Monty's Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Monty's never disappoints. The service is always top-notch especially if you dine in Amanda's section!! The Roquefort Salad is a favorite to share. Oysters are always fresh and flavorful. Onion Soup is excellent. The steaks are quality beef and the Chef prepares each order perfectly. Another favorite here is the Fried Chicken served with honey, mashed potatoes and peas. On rare occasions, we will splurge and order the Sundae which is worth the calories.
We went to Monty's with another couple to celebrate our anniversary. Everyone else ordered rib eye steaks while I ordered a New York steak, which I've had there on prior occassions. We shared a Caesar salad which was dellicious. Then they brought the steaks, including a rib eye for me. I don't like rib eye steaks because they're so fatty. However, since everyone else's steak had just been served, I opted to eat it and not wait the additional 10-15 minutes for them to cook the New York steak which I had ordered. While we all enjoy salt on our meat, we all agreed that the steaks had way too much of it. My steak was a little tough and definitely too fatty. We also ordered creamed spinach and a giant baked potato for the table. Both were delicious.
When the bill came, they charged me for a rib eye, not a New York steak. When brought to their attention, they reduced the charge by the slight difference in price between the 2 steaks. We were pleasantly surprised when they brought a compliemntary ice cream sundae for our anniversary. We will return for one more try, but we were very disappointed for our special dinner.
It is really a shame when a places takes its good reputation for granted. My husband and I had both been traveling separately for a couple of weeks and decided to head there for a late dinner. By that time, while the bar was crowded, the restaurant was relatively quiet thus no reason for the abysmal service we received. The waiter, Zack, didn’t show up at our table for the first 15 minutes and after ordering a bottle of wine, we didn’t see him for another 20. We asked someone to find him and then he showed up with an excuse about another table causing him issues. He took our order and we received our appetizers - uninspired, soggy Oysters Rockefeller - and 20 minutes later, he came back to the table and asked, “So, what are you thinking about for dinner?” Mind you, we had ordered already! We reminded him and he again blamed this on the “other table”. I expressed my annoyance and he started shouting at us. “Okay, let me have it! I don’t give a f——anyway! You are f——ing annoyed and I don’t care. They can f——-I g fire me.” My guess is he was high on something as his hands fluttered about and he looked a bit glazed over.. We were stunned. With no manager on site anymore, Malina at the front desk credited us for some of the food which we received courtesy of another waiter. But it doesn’t take the bitter taste out of my mouth - no pun intended. There are too many good choices around to waste your time and money at this overpriced old-fashioned, egotistical, service-lacking, mediocre dump.
Open Table readers may be tired of reading my repeated reviews of many great spots, but we're out for 300+ meals a year, and "the best places" always warrant our return. Indeed, returning to Monty's is always an honor. Fabulous food, cozy and unpretentious atmosphere, and "back in the good old days" feelings are always present. I have NO IDEA how they consistently serve such excellent fare -- to us, many times a year. "Steak" is "my thing," and I've dined at some of the best steakhouses in the world. However, I've never had better steak anywhere than I've had at Monty's, and I've never experienced a finer staff.
If you're looking for some trendy place where you can pose, Monty's isn't the place. However, if you want fabulous food well-worth the price and served with unbelievable friendliness and efficiency, then I believe that you will enjoy Monty's as much as we do -- and as often as you can afford (we go there more often than that -- because it's worth it!).
Our daughter just moved to Woodland Hills, down the street from Monty's Steakhouse. Monty's was the closest restaurant to her new house which was just what we needed. A close-by restaurant where we could take our exhausted daughter to dinner the night of her move. We thought we had died and gone straight to Heaven! We experienced the impossible at Monty's. What, you say? Ok, so what's impossible is that every single thing we put into our mouths from the moment we were seated at our lovely table to the moment we got up to leave was not just good, it was BEYOND EXTRAORDINARY. Even the best, most expensive restaurants we've dined in have at least one or two things that aren't that great even if the rest of the food and drinks were fabulous. But at Monty's we literally couldn't find one thing, NOT ONE THING, that was just "so-so," from the best-ever warm, beautiful bread brought to the table with a special tomato-y dip and room temp butter in a little dish (not frozen pats on a plate) to the ENORMOUS-BEYOND-BELIEF lobster tails (trust me you've never seen or tasted lobster tails like this,) to the smallest, tenderest, amazingest, yummiest lamb chops, to the side dishes that are INSANELY DIVINE, to the absolutely delicious desserts (order one with 6 spoons) topped off by (if you still have room) after dinner drinks. It's pricey but worth it. How many times have we been to pricey, fancy shmancy restaurants that were way over-the-top expensive for what we got? Too numerous to mention. But pricey is a lot easier to swallow when what you get is exactly what you paid for and then some. I guess you could say, I can't say enough about Monty's Steakhouse and NO, I wasn't paid or cajoled or had my life threatened to post this review. I'm posting it because I want to share with the world this incredible find in Woodland Hills. Wonderful things we find these days that are REAL should be shared because we are all drowning in too many not-so-wonderful FAKE things every single day.
We love Monty’s but this meal wasn’t up to par. I’m not going to complain about the service-just the end results. Wedge salad drenched in blue cheese dressing (did the recipe for the dressing change? Wasn’t delicious as it is usually), requests were not ignored they were forgotten such as: my medium rare steak was medium, the well done chateaubriand (Horrifying...i know) came in as beautifully medium rare
It was a bad night at Monty’s and pricey. I should have sent the salads back but i didn’t, should have sent my steak back but i didn’t and usually i would, the chateaubriand was sent back to be be burnt so there was one happy ending. I don’t know why i didn’t totally unlike me. I can’t say i won’t go back but if i do i hope things are running properly once more.
Month's is always a treat and have been coming here (or other locations) since I was young.
Unfortunately, when i asked for a quiet table, it could not be had. We probably got the noisiest table right next to the bar.
While the food made up for it, I will be much more insistent when requesting a quiet table.
This was my first time eating at Monty’s Steakhouse and was excited after reading reviews about eating at a locally-run icon. I must say the experience was good, but certainly not outstanding by any means. First of all, one member in our party did not receive his salad with the others, and then it was embarrassingly brought out with the entree. Second, the filet mignon was cooked to the right temperature but was not of the highest quality and lacked some flavor. I have had better at pretty much all the other high-end restaurants at the same price point. The mashed potatoes were good but once again just bland. Some other members regretfully ordered the Thanksgiving Turkey dinner and all commented how everything tasted bland like you would get on a tray at a hospital cafeteria. Our server was nice and service quick overall, but I would certainly not recommend or return here with so many better steakhouses around at a similar price point.
Went with my boyfriend for Thanksgiving. I had the prime rib, he the New York. Both were cooked correct @ medium, but the quality of the meat was not as good as I thought it should be for a 60 dollar plate. The pumpkin pie was the best part and I think that was from Costco. Our waiter and bus boy were awesome! Will not ever be going back
An old favorite with terrific menu and food and outstanding service, but prices keep going up and up. Thankfully, quality stays high so you end up getting what you pay for. But, will have to visit fewer times to make up for the new high prices. Be aware, very loud in the bar area. But, not a problem for many who do not mind the loudness.
I’m a huge fan of Red blends and unfortunately they only sell it by the bottle. Our server went above and beyond to ask if an exception could be done to provide a glass. The manager came to our table and brought two types they had, she had me try the one I would prefer. No questions asked, poured what I had chosen and made my evening along with my Filet Mignon!
Unpleasant because of the noise level. Even though I requested a quiet area, We were placed right next to the bar By mistake on my part I forgot to mention one of us was in a wheelchair. I arrived with another friend earlier so just request a quiet area.. The service was ok, food we enjoyed Would come back , hoping i we could get a quieter area.
We've been to Monty's in Woodland Hills a number of times for dinner. This was my first experience for lunch.
I found the service to be very good but felt the food was just fair and overpriced.
I ordered a French Dip sandwich and I requested fruit instead of coleslaw, potato salad or fries.
I was surprised to receive cantaloup and honeydew. This was unimaginative and surprising for the price. Most other lunch places would have served some mixed fruit including berries, grapes, melon, etc. I think even though this is a steak house, the menu could be more creative.
The sandwich was just fair.
