very enjoyable evening and memorable dinner. Will return
Always enjoy ourselves
Great Cape atmosphere and outstanding food and wine!
There were four in our party. One started with the Quahog and then the duck; one had the pork chop as the main; two of us shared the mussels as a starter and then one had the seared tuna; the other had the candied walnut salad with salmon. All were very good, I've always had the mussels as my main, but decided to switch it up and the tuna was very tasty with just the right amount of kick.
Mooncusser is always reliable. We like the Tavern which is lively and busy and sometimes louder than other options for seating.
The food is reliably good. Nice wine list and excellent cocktails.
The owner hosts and hostess are seemingly always on the premises. They are pleasant and focused on the guests having a good time. It is a very busy restaurant but they manage to be pleasant and helpful all the time.
Good for small and large groups. A great place with both local and travelers or resort visitors .
Wonderful food as usual and great service as usual! It's quiet in the dining room or a little more noisy in the tavern so you can have your pick :-)
Loved the place! We are on vacation, and it was suggested by our inn as a good place for dinner. Parking was a challenge (Fri night) but we received a warm welcome and enjoyed our choices from the menu. Warning- portions are very generous!
The risotto was fab- we added scallops and it was even better! Sticky toffee pudding is a classic English dessert that we love- my husband is from London- so that was an extra sweet treat! The biggest drawback was the noise level- but that was partly due to an extremely loud party of 6 next to us, as well as the bar( completely full) in the same room. We could not converse easily and could barely hear our wonderful waiter! Oh well- still enjoyed it and recommend it!
Really enjoyed the evening. The duck was delicious and different. Others in our party agree. Thanks.
Menu was limited. Korean beef was more like it’s French counterpart and too salty. Duck breast was tasty. We celebrated a birthday but little was made of it. Probably won’t return.
Had been there many times before. i actually thought that I had booked a 6:45 for Friday and when I got there, it was a wedding rehearsal private party. i check my reservation and realized that it was for Saturday night. I came Saturday night at 6:45 and had a wonderful dinner with my wife. Mussels appetizer was great. I had a plain Jane burger and my wife had the Bouillabaisse and both were excellent. We finished off with a Sticky Pudding, yum.
We had an Excellent dinner. Our waitress jane was Awesome!
Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
Happy with the ambiance & service. Disappointed with the short rib dinner…meat overcooked…didn’t fall apart as it should. Instead of mashed potatoes, grits…very little….question is , “why not potatoes?”
Salmon meal was okay. Think for the price….quality should have been better.
Very disappointing. The food was poor quality. I ordered steak frites and I think I was served the sole of a shoe. Very tough and no juice at all. Hand to send it back and get replacement dinner. Would not return here.
I mentioned in my reservation that it was a family reunion and we were given a separate room. The manager was so friendly, our waiter efficient and the food delicious.
It special effort to give us a private room made the evening
Great quality food. Been several times and always is a nice evening
Lots of places on the Cape are short-staffed and mooncusserd is no exception. Duck was overcooked, burger was cold. Mussels good but overpriced, especially considering some were unopened and therefore not fit to eat. Suggest a more limited menu would help this place manage with fewer staff.
A wonderful place for a quiet candlelit dinner. Unusual menu with great bsriety.
Always Amazing...And Seafood Pappardelle was back...Awesome dish!
It was awful. Ice water without ice, warm Saratoga water, bouillabaisse that wasn’t bouillabaisse, salads were good. We were seated in the front parking lot. Plantings way past it for the second weekend of September. I think they were tired and the staff we had didn’t care.
We were so looking forward to trying this restaurant, however we were deeply disappointed.
Based on the reviews we had high expectations, but based our experience we won’t be back…
The restaurant was not full, yet had very limited parking and it was full… The restaurant itself was very quaint and attractive, but was very loud (making dinner conversation difficult) and everyone working there seemed so rushed and exasperated… I understand COVID has led to staff shortages… but they did not seem short staffed…. but from the owner to the staff, most were not very welcoming, friendly, attentive or apologetic when things didn’t go right. Menu selections were very limited and an odd mixture of varying cuisines not very reflective of Cape Cod and local fare…
Food quality and presentation was ok in most cases… however, the muscles dijonnaisse were the tiniest PEI muscles we have ever seen at any venue… to the point most were much smaller than a pistachio more like a tiny pea…. and should never have been served to any customer. When brought to the owners attention she was overly defensive vs accommodating. We brought this to her attention so they could discuss the quality with their purveyor… and maybe save further embarrassment… When the bill came, our waitress did finally apologize and removed the item from our bill.
All in all… This restaurant did not live up to our expectations…
Such nice hosts and waitstaff! Delicious food and nice atmosphere.
A phenomenal experience! We sat in the dining room area and started off with martinis, I had the Royal Purple martini with empress gin, so good! We had the short rib Street tacos as an appetizer, wow, they were incredible, so flavorful! My husband had the Moncusser burger, he loved every bite, huge burger!! I had the steak frites with the black truffle Parmesan fries, steak was tender and the fries were to die for! Our waitress was awesome and we loved chatting with her. We’ve driven by countless times are are upset we haven’t come sooner!
Jane was outstanding. Awesome meal. Quiet romantic eve. Owner was extremely friendly and told us the history.
We had a terrific meal and the atmosphere was very relaxing.
Food was delicious. Service was great. Fantastic evening !
Nice welcome. Great service. Creative menu well
Executed. Nice wine list with plenty by the glass.
Super restaurant, food, ambiance, server, and value! Definitely try it!!!
We love Mooncussers and eat there once or twice a month. We are so glad the Wisemans have managed to thrive during the pandemic. Ben, our server last night, was great, both personable and attentive. The food was amazing as usual, we had the venison stuffed quahogs and street corn for appetizers. For entrees, I had the seared tuna, hubby had the tomahawk pork chop (impressive!) and our friend had the risotto (they did not add a protein). Dessert was a special of beignets, super yummy!
My only suggestion would be to offer some poultry options from time to time.
This is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant that caters to locals with a few tourists who have found the great reviews and seek them out. The owner and the staff are mature adults who offer smiles, good food, and great service. The fresh seafood, that we had, was well prepared and very tasty. Our first trip, seated outside, resulted in our second trip a few days later where we sat inside and felt safe despite pandemic concerns. The staff is fully vaccinated. As visitors, we look forward to our next visit to the Cape and Mooncussers.
Everything was wonderful!
Loved everything about it!
This is a "hidden" gem. I've often passed by in travels and never ate here before but was pleasantly surprised by the food, both preparation and quality. Here the main entree stands out as the prepared dishes are straight forward as described and not messy as some chefs try to be creative. I had one of the best prepared pork chops ever, cooked perfectly and moist. Everyone else in my group raved about their meals.
Salads were very fresh and tasty. Service was well paced and attentive.
We absolutely love Mooncussers! Our bartender, Matt was super attentive and engaging. The food is always perfect. One of our favorite gems on the Cape!
Very disappointed in this visit. Servers were very pleasant, but food was very slow coming out of the kitchen.
The acoustics were horrible, making it very difficult to carry on a conversation.
Food was only so-so.
Wasn’t my first , but was certainly my worst visit.
The stuffed quahog and fish and chips special were excellent!
The best place we ate on the Cape all week. American cuisine with a twist. Highly recommend but make a reservation or you’ll be waiting awhile.
