We were there for dinner on a Friday evening. We had the duck pate and scallops, both very good and recommended. The service was also very good. Sadly, like pretty much all the better dining restaurants in Truckee, you need to be satisfied enjoying your food because conversation with your dining partner(s) is almost impossible due to the noise level.
We had a wonderful meal at Moody's. We had the mushroom pizza and duck hot dogs to start. Both were amazing. Our main courses were also fabulous. We tried the unique rabbit dish the carrot salad with pork belly and the scallops and steak. Our server was excellent and made the meal that much better. Also great cocktails.
Great food and service. Has become our go to restaurant in Truckee now.
The food was mediocre at best. They did have our OpenTable reservation and we were seated directly when we checked in despite the line of people waiting. Overall I do believe that there are better restaurant options within the immediate area that I would choose before returning to Moody's.
The food was amazing! The service was awesome. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. I will definitely return.
The food is always amazing! Live music was great, service was perfect.
Always a great experience!
We are locals and eat here often. It is usually energetic in noise level but this time it was overpowering. There was a party of at least 20 people seated and the dining room is too small and acousticly poor to accommodate a boisterous party. Our dining experience was ruined because we could not talk over the noise. I suggested they put parties like that in the back room and was told there was already a private party in the back room. So I guess the coffers of Moodys won and we lost this time. I will go back but I will always ask if there is a big party when I make my reservation. On another note, in the summer there is a back patio which is much quieter than the inside.
We went on St. Patrick’s Day and it was very crowded! Many restaurants in Truckee are struggling, but Moody’s was very busy and not hurting for business.
Always amazing food and service!
I arrived here with two friends for an apres-ski dinner. We had reservations but had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated...apologies were made by the host. Unfortunately, the waiter was not nearly as gracious. When asked about drinks, one of our party asked if he had a particular type of whiskey, to which he responded "no" and immediately walked off instead of making suggestions. When he came back he made it clear that he wasn't interested in discussing types of whiskey that the restaurant did have. This conversation was ridiculous and the waiter clearly projected a snotty and superior attitude. He then proceeded to avoid coming to our table so that it took ages to actually order any food. His responses to our questions were curt and uninformative. When the food did come, my dish (Steak Frites) had a horrible cut of meat. I understand that the meat in this dish should be well-marbled beef, but my serving was almost inedible because it was mostly fat with a tiny bit of lean attached. The sauce and french fries were OK, but I couldn't eat most of the meat. Normally I would have engaged the waiter and sent the food back but at this point I just wanted to get the heck out of there and not be subjecte to any more abuse by the waiter. I will never return to this restaurant.
The food was quite inventive and tasty and the live music and drinks were great.
Of our group, two got burgers that came with fries. Both thought that the fries were too salty. I tasted the fries and agreed. Not much on the menu for vegetarians, and not much seafood choice. But the food was very good.
We've eaten here a couple of times now and the food has been executed well each time. Good vibe, with a nice bar making craft cocktails, and a solid menu.
We enjoyed our meal, service & the music on a busy Friday night.
Celebrated my “30-30” birthday there and it couldn’t have been better! The waitstaff treated us like Gold and the food was fabulous!!!! Love Moody’s!
Moody's does not disappoint! I was up there for a girls' weekend and visited Moody's for dinner, drinks and dancing. The babette steak and frites with bernaise was so good we came back the next night for seconds. The entertainment was delightful, with Christopher Hawley Rollers providing a great soundtrack for dancing. The first night we sat in the midst of the front dining room where all the action was, and the second night we sat at the bar. Sarah was amazing and attentive with a fantastic Old Fashioned, a healthy pour of a delicious French red, and oh those truffle fries. Can't wait to come back for more!
Tried for the first time. Service was somewhat slow but the food was excellent. Very creative menu. The drinks were handcrafted and tasted great. Overall it was a great exoerience.
We enjoyed a delicious & creative rib eye with veggies which my husband & I shared. This is a cozy place which was full on a Thursday night. This is not "knock your socks off" food but it is very tasty & well-done. We will return for sure when we return to Truckee. Friends recommended this place to us and we will recommend it to our friends as well.
We were sat at an extremely small 2 top table in the corner with the wall on one side and the next table less than a foot to the other side. Table was not even big enough to place a pizza and drinks on it. Thankfully the 4 people at the adjoining table were friendly. The French onion soup was excellent as was the wine. The pizza had no flavor. Great service but the table location made it one of the most disappointing dining experiences we had on our trip to Lake Tahoe.
Innovative but approachable food. Great combinations of unexpected ingredients. Excellent service. Can be noisy but worth it for the food. Great live music too!
The hamburger was juicy and flavorful. Our waiter said it was the best in Truckee and he was right!
My family, especially my 2 kids, loved the varieties of foods they liked. The service and staffs were very attentive and therefore, the service was excellent!
Made a reservation and made the drive up from Sac for date night for food and live music. Good atmosphere, drinks a bit pricey,
food is ok but a bit overpriced. I guess you can do that when your hot spot in town. Had
fun. Shoulda checked the bill before paying. Got charged for two extra high end glasses of wine we didn’t order. I guess that’s what happens when your getting a buzz and having fun.
Good food and lively atmosphere. Great spot for a Friday night date.
Waitstaff was very attentive. Food very good. Unfortunately the manager was terrible. A large table of men (sorry, just a fact) behind ours was very roudy and loud. Why do some diners act as though they are in their own homes?!
We asked the server to ask the loud table to keep it down. He did not. We asked again and the manager came over to ask us what our problem was. We explained and asked that he request the loud table to turn the volume down. He refused, saying that it’s a restaurant. The implication being that they had every right to their raucousness and lack of consideration for other patrons. The manager said he’d move us to another table. We were almost done with our meal at this point so we declined.
In my opinion, poorly handled and we will not return.
Food is absolutely incredible. Everything from the Maine Lobster Roll appetizer, to the Scallops main course, to the creme brule! So tasty!
Amazing food, great service
Always a nice atmosphere and attentive service. An early reservation insures a great table with moderate noise level.
We have gone to Moody's for the last 3 years on our family ski trip. Their prices have risen since then. On our recent visit, they were busy but not packed. Certainly we have been there when they were busier. We waited 45 mins for our food to arrive. My husband and I both ordered the black cod. It was only lukewarm, the dish it self was visually pleasing but very bland in taste. The entree cost $34. I felt that it was overpriced for what we received. My son ordered the hamburger and fries. The hamburger bun was soggy, the fries were tasteless. My daughter ordered the campanelle dish, the pasta was rubbery. We will not be going back to Moody's again.
Highly recommend this restaurant. Food was excellent. We arrived at the time of our reservation and were seated immediately. Staff was very attentive and at no point did we feel rushed. Give Moody’s a shot if you haven’t visited before.
French onion soup and cremebrulee are to die for!
Great little spot. Nice atmosphere. For appetizers we had ahi poke which was as good as I've had anywhere and an interesting dish made with romanesco which neither my wife nor I had ever had before. I had spaghetti with lamb ragout which was very good and my wife had duck which was rich and flavorful. All great but the star of the meal was the pizza my daughter ordered. Wasn't expecting anything special but it was probably the best pizza I've ever had in California and most places on the east coast. Only negatives were that when the place gets really busy - which is probably every weekend - you need to walk a bit for parking and service gets slow since the waiters have to weave through the crowd at the bar.
We always have a fun time at Moody's, and the food is solid. We live in the Bay Area, and we typically come to Moody's as part of a ski trip to Soda Springs/Tahoe to give us one night free from cooking on our own. Our 8-year-old likes the pizza and burgers, and the adults love the higher end comfort food, like duck, pork chops, and "fancy" burger. The food isn't cheap, but the quality is high. We often end up in the bar portion of the restaurant, which is a bit louder and livelier, and good for kids who can watch the old black and white cartoons projected (without sound) onto one corner wall. We like the cozy, friendly vibe, and we'll certainly return again on future trips.
Always great!
Nice atmosphere and great food, a great choice near Northstar resort.
Loved it all! Moody’s is our go to place!
Wonderful evening of music and great good. Love music with Truckee jazz bands. Food was AMaZIng! Especially loved the Pork chop.
Excellent food and service, as always. These guys know how to run a great restaurant.
Hanger steak, pork chop off the charts delicious.
