Always great food!
The steak been amazing also the Chilean sea bass , breads with butter been great however is took a while till the food served
Excellent service and food. The perfect place for a business lunch. Highly recommend.
We arrived 5 minutes prior to our 7:30pm dinner reservation on Saturday, 1/4/20. I confirmed a booth earlier in the day. When we arrived they asked us to wait a few minutes as they didn't have a booth or table available. We were offered a table in the bar but it was too loud. We were finally seated about 1/2 an hour later. We had not been to your restaurant in over 10 years and the food was a huge disappointment! The steak was mediocre, the chicken was dry and aweful, but the Chicken Parmigiana was good and the sides were fine.
An old school local steakhouse that just never disappoints. The staff here are all great, Amanda, Sharon and recently Venessa are our favorite servers. The bus staff is amazing. They all work together to ensure every table is attended to and treated well. Never a complaint on service, ever! The steaks are prime quality beef, always cooked to perfection. The sides are delicious, plus this steakhouse has an excellent variety. If steak isn't your thing, the fried chicken is always done right. There are fish options but we've never tried, its a steakhouse for us. Of our favorites are these starters: The Society Blue Salad (which is not on the menu anymore but we hope returns), the fresh oysters, the calamari, and the Caesar salad. For beef, we love the Chateaubriand or Porterhouse for Two, both come with perfect sides. The bartender always delivers too. If you still have room for dessert, order the Hot Fudge Sundae - half or full order. While other chain steakhouses are in the area, Monty's continues to be our favorite in this neighborhood. It is old school atmosphere and old school service, and to us, its just been a nice dining experience for years.
Great food. Terrific service! Loved the Pasadena Pepper Steak topping!
Monty's is simply a classic. First Class all the way. Between the food and the service, this is one of the best!
Great food wonderful service
We go there often but we are finding it’s different. They service is not good. They don’t listen to you and what you request.
I didn’t get what I ordered and when I told her that she argued with me. We asked to be seated in a quite area we got 10 men behind us playing a game loud. Just no care about the costumer.
Food is always good but I ate something o didn’t order.
Monty's always delivers a great steak and a great glass of wine to go with it !!
Monty’s is a family owned Restaurant, the quality of food is great and so is the service. This is a community where repeat customers for many years.
Food was excellent. Steak was cooked to perfection
Food was a little pricey, but the portions were large and were superb. Service and valet parking were professional and excellent..The room was full, the atmosphere was Lively and the noise was loud.
Excellent experience on Christmas Day. Great food, great service, everyone extremely nice in spite of the place being packed.
Excellent food, service, atmosphere! One of my favorite restaurants.
Always consistent! Love this place, food is fabulous, service is wonderful.
My brother and I had a nice Christmas eve dinner, the service was good but it was early and the place was not too crowded. Not that crazy about the a la carte style menu my brother got the petite steak and it looked silly on the large plate by it self. Why not put a shard of parsley near the steak for color, to me its all in the presentation. The dinner salad was also extra my steak was $57 dollars and it came with nothing. I ordered the $12 dollar extra dinner salad that was a boring normal pile of romaine lettuce with not even a small tomato for flare, another sill over sight. Over all we liked the place but if I was the owner I would add at least soup or salad to the pricey meals and let the customers order the other extras to bump up the bill.
Sorry to say, We did not enjoy the food. It was dry as can be and the amount of money I paid for a one piece of lemon chicken which was too dry, OMG. Not good guys. I never complain. The guy we were with, a singer in The Rolling Stones even commented on how dry his dish was. The soup was OK. Actually it was good but ya know, I’m not sure if you guys just had a bad day but heck, not good in our book. I’ve never been there before. How it gets a crowd amazes me. I will say, it was quiet and not one of those loud places that seem to be everywhere.
In ending, at this point I would not go back there, now would I recommend it. Again, maybe it was the Server doing the cooking. Yes, maybe the real cook didn’t make it in.
I was not happy with the quality or taste of the food. The lobster was mushy in some places. The ribeye was dry and had very little flavor. I was very dis appointed!
Always the best steak and colossal baked potato. Attentive service even at the busiest of times.
Took my sister to a holiday lunch that should have been a special treat as she loves the old world vibe. Started well and staff was pleasant. But they were understaffed or not otherwise organized in the kitchen enough to handle two holiday parties in addition to their smaller bookings.
We waiting a half hour for our second glass of wine and, after an additional 35 minutes, we had to cancel dessert. We were told that the kitchen prioritized main dishes for the parties over all desserts.
I enjoyed my sister’s company, but left extremely disappointed. If one pays for a first class meal, one expects first class service.
I’ll go somewhere else next year.
Thank you for reaching out. Very good observation. It turned out to be the busiest day of the year. No excuse. If you should choose to give us another opportunity call us and we will have you and you friend as our guest. Thank You, Michael Levine Generation 3 8185160425
We sat outside on the patio and it was nice and quite which was really nice because it was really buys inside.
Monty’s did not have the table in the area we requested, so they moved us to the noisy bar area, they did say a table would be ready in 20 minutes, that’s after we waited 20 minutes, then they cancelled our open table reservation—— not nice but the food and service were great.
Michael ,the owner, told us next time he would fix the situation, I hope so
We loved celebrating our holiday get together at Monty's. Good food. The waitstaff are great, attentive and knowledgeable.
Had not been there for years, but will be back.
Great food, abundant portions, excellent friendly service. Lot's of us "regulars" there all the time. A little noisy and not inexpensive but very well worth it.
Hadn’t been to Monty’s in years and was pleasantly surprised. Loved it ! We sat at table 43 and had the best server. She was so nice and friendly the food was delicious. Like our server said “ at this table we got dinner and a show “. We liked it so much we made a reservation for New Year’s Eve while we were there Looking forward to returning to Monty’s !
The food has always been great at Monty’s - - it’s such a terrific go-to when looking for a special occasion restaurant that’s not too formal or dressy. The service was off-the-charts fantastic. Our server has worked at
Monty’s for 28 years and really knows her stuff. Wonderful experience!
For many years, Monty's remains one of our favorite local steakhouses. Old NYC restaurant vibe, its a comfortable atmosphere. Polished yet unpretentious service, every staff member is hospitable, helpful, attentive and well-versed in restaurant customer service. While this restaurant has many regulars, the staff here treats every table with attention and respect and friendliness - and they just make you want to come back and see them again and again. Added to that, the food is ALWAYS prepared perfectly to order. It is a quality steakhouse, expertly run. The bar can be entertaining on the weekend with locals. For a special lunch, you can order off a lunch menu or ask for the dinner menu. As for a special dinner, we love either sharing a porterhouse or the Chateaubriand for Two. If you don't want beef, the fried chicken is excellent - crisp and moist. The wine list reasonable, corkage is too. Valet staff too, polished service. My only complaint and it is a BIG COMPLAINT, is that the Chef removed my favorite Roquefort Salad - whats up with that!!!
The Sand dabs and salmon were delicious. Service is outstanding. Birthday dessert was great. Thank you for everything.
Montys is always delicious and always fun. You get so much food and it’s good food for the money. Who needs to go anywhere else the steak is out of this world. We go there all the time but this time the service wasn’t as good as usual.
First time here and the food was very good and the service was great as well. You have to valet and they are extremely rude, probably the only issue of the night. The shrimp scampi was outstanding and so was the cheesy creamed corn. The steak was good and cooked perfectly but is charred and was dry on the outside, try a swipe of clarified butter to give it a bit of moisture. We will be back.
this is a very traditional steak house. Attentive service and excellent food.
The food's quite good (not imaginative) and the service attentive and punctual. The prices have risen to silly stratospheric levels and I think the value proposition is poor. The atmosphere is still SF Valley 1975, but, the place is still worth a visit once or twice a year.
Thank you for your comments. I agree with you about the prices. The state of california make it very difficult for the local businesses to operate. With all the ancillary cost of doing business we have made a conscious effort not to skimp on quality, portions or service. Our goal is putting out a quality consistent product for the last 80 years. We are always trying to improve. Our success is based upon our local community. Appreciate your time. Michael Levine Levine Family Since 1940
We had the full Monty Thanksgiving meal. None of us liked the stuffing. Perhaps because it was more like a fruit something. The creamed corn was great.
This was our second Thanksgiving dinner at Monty’s, and we all enjoyed the food and great service. We definitely will go there again.
It was nice
We were hoping to discover another old school steakhouse that served good food with good service without being exorbitantly over-priced. We don’t drink alcohol when eating out but were immediately served with a little bit of attitude when we declined to order cocktails. So perhaps we were out of line upon expecting to receive bread after they served butter and cocktail sauce to our table. Perhaps they only serve butter and no bread to smaller parties. But every other couple in the room had a bread basket on their table. Okay, no big deal. Ordered our food and hoped for a good holiday meal. The following service was rushed with the wait staff hovering over us every few minutes, attempting to clear our plates before we were finished. The soup was bland and the salad was not fresh. To top it off, how can a steakhouse blow it with prime rib and a “prime” rib eye steak. The rib eye steak was very fatty and ordered meduim but was served very rare while the prime rib was ordered medium-rare and was served medium up and was dry and flavorless. I am usually a very generous tipper. This was the first time in memory that I actually left a tip that was less than 10%.
Thank you for taking the time to tell us what you think. We take all responses very seriously (Good, constructive or not so good). We live on the motto we are only as good as your last experience. We would like the opportunity to get it right for you. Please text me or call and we will have you as our guest. Thank you, Levine Family
We usually love Monty’s and tried it for Thanksgiving dinner this year. It was a limited menu, as we expected, but the experience was not very festive. My prix fix Prime Rib English Cut (the smaller of the two cuts on the menu) Thanksgiving Dinner came with an assortment of Thanksgiving sides. When the plate arrived, the sides looked pretty good next to my sliced turkey, but of course I ordered the Prime Rib. The server, who had been very vocal about how put upon the staff were with the one-night menu and with the recent redecoration (to be fair I didn’t care for Monty’s facelift either - it now looks modern and soulless), had provided spotty service all night, but took over five minutes after we were served our food to return to our area. Normally the server will hover for a bit to make sure all is to the diner’s liking. The offending plate was whisked away and returned shortly, but this time the expected Prime Rib was surrounded by sides that showed every sign of being microwaved: the cranberry sauce was literally bubbling and a crust of it had formed on the plate, plus the stuffing was damp and chewy. While the meat was cooked to Monty’s usual standard, my cut was about twenty-five percent gristle and fat. My romantic partner ordered the salmon and pronounced it delicious, other than the bizarre pairing of honey-mustard sauce (on the side, thank heavens.)
After all of that we should have abandoned dessert, but I was owed a slice of pumpkin pie so my love ordered apple pie with ice cream. The desserts came in good order but were obviously pre-baked refrigerated pies; I know this because the apple pie was ice cold. Who serves cold apple pie with ice cream? I would have forgiven the entire experience but that was just wrong. We may not ever return to Monty’s.
Excellent device. Great French Onion Soup.
Wish I had time for a drink
